good tuesday morning to you. thanks so much for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. mike is keeping track of traffic. first, we want to talk about that fo ah. >> it's going to be so much -- i always have some good news. not always. >> this week. >> this week i have some good news. >> we'll take it. >> we are looking at temperatures, how about this in san jose, 74 degrees for a high temperature. 71 in oakland. some upper 60s continuing for san francisco, martinez reaching 74. 77 in concord. you can see how much more of a difference this is compared to what we had last week when we were talking about 110, 115, all that craziness. that's gone. we are going to continue to enjoy much more comfortable weather not only today but the

next several days. mike, it seems, hopefully, a nice, smooth start to the day. it is, kari. i was looking for flashing lights at the bay bridge. not in these lanes but the flashing lights were in the parking lot and they just cleared as well. a crash had been reported just past the toll plaza right around the metering lights. it sounds like everything got over to the shoulder just fine. there's a crew on the sand riche lower deck. no surprises there. costa county out of the north bay. a nice, smooth flow of traffic as well. the peninsula, a report of a crash still working north 101 around woodside road. chp has been there for a while. that should clear or update in the next few minutes. i'll double-check 101. 280 a little slowing on the sensors but no problems and no scheduled activity. we'll keep following those

blips. they're just floating around. some folks are taking it easy. back to you. >> thanks, mike. starting today we'll see contra costa county giving out covid booster shots at its richmond vaccination site. the white house is urging everyone to get the new injection. >> this comes as the bay area's strictest county, santa clara county, rescinding the orders that have been in place since the height of the pandemic. is it too soon to ditch the mask? >> reporter: at the emmy awards in hollywood, the stars were out and the masks were off. a sign of the times or a sign that we're getting comfortable with covid. >> we have immunizations and have relatively good health, then i think if you want to not mask, that's your choice. >> reporter: marianne graham says she gauges her surroundings

before she puts on a mask. sort of like the ratio of people going into trader joe's in concord. it was 50/50 santa clara county's health officer rescinding the few health orders that are on the books. it basically means that vaccinations and vaccination passports are no longer required for people working in high-risk settings and covid testing is no longer required at large health care systems. >> santa clara county has been one of the most conservative in the state and rightly so. they had some of the earliest steps in the pandemic. >> reporter: an ex personality says this roll back for the county makes sense. >> vaccinations are not needed for prevention anymore. we need to use a lot of tools including masking in the most high-risk environment. >> reporter: as we watch bay area counties roll back mandates masks are still required in

hospitals and other medical facilities. ucsf infectious disease expert is keeping a close watch on the uk where masking has been dropped in all health care and nursing home settings. she doesn't want to predict what will happen here. >> we will never eradicate covid because of its characteristics. what we need to do is keep our rates of severe disease low. >> reporter: rates are low because a large percentage of people are vaccinated. many doctors are recommending people should keep wearing masks when in close contact with people you don't know. cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." 4:35, a line stretching from st. giles' cathedral as thousands of mourners wait to say a personal good-bye to queen elizabeth. you see live pictures of king

charles greeting the thousands of people that have come out to say their last good-byes. this is the first time since the queen's death the public has had the opportunity to pay their respects. tonight the queen will make her final trip to london. her coffin will lie in rest at buckingham palace until tomorrow after moon when a procession including king charles and other members of the royal family will be part of that procession through central london to westminster abby. jay gray with a closer look at the services planned in the days ahead. >> reporter: slowly, silently they pass. some with a slight nod or bow. others simply pausing. all drawn here by a common bond to such an uncommon woman. >> such an affect on all our lives. >> reporter: the line stretches for two miles at times, some waiting 12 hours or more just for a few seconds to say good-bye.

>> it's calm, so moving, and the crown, the queen's crown, is sitting on the coffin. it's absolutely beautiful and it just touches your heart. >> reporter: the constant stream of mourners stops only once and then just for a few minutes as king charles, his brothers and sister, join those standing vigil over his mother's casket. the reminder queen elizabeth's reign has come to an end. >> we know it's real but when you see a coffin in there, very real. so sad. >> reporter: for many there is a mix of emotions right now, that sadness offset by immense gratitude for queen elizabeth more than 70 years of sacrifice and service. jay gray, nbc news, london. 4:37 for you this morning.

back here at home six people are safe this morning. this is after they were rescued from an apartment fire in berkeley. the fire broke out just before 5:00 last night near university avenue right near the cal campus. those crews were able to put out that fire quickly. three people were taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. the red cross is helping find shelter for 30 people who are displaced. developing now, a least 25 homes confirmed destroyed in the mosquito fire burning west of lake tahoe. the flames scorched more than 48,000 acres. crews say this week's cooler temperatures are helping with that firefight. evacuation orders are in place and others are on standby. take a look at this dash cam video showing a sheriff's deputy evacuating an elderly couple that got trapped inside the fire. thankfully they got out safely. at last check the fire is 16% contained. a peloton shake-up. ahead on "today in the bay," the

where temperatures are in the low 60s. a nice, cool start to the day. there will also be a lot of clouds for our morning but the sunshine breaks out for the afternoon and a really mild day. we're enjoying this nice cooldown. we'll talk about how this compares to normal and what's ahead coming up in a few minutes. we'll watch for some of those changes kari is talking about. so far san mateo bridge, clear view, clear drive. you can see the lights across the high rise on the peninsula side.
