this is "today in the bay" streaming. >> good morning. monday. kicking things off. thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. a look at the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. happy monday. >> happy monday. it's been really nice. over the weekend we caught a break from the heat especially yesterday. now today we are seeing fog in san francisco. inland areas headed back to mid-90s. upper 90s for today. dublin a high of 90 degrees and reaching 83 in fremont. you can see how much the temperatures change moving around the bay area. san francisco in the mid-70s. upper 80s and 90s. there is some cooler air in the forecast. but, mike, a freeway is shut down? >> that's right. highway 84. not for the normal overnight

construction. that construction did not take place in niles. 84 is closed because of what i just learned from chp is a major injury crash just to the east of 680. you cannot use that cut through right now. this is by little valley road. so that is the major problem and concerned about the people involved and the folks making that commute. use the dublin interchange or the service streets. we'll track the rest of the build as folks build in. back to you. >> thank you. developing this morning, authorities plan to hold a news conference to update the search for kiely rodni. >> dives say they found her body inside her car.

investigators spent yesterday afternoon at a lake working to pull the car from the water. maryann favreau has the details. >> reporter: the 16-year-old was reported missing. >> for them to not be able to find her is pretty -- i don't know. >> reporter: volunteer divers posted on facebook they discovered the vehicle upside down in 14 feet of water and a body inside and confirmed rodni. the deputies say they're at the lake trying to determine if the vehicle pulled out is the one she drove and whether the body inside is the missing teen. fbi agents and the sheriff's deputies are also at the lake. a spokesperson for her family said they do not plan to comment

until they learn more. she was last seen at a party with more than 100 others in truckee on august 6. authorities launched a massive search combing an 80-mile radius of the a pretty big stretch to lookr. >> reporter: friday volunteer divers with adventures with purpose made the search. little other than no arrests have been made. there's a statement saying in part i am outraged and sickened over the senseless, brutal slaying of an elderly aapi woman in broad daylight this afternoon. we can and must do better. uc berkeley police are investigating two violent attacks. each happening sunday morning. one investigated as a hate crime. tom jensen reports that this is all happening as thousands of students return to campus for the fall semester. >> reporter: violent assaults. police say in one incident the victim hit with a baseball bat. in a separate assault a transgender person beaten with a shovel and kicked by at least two other people. occupiers held people's park after the university put up

fences to make room for a dormitory to house 1100 students. a spokesman said there have been several violent crimes at the park. it also happened on a very busy sunday in berkeley as parents bring the students back to campus. >> i'm concerned overall just as a parent because i want to feel safe. >> reporter: ima ban jo said she is confident they keep a close eye on things but alarmed to see the campers across the street and hear about the rash of crimes in the park. >> when i pulled up i thought i hope she will be safe. i want her to be safe. >> reporter: theteer clear of the park and said no incidents involved students or university employees. >> i wouldn't put the blame on

the park. >> reporter: this grad operated a koichen at the park since march and said the blame for crimes should blame with the uc system. >> it's a chaotic area. they toppled the trees. disturbed the community that was -- that policed itself. this is the university's fault. >> reporter: two incoming fresh men said they realize there's a need for housing but question the choice to use people's park. especially since so many people live there. >> where will they go? >> maybe if they could find somewhere else that might i don't know do their justice and help them out too. >> reporter: the university plans to create green spaces and build housing for people who lived in the park. a legal battle over that work to

good monday morning. right now as you head out in the delta starting out with a breezy one and mostly clear sky. it's 63 degrees heading out from antioch. we'll see a nice, call morning with sunshine and those temperatures warming up quickly. we'll be at 80 degrees at 8:00. a hot afternoon. we're looking over toward dublin toward the interchange. take that route as i suggested because of the crash on 84 but i believe we'll have good news with the traffic flow. watching a major injury crash. more on that coming up but first let's check in with frank.

good morning. i'm frank holland from cnbc. wall street set to open up lower today over fears of the fed to hike interest rates. the fed holds the annual sin pose yum this week with the chairman speaking on friday. the markets falling on friday. focus this week aside from the fed reports on new and pending home sales, durable goods and personal spending. a group of apple employees are pushing back for workers to return to the office next month. they argue they have shown they can work well in flexible working. there's a petition circulating. tim cook told apple employees to return to the office three days a week. i hate to be the bearer of bad

monday morning, here we are. you know what? this is the golden gate bridge. i was in the city this weekend. couldn't see it. >> i know. i was in the prosideo. the kids went back to the car. it was so windy and cold. and you know, that's the way it's been. it will be like that again today. really hard for the fog to clear from the area but it does keep the city cool and seeing the marine clouds reaching inland to san jose as we take a live look

outside. we'll see the temperatures in the low 60s. heading to upper 60s at 7:00. 74 at 11:00. it's the typical summertime weather pattern. hiking in the east bay the morning hours the most comfortable. throughout the day the temperatures heat up. 3:00, 93 degrees. it will be hot for spots like concord reaches 96 this afternoon. fairfield the hottest at 99 degrees. san jose in the low 80s. low 90s for san martin. oakland today reaching 82 degrees. 92 in navajo. san francisco will cool off tomorrow as the clouds move in, more fog and seeing that helping us out in the valleys with an ocean breeze pushing inland going into the day so we see san jose coming down a couple degrees and it is still going to

be in the 90s in the tri-valley. napa tomorrow at 84 degrees. wednesday the continued cooling trend with us. really nice to see us heading in the right direction after a hot start to the week. as we look at the overall weather pattern it is quiet. still scattered showers to the east over the south and southwest that has to deal with the monsoon moisture. here once again things settle down. hot inland for the start of the week. reaching into the mid-90s. then wednesday how much lower with mid-80s. a few degrees up for the week to the weekend. while san francisco sees mid-70s today. back to the upper 60s and low 70s for the week. mike, hopefully that road is open once again. >> it is. we are concerned about the major injuries reported for the crash

but traffic flowing eastbound. crash activity at the scene and distracts westbound commute. the freeway is open or the roadway through the area is open. it's two lanes in each direction. be careful. know that folks from the altamont are feeding over. you might be wise to take that route. might be longer but moving smoothly. in case they have to do traffic breaks there. contra costa county is looking fine on the maps there. a crash southbound highway 13 getting down through the warren freeway. another crash in san jose. 101 at 680. no slowing on the sensors. a crash in the area could mean an issue. back to you.

>> thank you so much. governor newsom has a deadline today to sign a bill into law allowing for safe injection sites. drug uses could inject under supervision. there would be pilot programs, similar programs are up and running in the other parts of the world and new york city with an unsanctioned version. the investigated unit traveled to a vancouver safe site. this is where they were able to keep people safe while using drugs. opponents say it allows the illegal activity. we spoke with the oakland mayor who hopes the governor signs the bill. >> i am hopeful he will sign it. it is consistent with his bold, moral leadership to do things

that are right even in the face of criticism and controversy and try new things. we agree that the status quo is wholly unacceptable. both with regard to the loss of life because of drug overdoses but also the impact on the neighborhoods of syringes and children walking by open air drug use. >> if approved that program would be allowed to run through the end of 2027. a trove of egyptian treasures some recently discovered are on display at san francisco's deyoung museum. the new exhibit is called ramseys the great and the gold of the pharaohs. it was the most celebrated
