this is "today in the bay." good thursday morning. thank you for allowing us to be part of your morning. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. let's check the forecast with kari. >> starting with a few clouds and fog near the coast. our typical start to the day. this is basically yesterday's picture and the day before's picture. once again we start out in the low 60s. as we go into today, gradually the fog starts to clear out. take a look at all of our microclimates. our temperatures headed for 68 degrees in san francisco, 75 in oakland. a lot of our temperatures coming down a few degrees as we expected after such a hot start for our interior valleys. mostly upper 80s for the hottest spots in the inland areas. mike, you were looking at a crash. what's going on? >> we've got our live camera turned south from the coliseum.

northbound side reports of a crash around 66. i don't see any problem. the vehicles were reported off to the shoulder just before the show, and i don't see even that going on right now. there was a crash also in the southbound side. so both directions just south of the coliseum reporting issues. but neither side reporting any slow sensors. an easy drive as you drive through oakland. as you look through the rest of the bay, a smooth flow of traffic out of the altamont pass. california set to eliminate all sales of gas-powered cars by the year 2035. the proposed new rule will be voted on today by the california air resources board. california is the largest auto market in the country. if passed, experts say this could be a major step in addressing climate change and cutting pollution. the plan would be implemented in phases. but by 2035 all new car sales would need to be free of greenhouse gas emissions.

15 months after the vta mass shootings in san jose, there's another threat from a disgrunted employee. we're uncovering details about a bus driver arrested this summer accused of making violent threats against his co-workers. internal dock, through a public records request reveal that on june 17th multiple employees reported douglas love strom for saying, quote, if i get fired, i'm going to be shooting something up. he was arrested the same day. given a notice of proposed termination the following month and he retired this month. personnel records indicate this wasn't the first time he made these comments. in 2018 he received a warning after saying, quote, i should get a gun and shoot everybody. vta's union president says the agency's co-vied vaccine mandate pushed him to the head. >> he referred to the feeling of their head in a vice being

squeezed into doing something that they religiously, morally felt there was alternative solutions such as testing. >> vta said in a statement there's no reason for anyone to make these threats no matter what the excuse. we've reached out to love strom and his attorney. he has pleaded not guilty to the charges. his alleged threats are particularly disturbing. last year a vta employee opened fire on co-workers at the rail yard, killing nine people before taking his own life. now to a story you'll only see on nbc bay area. a road rage confrontation in the middle of a san francisco neighborhood. this happened monday niek near mclaren park. police say two victims, a man and a woman got into an altercation with the suspect. that suspect took out a gun and damaged the victim's car. the neighbors eventually came out trying to help the victims.

neighbors saying incidents like this are happening more often. >> it seems like this is started to move more into our neighborhoods. this is probably like the third or fourth piece of video content that i've had to send to the police in the last two years. >> the two victims suffered some injuries but are expected to make a full recovery. police are still looking out for the people responsible. we are three months away from election night, but there's already major problems in oakland. the city clerk's office made a mistake results in the disqualification of several mayoral candidates. this morning, some of those disqualified candidates are speaking out. "today in the bay's" audrey as sis i don't has their reaction. >> the mayoral candidates are frustrated and angry. the city clerk's office of oakland admits it's made a huge clerical mistake but says, unfortunately, there's nothing he can do about it now. oakland teacher carter is one of

the three hopefuls off the ballot because of that mistake. >> i love oakland. nothing is going to change that. it's hurt. it's hurt here. >> reporter: sheer what happens, mayoral candidates were told august 17th was the deadline to submit their paperwork and get on the ballot. it's also printed in the 2022 candidate's handbook, august 17th is the filing deadline for all offices without an incumbent running. mayor libby schaaf isn't running. candidate carter says she was caught off guard when contacted by the city clerk's office when and told her paperwork had to be filed by the end of that day, five days earlier than what the campaign team planned. they scrambled. they weren't ready yet. >> to get to the point where my signatures are insufficient because i had to only submit 52 signatures, i just feel like i

was not given an opportunity to get 100 signatures or more. >> the city clerk's office has caused a massive upheaval in fair elections and democrats in our city. >> reporter: acl attorney villanueva is also off the ballot. she's since filed an election complaint with the secretary of state's office seeking a review. the city clerk's office released a statement saying in part, quote, while we regret the confusion this has caused, the candidate filing deadline in question is prescribed by the california elections code. neither the city clerk nor any other city official has the discretion to alter or waive state elections law including authority to extend the filing deadline. derek chu is the third candidate who didn't make the ballot. a total of nine candidates have qualified to run this fall. audrey asistio, nbc bay area news. in the hot seat, twitter's former security chief set to face tough questions on capitol

the senate judiciary committee, a hearing with former security tweet from twitter. he's accused twitter of falsely claiming it had solid security plans and had plans against hackers and spam accounts. he alleges twit made user growth a priority over reduction of spam. twitter has denied all the allegations. gamestop plans to reward thousands of employees with stock and pay raises under new leadership. gamestop shifted last year to growing online sales is trying to do more to motivate and retain employees at its stores. gamestop will give raises to senior store staff. it's unclear how long employees need to work at the company to qualify for the bonuses. >> nice bonuses there. >> thanks, frank.

the bay bridge. low clouds hanging out. >> the low clouds we've seen recently. let's get a look at fremont heading toward the east bay where we're starting with temperatures in the low 60s. we'll go from about 61 degrees to 67 at 10:00 and then 70 degrees at 11:00. as we move down to the south bay, let's check out our high temperature for this afternoon. we'll reach up to 87 in east san jose as well as 87 in los gatos. for the east bay, up to 90 in concord while hayward will see a high of 78 degrees. it will be cooler in a lot of spots that have been dealing with high heat. along the coastline, we're only 61 in haim while san mateo will see a high of 75. the marina district, 58 today, but about ten degrees warmer in the mission district. as we take a look at the north bay, ukiah reaching 97 degrees with napa today up to about 80. taking a look at our ten-day

forecast, brentwood is going to be very warm today, but cooler weather is coming in just in time for the weekend. so we're looking at a high of about 86 degrees on saturday, 89 on sunday, and then early next week it does start to warm up once again. as we check out our temperatures, we're in the low 90s for our hottest spots today and then we'll see about the same tomorrow. then look at how much cooler it's going to be for the weekend. it's going to be very pleasant to make those outdoor plans. next week those temperatures once again starting to cream back up, but nothing too extreme. looking at san francisco, our temperatures continue to reach into the upper 60s. that will continue even into next week. now let's turn to our climate in crisis this morning. meteorologist vianey arana shows us one simple hack we can do to reduce harmful waste and keep it from endtion up in our waterways. >> whether you're washing those dirty dishes by hand at home or you're choosing to pop them in the dishwasher, have you ever
