fire, apple tv, and online. >> good tuesday morning. thanks for joining us. i'm kris sanchez. marcus washington is off. >> and i'm laura garcia. let's check in with mike in a bit. first we want to get a look at the tuesday forecast. >> it looks good for us, once again we're starting out with low clouds and fog. we can see it draped over the bay bridge right now. take a look at that cool view at least for the drivers. it is not an issue as you're crossing in from the east bay, headed into san francisco. as we take a look at our high temperatures for this afternoon, we're headed for 71 degrees in san francisco. we'll see some upper 70s in oakland today. 77 in hayward and 92 in livermore. some of these temperatures are a little bit cooler compared to yesterday, so we'll head for 81 in san jose, but still pretty hot in santa rosa, reaching 92. we'll continue to see these temperatures coming down over the next few days with more clouds and fog near the coast. we'll talk about that in a few

minutes. mike, a crash in the santa cruz mountains. >> the big map we normally show you something in the morning, but i'll go south, coming up from santa cruz northbound 17. we had a crash, a big rig involved, a smaller passenger vehicle, a traffic break from santa's village for those of you who remember that reference. things are pretty much cleared up, the crash just moved to the shoulder a couple minutes ago. two minutes ago, we got word all northbound lanes have been cleared at summit but there's likely some activity on the shoulder so do use caution heading north or south because that will be a distraction heading south as you pass by summit road as well. that's the only thing going on for the south county. once that does clear or despite that, we have a relatively smooth drive, highway 101 moves nicely at speed all the way to and through the south bay. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 4:32. oakland's asian community is in a familiar spot, frustrated and desperate for answers after dr. lily hsu was shot in a

robbery attempt in little saigon. >> cheryl hurd was at her memorial service. >> reporter: this is the sight site of an incredibly tragic afternoon. >> reporter: dr. lili hsu, a beloved asian community member and dentist was shot and killed. >> whoever took their life, they actually have lost their life in turn over something that's very senseless. >> reporter: oakland police releasing surveillance video of the shooting. in this video, you can see the car hsu was a passenger in pull over. you can see a white lexus pull up next to it, hsu got out. you can hear her scream and then three shots were fired in what police are calling an attempted robbery. [ screaming ] [ sound of gunfire ]

>> we believe there were witnesses to this heinous act, there are some people in the area that saw the getaway car. >> the getaway car police believe are a white lexus and a white four-door tesla with a bike rack on the back of the car. police are anxious to talk with the occupants and are stressing that they are not suspects. >> this individual may have information that might be important related to this homicide. >> reporter: chief armstrong says the car could be equipped with cameras that could help in the investigation. >> i heard a scream and then immediately three gunshots. >> reporter: brendan payne ran out when he heard gunfire. >> we did everything we could to make her as comfortable as possible, i brought a towel to put under her head but she was not in a good condition at all. >> reporter: payne was at memorial along with community and friends. dr. hsu was a dentist who was loved by many. ♪ happy birthday deer lili ♪ >> reporter: for the past five

years the community leader who just turned 60 was learning ballet. he shared had video with us. >> i can't believe it. until now, i still can't believe. i just feel still a loss. >> reporter: for some, the memorial brought up deep emotions for change in the little lie son community. >> tell the shooters, the active shooters, the people who are at risk who want to do harm because you want to come up, stop it. because you're killing not only a human life, you're killing our community. >> reporter: cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." a follow-up now, bay area safe injection site supporters are considering other alternatives after governor newsom's decision to veto a bill that would have allowed it for three california cities. the governor announced his decision last night. the bill called for a pilot program in san francisco, one in oakland and in los angeles. in his announcement newsom stated in part "i have long

supported the cutting edge of harm reduction strategies. however, i am acutely concerned about the operations of safe injection sites without strong, engaged local leadership and well-documented, vetted and thoughtful operational and sustainability plans." the parents of 16-year-old kiely rodni say her body was found inside her car submerged in a reservoir, next to the campground where she was last seen more than two weeks ago. among the questions now, why wasn't law enforcement able to find her? it was a youtube famous volunteer search group that found her within an hour. "today in the bay's" terry mcsweeney talked to the group and has more. >> reporter: the disappearance of 16-year-old kiely rodni augustth touched off a massive search. it stretched miles in all directions. her submerged suv with what's believed to be her body inside was located not far from the campground in truckee where she was last seen. the vehicle, 14 feet underwater in a reservoir law enforcement

say was searched extensively. >> how did we not find it searching? the lake was searched. we had divers. we had swimmers. i think that's part of what we have to go back to do and debrief. >> it's not a knock on law enforce. >> doug and nick are with adventures for purpose which using cutting-edge sonar technology and located kiely's vehicle in less than an hour. >> we look for cars underwater specifically every day. law enforcement may to do have this a handful of times a year and most of the time the boat ramps where they know the vehicle is and so forth. >> reporter: adventures with purpose found the vehicle at the bottom of placer creek reservoir. it took great equipment, extensive training and teamwork. >> using sonar is an art. it's not just a one-time pass and guarantee what you're seeing.

i went over it several times and i knew it looked suspicious, so at that point, i called doug over to put a second set of eyes on it. >> reporter: together they confirmed it was kiely's. kiely's family is thanking the community for the support. "while we accept this sadness cast under death's shadow, the rising sun shines light upon us, reminding us not to mourn our loss. >> at the end of the day, we focused on the positives in this. we were able to provide answers to a family who no longer has to live in a nightmare of not knowing. >> reporter: investigators have not formally confirmed if the body is kiely's or if they suspect foul play. an autopsy is scheduled. terry mcsweeney, "today in the bay." where apple is looking to manufacture its new iphone. and the new profile badge opitter is testing out in hes

bridge toll plaza, i guess this is not a surprise. light traffic right now, but we do have two crashes in the east bay you might encounter headed past the toll plaza and getting away from the bay bridge. we'll show you that coming up. first, let's check in with our friend frank. >> hey there, mike, good morning. i'm frank holland from cnbc. we'll start things off with wall street, the markets are set to open higher after stocks suffered their worst day since june yesterday. the summer rally fades and the growing concerns about the fed aggressively raising interest rates to bring down inflation, even if that results in a recession. the dow dropping 643 points while the s&p 500 fell more than 2%. the tech-heavy nasdaq fell 2.5%. those declines were led by i.t., tech and consumer discretionary stocks. apple plans to start making the iphone 14 in india, as it seeks alternatives to china. covid lockdowns across china

disrupted production. bloomberg reports apple's been working with its suppliers to ramp upn india and shorten the lag from operating. mexico and vietnam are becoming increasingly important to contract manufacturers, who supply american brands as they try and shift their production away from china. and twitter has confirmed it's testing a new profile badge for people who verified their phone number. the company tells "tech crunch" it's when people add content. twitter is in a battle with elon musk over his attempt to back out of his takeover deal of twitter, and one of the key issues is the number of bots on the platform, they're fighting about that as we speak. back over to you guys. i don't know about putting my phone number on twitter, something about that. >> you'd be really busy. you'd have no time for our report. >> oh, frank.

good morning to you. we are tracking your commute. take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. mike inouye also tracking something else somewhere else.

>> nearby we have a couple of crashes, not at the bay bridge, don't worry about that but i'll take you out there, looking over the east bay in general and mostly contra costa county in this map is fine. the early commute typically starting over in antioch but also highway 37 at the top. i want to zoom in over here. both of these crashes are getting away from the bay bridge. this is eastbound 80, commute would be westbound but eastbound 80 at san pablo the crash cleared from lanes a few minutes ago, no longer than issue as far as traffic flow goes and this one is southbound highway 13, getting away from the bay bridge on the warren freeway, past piedmont through oakland. we see sensors slowing as crews are clearing from overnight roadwork. this is not clear yet, alvarado niles for the section of 84. everything else moves smoothly including out of the altamont pass for the earlier drive. on this map, everything else is cleared. i'm tracking one crash in the santa cruz mountains. it's not a major issue but we'll

rack that over to the summit. in the tri-valley a live look in dublin where we're starting out this morning with a mostly clear sky. clouds will be moving in over the next couple of hours and unfortunately possibly more smoke. the light shades of blue there could be smoke drifting from the six rivers fire complex farther to the north and so there may be much more of a haze to the sky than we've seen recently due to the shift in the wind direction, so that's going to heat up some of our valley temperatures and inland in the north bay, reaching 92 in santa rosa. you head over to napa, looking at a high of 85 degrees and 91 in martinez, 92 in livermore. even though it's hot, this is slightly cooler compared to yesterday with fremont headed for 80 degrees and low 70s in san mateo. we'll see about the same thing tomorrow there but notice that some of our inland temperatures come down a few more degrees so in morgan hill, instead of

hitting 90, we're in the upper 80s and making some progress here and on thursday it's going to be about more of the same, so we're kind of steady in our weather pattern right now. we are going to continue to see fog near the coastline, a little bit more of an ocean breeze that's keeping those temperatures down around the bay area, and really nothing changing, even as we go into next week. so taking a look at some of our hottest spots in the inland valleys, each day we start out with some clouds and fog. we head for the mid-90s today but it will be slightly cooler as we go toward the end of the week and the weekend is looking really nice. make some plans to get outside. we'll see the high temperatures in the mid 80s, while san francisco is also going to see more fog, those temperatures stay down into the upper 60s and low 70s. for the weekend is also looks very nice and comfortable, maybe cool at times of course as we get the winds picking up. now let's turn our attention to today's climate in crisis talking about converting your home to be more energy-efficient while reducing your carbon

footprint and the recent passage of the inflation reduction act actually puts upgrading to a green home more within reach. so here's what you can do to help the environment. start with a smart thermostat and that's really going to help you keep down on that, reduce your wasted energy on heating and cooling. you can also change the l.e.d. light bulbs and upgrade to energy smart appliances, and also installing a heat pump as well as the electric water heater, a better way to cut the big carbon footprint. electric vehicles as well as home charging stations will also cut your transportation carbon emissions and also getting solar panels will help power everything to offset those electric costs. now, i know this is a long list of really expensive things, and no one is expected to do all of this at once, but what you can do is check into the new tax incentives and those rebates
