bay" streaming live on roku, amazon fire tv, apple tv and online. a very good monday morning to you. i hope you had a great weekend. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. a look at that forecast for you that morning. meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect. kari? we are all so happy that it's going to be cooler out there this week as we get started. a live look in dublin. there's a steady flow of traffic. there is already a lot of people up and out the door. let me show you where we're headed for today with our south bay high temperatures reaching the low 80s for cupertino. 75 from milpitas and 86 degrees in morgan hill. for the east bay, 86 in concord and 73 in oakland. we'll see some low 70s for san mateo and half moon bay, 66 degrees. mostly 60s for san francisco but hitting 70 in the mission district. our north bay highs reach anywhere from 60 in bodega bay to 86 in clear lake and ukiah. we continue to see cooler air. i'll have more on that in the

forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you, kari. new details this morning, a second person in connection with the death of an 8-year-old girl from hayward is now behind bars. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us. the family is taking legal action against alameda county. the family of 8-year-old sophia mason, they say they have begun legal proceedings against alameda county for not listening to concerns. california attorney general rob bonta and merced police announced the arrest of donte jackson out of newark, in connection with sophia's death. his girlfriend and sophia's mother samantha johnson was already charged with her daughter's murder after the 8-year-old girl was found dead in merced in march. we learned sunday sophia had been dead for a month. she had been extremely malnourished. the police lieutenant said this case is the most disturbing and

horrific he has ever seen. the family's lawyer said there were eight referrals to child and family services about the abuse of sophia but only three of those referrals were investigated. >> they said to us and to our family there was no -- it was unfounded. all of the complaints, even sophia's complaints, were unfounded. now that she's dead, i hope they can see every single complaint was founded. >> nbc bay area reached out to the alameda county counsel and administrator about the family's legal claim which was filed last thursday and we've repeatedly sought comment from child and family services about this case or the last several months. so far we have received no response. the county has 45 days to reply to the family's legal claim before they can continue with the formal lawsuit. here in the newsroom, bob redell, nbc bay area news. >> a horrible story there. >> i know. so sad. >> thank you, bob. >> she's in a better place. happening today the man accused in the death of a peninsula mother is expected to

be arraigned. authorities say 27-year-old karina castro was murdered by her estranged boyfriend in the middle of the day outside her home last thursday. sources say he used a samurai sword to kill castro with her children nearby. they also say the suspect identified as jose solano has a history of mental illness and domestic violence. extreme flooding turning death valley national park into a maze of rivers and water falls. this is all because of a monsoon storm that hit there recently. that flooding forced the closure of roads and even partially washed away some of the roadways. monsoons are common in the fall months. park leaders there say they are warning people to stay out of the canyons during the rain or risk being swept away. overnight queen elizabeth's final journey from scotland to london got under way. >> over the week we saw crowds

lining the streets there. the scottish cap tal as people shared their grief together as the world got its first glimpse of her oak coffin. this is over scotland as king charles arrives in edinburgh and that is where tom llamas is live with our team coverage from the "today" show with that somber trip. >> reporter: great to be with you. something is happening right now i want to show you, the royal regimen going into the official residence in scotland where she is lying in rest right now. throughout this morning we've been able to look through the palace gates and see some of the rehearsals. what we are expecting is a funeral procession to leave this palace to go through the royal mile, the royal mile here where we are right now in edinburgh. it's a narrow cobblestone street. they call it the royal mile because it goes from here to the edinburgh castle and st. charles cathedral is where the queen will be where the public can see

her up close. what will be different it will be very intimate because it's so narrow. the public will almost be able to reach out and touch some of the royals. king charles will be here with the queen's other children walking behind the hearse. we're expecting a very special and powerful procession later on today from here in edinburgh. back to you. >> thank you, tom. coming up on the "today" show savannah guthrie will be live with more coverage of the morning's events honoring the queen right after "today in the bay." and back home at 5:06, a live look at san francisco. the fog, you probably can tell, meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring what we can expect. it will be cooler out there. >> it will be cooler today. over the weekend we had a lot going on around the bay area including an event that i was a part of with the green transportation and clean energy summit. i don't know if you follow me on

social media. i was posting some of those pictures. it was a great event. there are some of the pictures there. we talked with a lot of white house administrators and also people who are local officials and we just talked about climate change. you can see nancy pelosi and quite a few of the local dignitaries. that was once again one of those great events. i posted some of that on my social media. let's get to our forecast today as we start out with a few clouds over san jose, but for the most participate it still feels humid. we will gradually start to feel that humidity drop today and the weather will be cooler compared to what we've had recently with fremont in the mid-60s. we'll head for the low 70s as we head toward noon. eventually reaching about 75 degrees there. even a little bit cooler than what's normal for this time of year. so in concord a high of 86 degrees. we'll see a high of 66 in half

moon bay. we continue to cool off over the next few days. we'll talk more about that in a few minutes and, mike, hopefully the gas prices continue to go down. >> temperatures are going down. prices, i don't know, they may be trending up a little bit. i found good gas prices starting with $4.79 at world gas on story road in san jose. the top number here. better than that in union city, $4.69 on mission boulevard. this is mill valley, the best deal of the morning, $4.59 onshore line highway. that's the best price. these are specific spots. overall the cities are a few cents higher. westbound 80 just past the 780. at the interchange, perhaps one of those ramps, some debris after an earlier crash. no lanes are officially blocked. i'm watching for any potential traffic heading down to the

francisco. headlights to the silicon valley. tracking something going on in the east bay, though, coming up. good morning, futures calling for more up arrows on the market. apple's new ios rolls out today. we'll have more about that in a moment. stick around. twitter back in chancery court fight to go make elon musk and nikola truck will start his trial today accused of lying to investors about his company's technology. nikola was to build electric and hydrogen trucks and showed off videos like this one of a truck under way except insiders claim this truck was not running at all. it was rolling downhill. the company says it's working with government investigators. we expect washington to give us more specifics about what sort of technology silicon valley can export and not export into china including new rules on chip making equipment made by south

bay companies may be prohibited from sale. the government ordered nvidia to stop selling high-powered chips used for computer intensive tasks like self-driving cars. those chips can be used for ai or weapons. we'll get key inflation data tomorrow. the consumer price index, the producer price index will be the following day. i have this arrow pointed down because that is what's happening. inflation is falling month to month, year over year it's still higher. apple will roll out its ios 16 operating system to phones and ipads today. you have to have an iphone 8 or better. i've encouraged to you set your phone automatically to update software. if you haven't you'll find it under settings, then general, then software update. the feature is the ability to edit your i messages after you send them. there are other cool updates like a customizable lock screen

visa, mastercard and american express have agreed to implement that plan. they were mostly categorized as specialty retailers. the new code will designate retailers whose main business is selling firearms. it's still unclear how or even if the information will be shared with authorities. but credit card companies say they'll work to support law enforcement with those lawful purchases to protect consumers privacy. >> there's an entire new fall lineup starting this afternoon, a new timeslot for "the kelly clarkson show." a mix of celebrities and everyday people doing extraordinary things. and an original kelly-oke, a medley of songs by beastie boys, aretha franklin and taylor swift. is she is challenging a viewer to join her. >> hey, what's up, marcus?

so maybe kellyoke now and it leads to emmy awards. who knows. the future is bright. >> i claim it. >> remember your support team. >> front row seats, don't you worry. >> you have to start planning a song. >> and that forecast, too. >> good day sunshine. we're going to make sure the weather is perfect for that. we start out this morning with high humidity across the bay area. now that continues from the weekend. we are going to start to see the sky clearing out and the humidity dropping. this is a live look at dublin. i know there's a lot of people up and out the door already and more people are heading back to the office as we are once again tracking that tropical moisture. it's still well to the south of us. these are the remnants of what was hurricane kay. it's been producing some heavy rage across southern california. we're just feeling the humidity and every now and then we've had a couple of sprinkles moving through over the past couple of days. that will still be a possibility

this morning but overall once that sky clears up we are going to feel much more comfortable. today we're headed for 73 in hayward and 86 in concord. napa reaching 80 degrees and some upper 60s for san francisco. look at some it gets even cooler for spots like san jose. a high of only 71 degrees. this will feel like fall for a couple of days. really nice with temperatures in the mid-70s in the tri-valley through wednesday and upper 70s for santa rosa, san mateo 73 degrees. here is what's happening. it's going to be very mild through at least the next several days. and then as we head to the weekend a strong area of high pressure developing off the coast that will change our wind direction. we may have some offshore winds going towards the weekend and hotter temperatures for next week. take a look at santa rosa and what to expect the next ten days. we're in the low 80s today, mid-70s through the weekend, even low 70s for sunday and then next week warmer.

overall we're looking at so much better in terms of what we'll experience this week compared to last week we had all those record highs. we're going to keep the temperatures in the 60s. mike, you are checking out a crash in the east bay. >> i am. contra costa county. overall the drive looks good even though there's a crash north of the carquinez bridge. now this is the deal. out of brentwood to antioch, that's the direction for a crash. i heard about it and saw the slowing on the sensors just
