fire, apple tv and online. >> i'm liking that. and it's a monday morning. good morning to you all. thanks for allowing us to be a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we'll check in with mike in just a little bit. let's talk about the lower temperatures. >> why do you look like that? >> finally i have some great news. it's like all last week i had to be the bearer of bad news around here. today is looking so much better as we see the fog return to san francisco. so we are going to see this keeping those coastal temperatures cooler and even helping us out for the inland areas. as you are heading out in brentwood this morning, low 70s right now. we'll cool down a few more degrees before sunrise. and then we'll see a mix of sun and clouds throughout the morning as we head for the mid-80s there. in fairfield, that's the warm spot. 88 degrees. you compare that to the 66 for a high at half moon bay. and san jose reaching 77 degrees. that's going to be so nice.

i know it's still muggy out there now. gradually the humidity will be dropping. we'll talk more about what's ahead for the week coming up. mike, you're tracking a crash. kari, overall we have green sensors at almost 4:32. near the castro valley y out of san leandro, 580 just off 238, a crash reported there. we'll track it. it could be an issue if it doesn't clear. over here, 580. eastbound over to tracy an easy flow. westbound out of the altamont pass. back to you. developing right now the search is on for at least two people involved in a burglary turned shoot-out that led to a high-speed chase. >> this happened yesterday morning at a warehouse where marijuana is grown not far from the oakland airport. >> reporter: police have been on the scene here for more than 16

hours combing through the evidence trying to determine exactly how many people were involved. they say this was a planned heist and there were at least four suspects involved. san leandro pd towed an suv from the crime scene, windshield riddled with bullet holes. 20 to 40 shots, police say, were fired in this shoot-out between suspects who tried to hold up a marijuana grow operation inside this warehouse on adams avenue and a security guard just blocks from the oakland international airport. >> we don't know if he fired a gun or not. >> reporter: police do know a security guard fired shots and hit at least one suspect who is also in critical condition. the shoot-out happened outside the warehouse. the guard was also shot but is expected to be okay. three more suspects raced away from the scene in a rented u-haul truck with a number of manicured adultuana plants inside. >> the suspects went there with well-planned plan. unfortunately, they were met with at least one person on the

property. >> reporter: they were also met by police who chased the u-haul into oakland to this intersection at mlk and 31st where they caught one of the men in a footrace and arrested him. two others made it to a getaway vehicle, a silver jeep, and were able to get away. detectives are looking into whether the cannabis grow itself was legal. >> i can tell you i have not come across a legal marijuana grow in the city of san leandro since i started. >> reporter: current zoning laws state the commercial marijuana grows are illegal within the city limits. lieutenant barajas says he wants to make sure there are no special exemptions for this property or a medical marijuana grow. thom jensen "today in the bay." 4:34. reflecting and adjusting to an absence of queen elizabeth ii. over the week crowds lined the streets of edinburgh, scotland, as the somber trip arrived at

the cathedral. the new prince and princess of wales were joined by the duke and duchess of sussex to greet well-wishers and view the people with flowers they left behind. the contribute to the queen. nbc's keir simmons reports from london on the first public appearance for the group in years. >> reporter: good morning. this week pageantry and the public will give queen elizabeth a good-bye fit for a monarch. her body in edinburgh will be brought here to buckingham palace and on to lie in state where thousands are expected to line up for one last chance to say good-bye. but it is this last weekend's events that have many people stunned. william and harry, kate and meghan, appearing in front of the public and one member of the public this morning sharing a conversation with kate where she told them little louie, just 4 years old, told her, don't worry, mommy, the queen is now

with great-grandpa. i'll have all the latest coming up on "today." coming up for you on "today" savannah guthrie live in london with more coverage honoring the queen. that starts for you at 7:00 right after us here on "today in the bay." new details on a tragic story out of the east bay. a second suspect in the murder of sophia mason. the state attorney general shared more details about the arrest of the suspect and how he was able to stay on the run for so many months as "today in the bay" reports, they are taking action after alameda county after they say caseworkers failed to help sophia. >> reporter: this collection of videos and pictures of sophia mason through the years was shared by her family, the reminders of a child in happy moments. >> what's your name? >> sophia. >> reporter: dante jackson is under april rest facing child abuse and murder charges. at a news conference investigators shared details of a gruesome scene when they found

her at a home in merced in march. she had been dead for months. >> the coroner determined the death was a homicide and noted that sophia's body was malnourished. in my 20 years of law enforcement this case is the most disturbing and horrific i've seen. >> she was so decomposed at the time that they found her even after the coroner did their exams and forensics pathology all that we received back were some bones. >> reporter: sophia's cousin, melissa harris, says jackson's arrest gives the family some closure, but they still want answers about how 8-year-old sophia died, information they believe only jackson can provide. why the child was allowed to remain with her mother. she and her boyfriend, jackson, are both facing murder charges. johnson was charged in march and remains in custody. the family of sophia mason has started legal proceedings

against the county of alameda because they say county caseworkers failed to respond to concerns from family members, teachers, hospital staff and even the child herself. the family attorney says they're combing through 450 documents they just received from alameda county. so far attorney carly sanchez tells me by phone she's discovered eight separate referrals over sophia's lifetime of possible abuse. sanchez says only three were ever investigated. harris says her family was distraught when they reported signs of abuse but didn't seem to get an adequate response from caseworkers. >> what they said to us and to our family there was no -- it was unfounded. all of the complaints, even sophia's complaints, were unfounded. and now that she's dead, i hope they can see that every single complaint was founded. >> reporter: we reached out to the alameda county council and administrator about the family's legal claim which was filed thursday and nbc bay area news has repeatedly sought comment from children and family

good monday morning. the time is 4:41 as we get a look at san jose and our temperatures right now upper 60s, a light wind, and we're seeing some clouds overhead as we go into today, it's going to be much more comfortable. although we'll have a humid start, the afternoon is looking really nice. we'll get a look at all of our microclimates in the forecast coming up. and looking at the san mateo bridge, light traffic flow, easy drive across. taillights heading to the 101 and then 280. 92 and 280. i'm hearing about a new crash. a few details. we'll check out the sensors. for now check out the markets and the business. good morning i'm silvana henao. a three-week losing streak broken. the nasdaq leading the gains up more than 4%. now inflation is a big focus this week with reports on

consumer and producer prices tuesday and wednesday. these are the last pieces of inflation data before the federal reserve meets next week. the fed is expected to hike interest rates by another three-quarters of a percent. also this week we'll get reports on jobless claims, import prices, industrial production and consumer sentiment. apple is rolling out a new update today to remind you to take your pills. the medication tool in the health app is part of the ios software. the app lets you create a list of your medications and supplements by scanning them with the iphone's camera or typing the name in a search bar. you can schedule notifications to show up on your iphone or apple watch, the push into managing personal health following early features such as notifications for an irregular heart beat. disney fans have a lot to look forward to at the theme parks over the next few years. the company making several

happening now, the largest wildfire in california this year continues to ravage parts of placer and el dorado counties, the mosquito fire burned more than 86,000 acres since tuesday. there are signs of progress.

containment is up 10%. >> the fire still threatening more than 5,000 homes and buildings. still not clear exactly how many homes have been lost. over the weekend, cooler temperatures helped crews but they say they're still working and challenging steep terrain. >> most of the activity within the existing fire perimeter as well as with containment, there's been a lot of work taking place to strengthen existing lines and build new lines and even improve lines that have been in existence from previous fires. >> about 11,000 people remain evacuated. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the impacts here at home in the bay area. kari, how are things looking for us this morning? over the weekend it was very humid and smoky, and we're still seeing some of that smoke moving into the bay area from that fire. we can see it's going to be clearing out as we go into this afternoon. so definitely some of the best news there as we see some of the stronger onshore winds blowing it away, also providing some

higher humidity to that area around the mosquito fire and the cooler temperatures that will be moving in over the next few days. hopefully that containment continues to grow. as we wake up and head out this morning, we are seeing a lot of fog over san francisco, some low clouds. temperatures in the low 60s. we'll see those temperatures holding steady over the next few hours and a very slow warm-up today. much cooler as we are only headed for some upper 60s for a high today. in the north bay, novato as well as napa, 80 degrees. 79 in dublin. just think back to those triple digits that we had last week. this is going to be such a big relief for us. with san jose reaching 88 degrees -- or 77 degrees, we'll see some upper 80s for the south county. look at tomorrow's forecast. the cooling continues with a lot of us staying in the 70s for the interior valleys with some upper 60s near the coastline. and more of the same on

wednesday as we continue to see those temperatures dip even more, so here is what's going on with all of that humidity and the remnants of that tropical system still off baja, california, and all of the moisture for the most part just to our south. as we go through the week we'll get these breezes coming in from the north as well as the stronger onshore wind. things do change up for the weekend. we'll be watching that with gusty winds in the forecast and hotter temperatures ahead for next week. we're going to enjoy this cooldown for now with our inland temperatures in the low 80s today. mostly 70s for the middle of the week and then low 80s for the weekend. san francisco stays in the 60s. at times some clouds, fog, even mist and drizzle in the forecast. mike, you are looking at a crash in san mateo. smooth sensor drives around the bay, but over here it's 280 and 92 where the crash is reported. chp says a deer was clipped heading north. a little bit of slowing passing

by the interchange. we'll track that. it doesn't sound like any lanes are blocked but there may be activity and we'll follow any updates there. in the north bay another issue, a crash westbound 80 coming back toward 780 and maybe some debris. it may affect the on ramp from 780 or a transition there, no major issues, light traffic and no major injuries. we'll follow that as well. the rest of the bay, contra costa county, not yet started with the slowdown. today nbc news is launching an exciting new show called "nbc news daily." joining us now is aaron gilchrist. thank you for being here. we're excited for you. what can we expect from your new show? >> we're excited, too. a great day when we get launched later on today. i think you can expect a real hard news program, not one that's filled with fluff and talking heads. we have a great team of reporters, the entire group available to the nbc news group.
