internet. >> and growing crisis in puerto rico from hurricane fiona. the latest on the damage to one neighboring island this is "today in the bay" streaming live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv and online. a good tuesday morning to you. thanks for allowing us to be a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we'll check in with mike. a look at that tuesday morning commute but first let's start out with kari. how are we looking today? >> it looks good to start out. now this afternoon things may shake up again and here is why. we have that storm just off the coast giving us off and on rain. we do have a clear start this morning as you get ready to head out the door in san jose. temperatures in the upper 50s. it's a clear morning. we'll see increasing clouds as our temperatures warm up into the mid-70s and we may see the storms in parts of the east bay and north bay. it could be anywhere. hour by hour and our forecast

coming up in a few minutes. developing overnight a series of deadly unrelated shootings. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us with more on the investigations under way following a very violent night, kris. sadly, a number of people died in the violence in oakland and several other people are also in the hospital but some oakland police officers also had a very close call during a homicide investigation. take a look at this wild scene on telegraph avenue, someone rammed an oakland police cruiser there. officers were investigating one of the deadly shootings that happened last night. two officers were injured. we don't know their conditions this morning yet but we are asking. over on international boulevard between 26 and 27 avenues officers found a woman with a gunshot wound to her chest. she was transported to the hospital. opd has not updated her condition yet. officers do confirm there was a

triple shooting on telegraph and 31st avenue and that it was deadly. two people were shot and killed near the medical center and the islamic center of oakland. a third person also shot survived. investigators are looking for a getaway car in that investigation. a white prius. about a half hour later another person was shot dead at east 20th street and 23rd avenue near roosevelt elementary school. that was about 8:30 last night. now across the bay in san francisco officers are also looking for a gunman after two women were shot in the mission district. one of them has life threatening injuries. this happened before dark even. it was only 6:30 in the evening. it is unclear whether those women were targeted specifically. this is impacting so many different communities. we want to help you track the investigation. you can find updates as we get them at nbcbayarea.com. now very disturbing to wake up to this rash of violence but we'll put it in perspective for

you. we checked for oakland shootings, homicides are down this time over last year. also less than the three-year average in san francisco. the number is lower as well. things could change but to put it in perspective for you. >> 6:03. we do have a follow yum for you. the widow of the man shot and killed in an apparent road rage incident is speaking out about the seconds before the shots were fired. that shooting happened on sunday afternoon in san leandro. this is near interstate 880. now police say that a 30-year-old rienhart asuncion got into an altercation with a driver in another car, got out of his truck to confront him. that's when he was killed. his wife, she lives in the philippines, she says she was on a video call with her husband when he told her the driver cut him off.

she says she could hear the arguing of the two and begged him not to get out of the truck. >> after that it happened so fast. after he leave the car i just hear the multiple times of gunshots. i know it was him. i know it was him. i believe, i have hope in my heart that he can make it. >> the shooter in this incident is still on the loose. so far police are not saying if they have a description of the shooter's vehicle. we do have a warning for you from hayward police about opioids hitting the street resembling vitamins and candy. officers seized multicolored pills some shaped as skeletons even hello kitty. they believe the pills are part of a new rainbow fentanyl trend

and say these finds have increased over the past month. they advise parents to be straightforward with the dangers of these pills. fentanyl deaths have increased nearly five fold in california the past two years. happening today juvenile justice reform advocates will gather outside the offices of brooke jenkins. she recently announced a new d.a.'s office policy change to more actively charge minors as adults whenever the option arises. this is all part of a push to get tough on crime. jenkins says the new policy will apply only to the most heinous of crimes. the newly created juvenile review team will make charging recommendations. children as young as 16 may be tried as adults. they are organizing a rally at 10:00 this morning. also today oakland councilmembers will introduce a resolution showing support for proposition 1, the ballot measure aimed to amend the state constitution and ensure

reproductive rights. voters will decide that measure this fall. turks and caicos catching the wrath of hurricane fiona which is now a category 3 storm. some video just in to our newsroom from grand turk. the wind blowing so strong. this comes as puerto rico still reeling and new confirmation at least one death there. fiona knocked out power for much of the territory unleashing landslides, flooding. president biden already declaring a state of emergency and puerto rico's governor says the damage catastrophic. nbc's gabe gutierrez is tracking what some people there are waking up to this morning and the challenges still lingering from hurricane maria. >> reporter: good morning, this is what neighborhoods are waking up to, downed trees, downed power lines, no drinking water. we actually even saw some rain here. thankfully the floodwaters have mostly receded in than 1,000 pe

across the island had to beio officially made landfall on sunday. the storm has now strengthened to a category 3. a major hurricane that is now bearing down on turks and caicos and here in puerto rico the governor says that most of the island is still without power or drinking water. he expects, though, that will be restored in days not months like it took after hurricane maria which, by the way, was exactly five years ago today. five years that hurricane maria slammed into this island. there has been widespread frustration among many residents the power grid was not more effectively rebuilt following hurricane maria. again, that big question will be how long will it take for power to be restored? luma energy that handles power distribution here in puerto rico says it has been restoring

north and eventually starting to curve off to the east. going into the next couple of days we expect this to strengthen. it will be over the open atlantic making it close to bermuda as the category 4 hurricane. we will continue to see more impacts from this storm. as we bring you back home here is a look at our high temperatures for today reaching 71 in oakland. 65 in half moon bay. we'll go hour by hour with that. mike gives us a look at where we can find lower gas prices now. trying, kari. still under $5 for all these prices and santa clara and $4.89 at the safeway. just under the wire it's $4.99.

how it impacts the north. good morning. very happy tuesday to you. stocks got a bit of a respite monday. bond yields are way up and that will hurt mortgage rates. they will go higher. shares of moderna fell more than 7%. we'll talk more about the president's claim when we talk politics. facebook stock is up for once. mark zuckerberg personally lost $71 billion this year. iphone 14 making a buzz. like an actual buzz. when they use the camera with third-party apps like snapchat the camera buzzes. take a listen to this twitter post. >> what? >> apple says it's aware of the problem. they'll have a software fix next

week. another strange story the chief operating officer of beyond meats, the plant-based meat company, accused of biting someone on the tip of the nose. doug ramsey was arrested after a college football game in arkansas. cnbc says someone bumped rasey ramsey's car tire, he punched through the driver's car window and during a confrontation bit the man's tip of the nose off. ramsey charged with terroristic threats and third-degree battery. the company has not commented on the news. the federal open markets committee meets today. an interest rate decision should come tomorrow. some worry higher rates could drag us into recession. i spoke with someone who started her career before the last recession. emily melton says her first few weeks on the job in 2009 were scary with the global financial crisis going from flush with cash to empty offices.
