mike, hopefully you have a good update about the puppy. >> it's a pup date. a little chipper with a thumbs up because we did not find any further reports about the puppy on highway 101 and walking along the shoulder near university. now no follow-up means no crash and no injured animals. a smooth drive, no injury to your commute. it's all green except for right here, a mild build there. over here the golden gate bridge -- look at that. they're leaving. don't be shy. the next few minutes might see some slowing heading north. back to you. >> thanks, mike. moving you forward this morning this is on the new solution to help more people get access to the monkeypox vaccine. a number of people who need it can't get it because they live too far away from the clinic or face language barriers. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us. bob, the federal government is launching a program in order to try to reach the people who want these vaccines.
5:03 am
>> reporter: they are. good morning to you, kris and marcus. the cdc is launching a new vaccine equity pilot program. this is to reach the people who aren't showing up or won't show up at the traditional clinics that have been set up like this one here in concord. what the cdc has done nationwide, set aside 50,000 doses for these people who face barriers to getting the shot. whether it's because they don't speak the english language, are vaccine hesitant, don't trust the government, don't have the technology to make an online appointment or will get in trouble because of their undocumented immigration status, this program is encouraging local governments and nonprofits to come up with innovative ways to reach those people. now the cdc says almost half of the doses of monkeypox vaccine administered fashionly have gone to white men while about a third have gone to black and hispanic
5:04 am
men even though black and hispanic men account for well over half the cases. that's the disparity they're trying to address there. meantime marin county is dealing with a surplus of the monkeypox vaccines broadening its vaccine eligibility criteria to make sure those high-risk people aren't being missed. some 600 residents received the shot. in spite of all of this the cdc does say the number of monkeypox cases is on the decline. you can see statewide in the state of california over 4,400 cases. this is as of september 13. and over 1,300 of which are here in the bay area. the majority of the cases in the bay area are in san francisco. reporting live here in contra costa county, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, bob. 5:04 for you this morning. four people are recovering after they were sent to the hospital when a car came plowing into a trader joe's in castro valley.

5:06 am
their respects to queen elizabeth ii this morning. a steady stream of mourners has not let up. >> the queen's eight grandchildren will stand vigil beside her coffin tomorrow and as requested by the king, prince william and harry, will be in military uniform. harry has not been seen in uniform since distancing himself from the monarch. also this morning there seem to be issues with crowds at westminster. kelly cobiella and our team are right outside and we're learning more. >> reporter: marcus and kris, good morning. we're hearing they've had to pause that line, had to ask people to stop standing in line because it's gotten too long. it stretches five miles through london. the wait as long as 14 hours to get into westminster hall to pay respects to the late queen.
5:07 am
they paused to clear some of the crowds. the queen is lying in state until monday, the day of her funeral, and more details including her son, king charles, and grandsons prince william an where the funeral will take place. they are expecting 2,000 people inside westminster abbey. we'll have that and more coming up. >> we will continue our coverage on the "today" show. the services for the queen get under way. thousands continue to line and pay their respects. we talk with wilfred frost about his father's fascinating conversation with the then 20-year-old prince charles considering his future and what his reign would look like.

5:10 am
>> make sure they're in good condition and the tire treads. it's been a while. might have some oil rising, have all that traction. the weekend is here. $4.99. that's in sunnyvale at the top of the screen. in fremont, the 76 has a little bit better pricing, $4.79 is the best price there in the east bay and the lowest on our list at the bottom here. it's at the top of the map. the arco on redwood highway $4.59. mostly green around the bay. a good drive. expected to be lighter. things will start kicking in later and then really kick in late morning about 7:30 to 10:00 we'll see a lot of traffic as we have for the last couple of weeks. observing, the nimitz moving very smoothly. we can manage but it will get more crowded. back to you. coming up on "today in the bay," the case of the billion dollar quitter.

5:15 am
give him a key password over text message. what this means for you, unclear. the hacker does not seem to have malicious intent but changing your password, checking your credit card statement from time to time certainly wouldn't hurt. these are things we should do on a regular basis, hack or not. other news, mortgage rates hit a new benchmark, now over 6%, more than double the 2021 mark of 2.8 and change. san jose's adobe working on closing the $20 billion deal to buy a software company, created by a marin county teen at the time who dropped out of college to start the deal. if the deal closes this man will be worth several billion dollars. dylan dropped out of school on the encouragement of the silicon valley contrarian and libertarian who set up a fund to help kids drop out of college
