i'm marcus washington. >> i'm kris sanchez. we want to get right to kari hall who has another scorching day ahead. you said yesterday was the peak. >> it's a little bit lower today, but still pretty hot, especially with it happening day after day. we're starting with our temperatures in the upper 60s. we have some low 60s in santa rosa, napa at 69 degrees. 74 in martinez. 76 in livermore. as we look at our south bay high temperatures for this afternoon, after yesterday's 106, how about 103 today? we'll see a high of 106 in morgan hill. and for the east bay, we're still seeing widespread triple digits with martinez hitting 104. oakland reaching 89 degrees. we'll see low 90s for san mateo and daly city will be in the 70s. san francisco, 73 in the outer sunset and 88 in the mission district.

north bay will reach up to 110 in ukiah today. napa reaching 108. still sizzling out there. the temperatures go up a few more degrees tomorrow. we're not done with the heat just yet. mike, you are tracking the nimitz through oakland. >> we had a pretty big accident southbound, had traffic blocking all lanes. this cleared up. everything had recovered. i saw some slowing on the sensors. everything is cleared up. the sensors at the bottom are clear. that little bit of slowing is a blip on alameda. the rest of the east bay looking great. south bay and peninsula all clear. back to you. this ongoing heat wave having major impacts on bay area cities and communities still experiencing outages. despite cal iso saying they didn't order blackouts. this is the current pg&e map.

right now you can see there's a few dots, look at east san jose, all in the dark. we want to look at stephanie and she's talking about the outages. >> it may be california's hottest and longest heat wave for this time of year. >> it's been torture. i'm almost ready to pull out the water hose. >> reporter: not even our transformers have been able to handle it leaving thousands without power for hours. >> we tried to go to a couple libraries, this library shut down. other libraries were sort of overpacked as well. >> outside, looking around, playing with my ball. >> reporter: in the east bay, power outages forced diablo county college to cancel. >> i had work to do. >> reporter: the record demand

for energy forced cal iso to go to a stage three alert. they've been monitoring the situation all while notifying another 5,000 of possible planned blackouts. governor newsom says the emergency is real and immediate. >> everybody has do their part and step up for a few more days. individuals, businesses all doing their part to reduce strain on the grid. >> reporter: with peak temperatures to extend until friday, newsom extended the state's emergency response. anything to prevent extended outages that families across the bay area may not be prepared to handle. >> we feel like it's raining on us. a heat rain. i don't know. i don't know how we'll do it. so these record breaking temperatures are also causing b.a.r.t. to halt train service between pleasant hill and concord. those stations also impacted by

vta buses in the south bay. cheryl hurd spoke with commuters who expressed their frustration over the lack of solutions these agencies provided. >> reporter: there was a lot of confusion at the pleasant hill b.a.r.t. station. >> you have to get on this, go to concord and then the train. >> reporter: at 5:30, b.a.r.t. halting train service between pleasant hill and concord because of the heat. this happened several times before. this is number three for me. i feel since it's a known problem they should have buses ready for the situation. >> reporter: that passenger mainly frustrated because of the train service disruption in june. that's when heat caused a partial derailment in a similar location forcing passengers off trains and on to buss to get to their destination. >> you work all day, tired, trying to get home. with this, it's just not fun. >> reporter: we are learning that there's still up to 20-minute delays because of warm

weather. >> i guess it frustrates the longer the commute. >> reporter: in the south bay, santa clara valley transportation authority pulling about 40 buses out of service because of mechanical issues due to extreme heat. and even further south, extreme heat may be the reason why the road buckled on southbound 101 near route 156 heading to gilroy. >> it's not definitive at this point, but we do believe it's possibly related to the higher temperatures that we're seeing. >> cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." the hot conditions are not helping crews on the ground of that massive firefight in southern california. the deadly fairview fire, which is burning near hemmet burned 4,500 acres. at least seven homes are already burned. we know thousands more are under threat at this hour.

its first seven-day losing streak since 2016. focus today, a report on the trade deficit and the fed's beige book which summarizes economic conditions around the country. juul labs will settle an investigation by several states into its e-cigarette products which have been blamed for an increase in teen vaping. the connecticut attorney general announced the deal yesterday on behalf of 33 states and puerto rico. that probe which began in 2020 focused on juul's early promotion including product parties, viral marketing and using social media influencer. juul still faces separate lawsuits from other states and individuals. the fda is considering whether to ban its products altogether. apple is holding its annual product event this afternoon. it's expected to unveil the new iphone 14. the new device may not be all that different from the iphone

it's like we're all so tired because it's so hard to sleep when it's this hot outside. we've had to deal with this draining heat. yesterday reaching the hottest temperatures we've ever measured at a lot of airports around the bay area including gilroy, livermore having the tied hottest temperature. up to 116 in some of the co-ops, napa reaching 114. san jose, 109. san francisco reaching 98 degrees. the hottest temperatures in the bay area, st. helena, downtown, up to 119. this heat is just unreal. can't even believe i'm saying this. healdsburg reaching 117 yesterday. pittsburg and pleasanton as well as saratoga, some of the other weather stations reached 116 degrees. today it's going to be slightly lower. but still definitely dangerously hot. as we reach up to 105 in east san jose.

for the east bay, a high of 104 in martinez. and 108 in pleasanton. fremont reaching 102 degrees. today, palo alto reaching 95. we are seeing some cooling near the immediate coastline. so half moon bay won't be as hot. we'll also see slightly cooler temperatures for the marina district and the mission district reaching 88. 108 in napa. 109 in clear lake. this heat dome will gradually weaken, but now let's turn our attention to the weekend. there's hurricane kay to our south. that tropical moisture will surge our way as we see the dark shades of green. we are, as of now, not sure if this could cause thunderstorms, but definitely increased humidity and also the chance of dry lightning. that's what we'll be watching for the weekend as we could see a few thunderstorms coming our way. looking at the near-term

temperatures, over 100 degrees through friday. then mid 90s, but it won't feel cooler because of the humidity. low 90s for sunday. san francisco getting a cooldown, low 80s today. that humidity for the weekend. mike, you're looking at some lights on the golden gate bridge. >> we saw that from our upper camera here. i did get the look from the toll plaza. one set of flashing lights. the cone configuration looks about the same as normal with one lane going northbound. you can see that road work mid-span. so the south end of the bridge, closest to san francisco, is where all the active work is going on. same configuration and you're at the speed limit. that's the golden gate bridge over here. the rest of the bridges are great. here the benicia, carquinez bridge. the altamont pass, only down in the 50s, upper 40s at the very worst where the two freeways
