hill, 102. instead of those very dangerous, critical levels of 110 to 115, pushing it back to 104 in pleasanton. 99 in martinez, 84 in oakland. much chilly weather on the coastline. 67 half moon bay, 67 in redwood city. san francisco downtown, 66 in the outer sunset and for the north bay, you do still get up to 107 in clearlake, but the numbers will be better for you and sonoma, 102, vallejo 88. of course, we all want that your cooling. it continues to be in the cards. this will definitely happen for a saturday and sunday from this chilly system offshore, continuing to get closer and closer. here is the fascinating thing about this, the way the system is setting up, the clockwise motion around this, counterclockwise motion, will actually pull in remnants of oud, humidity, lightning, thunderstorms, and rain moving

>> so many people say to me that, you laugh a lot. i think when people think like a conductor, i think they imagine like a person who is very serious and never lost. [ laughter ] maybe i am not a classical conductor [ laughter ] or that image of that conductor. >> reporter: besides lots of laughter, she speaks six languages. >> my first language is korean, and i speak german, spanish, and italian, and obviously english, and french. >> reporter: take us back to the very beginning, when you fell in love with music, when you realized you have this special gift. >> music has always been in my life. i started playing piano when i was little. i majored in composition at college. the conducting professor kind of observed me, how i interact

with the musicians, and she actually asked me, if i would consider studying conducting. so, that was the beginning. ♪ ♪ >> reporter: eun sun has conducted all over the world and across the nation. december 2019, the san francisco opera hired her . then, covid shut everything down. there were no performances, but eun sun says, the timeout gave her time to know her colleagues better . >> the first impression i had with my orchestra, was that they seemed really from the heart. ♪ ♪ >> so when he walked to the podium, what are you thinking? >> first of all, as a joke, [ laughter ] also, i am thinking, i should not fall from the podium. [ laughter ] before i really entered the stage, i really hope that our musicians will enjoy the performance, because

cameras inside a starbucks bathroom. >> authorities now say, he did the same thing at several other east bay businesses. that means, there could be hundreds of victims. >> at this point, if we had to put a number to it, dozens, if not 100 new additional victims. >> the das office say, they expect more victims may be involved in the case of 54-year- old stephen novelli, the walnut creek man seen here behind glass during his first court appearance in martinez, faces dozens of charges for allegedly installing hidden cameras inside of this starbucks bathroom on main street in walnut creek. the cameras were reportedly placed under a sink, pointing directly at the toilet. the investigation has now revealed evidence showing he has done the same thing at three other businesses. the da has declined to name the businesses, fighting, an ongoing investigation. but will say, they are in contra costa county, possibly in downtown walnut creek.

the camera set up is similar to the one they thought it experience >> it appears to be, in keeping with the starbucks behavior, that these were cameras secretly in bathrooms at these locations. >> what did you think when you first heard there were hidden cameras at the starbucks down the street? >> the first thought was shock. >> reporter: daniel greenberg is the manager of mainstreet kitchen, just a couple of blocks away from that our books. after hearing about the case, he says, his staff is not taking bathrooms more closely to avoid becoming a target. >> something that would help me identify if something was there, really just pay more attention to what is going on. >> reporter: the owner of tell us coffee says, they are also being vigilant to make sure their businesses don't become a target. >> he's not going to be the only one. i think this was something that we need to be on high alert with anyways.

>> reporter: he will remain in custody at the martinez detention facility. his next court hearing is september 28. in walnut creek, pete saratov, nbc bay area news. in the east bay, they are not leaving without a fight. tense moments in oakland during the first day of evictions at an infamous homeless encampment known as wood street. it goes for blocks underneath the macarthur maze and houses more than 200 people. velena jones shows of the battle that broke out today. >> reporter: heated confrontations on eviction day. they ended in two arrests, as dozens of people living in the encampment under 884 south with law enforcement there to clear them out. >> we feel this is the place to stand ground and make all the legal cases that we can. >> reporter: one of the people arrested had to be carried out by chp officers. we spoke to her last month after a federal judge ruled the unhoused had no

right to stay on the caltrans property. >> it is all organized. evict first, get services later. >> reporter: today, camp residents used shopping carts, appliances, and even vehicles in an effort to prevent caltrans from cleaning the northern end of the oakland encampment. it is the place that has been the site of hundreds of fires. the fires, residence claim, they did not start. >> we deserve a piece of it because we have shown we can create a eco-village model, tiny homes, a flood of homeless people is growing. there is no solution on their side. >> there is nowhere for them to legally go at this point. >> reporter: caltrans has moved more than 30 people today and are working with the city and county to offer services. 200 plus residents call wood street home. they are offering other space when available. >> i think that the judge accepted the word of the government entities that they would provide adequate shelving

but walk-ins are accepted if there is space. california just awarded the uc berkeley graduate school of journalism $25 million for a new fellowship program. the money will support up to 40 fellows each year for at least three years. the fellows will earn $50,000 annual salary while they work in newsrooms across the state. lawmakers say, it is a part of an effort to boost news coverage in communities that need it and combat this information. it is also aimed at increasing access to journalism careers, especially from people from historically marginalized communities. applications open next may. some restaurants maybe taking lobster off the menu. conservation groups, people watch at the monterey bay aquarium, issued a warning today. the group is putting lobsters on its red list because of risks to whales getting caught or harmed by fishing gear. these are specifically the endangered right whales living in the north atlantic ocean. you are then 440 of them are

jeff, one of the things that has been really different about this is how sustained this heat wave has been. in the years past, we have had a couple of days where it is 114, but this has been almost relentless and how long we have endured this kind of temperatures. >> it is a area of high pressure that has basically sat on top of the bay area. in case focused mix this, wringing us the all-time high coverage as ever. napa 114, san jose, 109. san francisco, wasn't good enough for a record there, but that only happened back in 2017. this is something like a lot of us have never experienced here in the bay area. >> we are turning the corner as of tomorrow. you were looking forward to saying, we may have major changes in the weather coming up the rest of this month as well, almost like whiplash. >> we will see a stark change in that pattern. as we can, rain moving into california. really the signal is showing,

by the first couple of weeks of october, we actually could get our first seasonal storm system dropping from the north. we have still got a bit of a way to get there, but definitely big changes coming in our forecast. let's get a closer look at what we have been tracking. you can see today, versus those records, we surged up yet again to 111 degrees in concord, shattering the old record of 102. livermore, 112, also record- setting. same thing with san jose getting up to 104. last time it was this hot on this day in history was back in 1904. here is a little of a silver lining in all of this. today was the last day of 110 degrees plus weather. that huge dome of heat, that will continue to drop for us. i still think at this point tomorrow, still considered a heat wave the way those numbers are stacking up for us. we will start off in those numbers in the 70s. we are down to 105 inland. you want it even chillier? it

is coming our way. saturday, inland temperature starting in the 60s. for the afternoon, back to 80s and 90s. here is the crazy thing about the weather this weekend, we will see some portion of tropical storm kay, some of these rain bands moving into california. i will have the latest on how much rain, flood watches better up, and what it all means for the bay area. details coming up in about 15 minutes. all week, the heat has led to power outages, and that has led to a lot of frustration. the mayor of the largest city says, something has got to give when it comes to pg&e. >> reporter: there has been a lot of this across the bay area this week. in fact, a pg&e worker repairing a busted line is one of many heat exhaustion reports today. >> we are really being reminded just how difficult it is to work in these conditions. we are reminding all of our coworkers to be safe out there, take rest breaks, make sure they stay cool, make sure they stay hydrated and safe.

>> reporter: the good news, kaiser permanente in san jose says, it has not seen a jump in heat related emergency visits, but they still asked residents to take precautions. some of its patients say, they are fed up with the heat and all the flex alerts. >> oh my gosh, the heat is so bad. i lived in phoenix for 10 years, i did not think i would have to experience this again, just awful. >> i am so done. [ laughter ] and i run hot, so it just makes it even worse. >> reporter: the mayor of san jose says, he is done too. mayor san mcardle issued a news release, blasting pg&e or what he says are infrastructure failures that left nearly 100,000 san jose residents in the dark this week including three san jose hospitals. the mayor says, if pg&e does not present a plan to immediately repair and replace its infrastructure, the city will seek an injunction to force it to do so. >> we are having really good conversations with the mayor, i value and respect him, i appreciate he is advocating for

for a special service in the queen's honor. her death marking the beginning of a lengthy and meticulously planned period of mourning. one of the many tributes to the queen. earlier today, at grace cathedral, the bills told. [ bell ringing ] the bells rang out 96 times, one for each year of her life. that is civic center at city hall, flags were lowered at half staff. the queen last visited san francisco, here is the video, back in 1983, dining with president reagan. the first lady nancy reagan there as well. today, we chatted with many local dignitaries who were a part of that formal and famous visit. >> i would say that she is probably the royalty that will best be remembered in every way. >> it was absolutely a momentous time for our city, but we are used to it. mayor feinstein did an excellent job in hosting her. >> she was very pleasant, very matter of fact. did not seem to

take herself very seriously. i think she took her job very seriously. >> nice to see the former governor and our former mayors. one thing we heard over and over from them today, the queen left a remarkable impression on everyone who met her. nbc bay area continues our coverage from grace church in san francisco. >> reporter: this is an episcopal church, and a member of the worldwide church of the lynn community. earlier today, it was a place of togetherness, as so many came to find warmth and comfort in each other. the thursday service had already been planned at san francisco's grace cathedral church before news that queen elizabeth passed away reached u.s. chores. for some worshipers, at least one thanking her majesty in a remembrance. today's service was different. >> many people had their own

emotions about the death of the english monarch, queen elizabeth ii. >> reporter: bishop mark andrus visited the uk recently for a gathering of bishops. he says, the queen was too frail to join them, but sent the group a letter, reaffirming her belief in their work, especially when it comes to climate change, in turn, reaffirming her own strong, christian beliefs. bishop anderson says, in 2008, he was fortunate enough to meet the queen. >> every 10 feet or so, she and the prince would speak to a bishop and spouse. she came over to our side. she was warm, she was regal, but she was also, i felt, very human, a real, warm presence. >> reporter: that remembrance book we showed you, that will be here for 10 days at grace

cathedral church here, until the queen's funeral, then the church plans to send it to the royal family. in san francisco, gia vang nbc bay area news. >> most brits, in fact, most of us have never lived in a world without queen elizabeth. there will be mourning for many days to come. here's what happens next, the plans for the aftermath of her death have been in place since the 1960s. if she had died in london, the process called operation london bridge would be in control. because she died in scotland, her body will be transferred to holly road palace in edinburg. she will be taken to london five days after her death. the funeral is expected to happen 10 days after her death, 10 days from now, following a national period of mourning. the queen will most likely be laid to rest in a private burial at st. george's chapel next to her father, sister, and husband on the grounds of windsor castle. immediately after the queen's death, her oldest child, charles, automatically became king, while his wife camilla became queen consort. charles will officially become

king the day after the queen dies, tomorrow. however, his coronation ceremony isn't expected to happen for at least a few months after the queen's passing. >> exactly, that coronation or charles probably won't take place for a few months. the bay area had its own connection to queen elizabeth, it turns out. the monarch visited and francisco in 1983. she went on a world tour, and then by mayor feinstein, who you just heard, and the queen had dinner with then-president ronald reagan and first lady nancy reagan. she even made the president left with a joke about san francisco's weather. >> i knew before we came we have exported many of our traditions to the united states, but i had not realized before that weather was one of them.
