yesterday focussing on gun violence prevention. >> this new office will examine a broad range of factors to prevent gun violence from firearm availability to effective resources for crisis prevention. >> this is where the state department has to step up, and at the end of the day having the law enforcement from the bart, the housing authority, the sheriff, the -- you name it, they are here on our streets and we need to work together. >> over a 24-hour period ending tuesday afternoon, four people died from shootings in oakland. surveillance video shows violence outside one market on telegraph and 31st on monday, and in that shooting two men died. and then jury service continues today. the civil grand jury accused her of concealing concealed weapon

permits. she is not seeking re-election this fall. and then the fed raised interest rates, and that with soaring inflation is a double whammy, and some relief could be coming for california taxpayers. it's good news. some people qualify, but will it be enough for them to really make it in the bay? >> reporter: that's what they are say t fed raising interest rates for the third time in a row, three quarters of a percentage point, and some are seeking long-term relief, hopefully, and the fed raises the interest rate another .75%,

and car loans and mortgage rates and student loans will be affected again. the average rate for a 30-year loan is 6.25%, and that's the highest level since october of 2008. you may ask why the raised the rates again? the fed wants to make it more expensive to borrow in an effort to lower demand. >> we are putting meaningful downward pressure on inflation, and that's what we are doing. >> reporter: for californians, some relief is on the way. we know you can expect inflation relief checks starting october 7th. that's the first day californians will receive the middle class tax refund. the big question, how do you get your hands on this money? well, you need to have filed a 2020 tax return by october of last year. you cannot be somebody's dependent. you need to to meet the

income requirements. for that, pull out your tax returns and check these lines that tell you your adjusted gross income, and fur married and filed jointly and made less than $150,000 and have one dependent, you qualify for $1,050. your refund could be deposited into your bank account between october 7th and november 14th, and if not you will receive it in a debit card between october 25th and january 15th. if you want to know how much you are getting, visit the state franchise board website. there's a tool where you can input your information and find out exactly what you qualify for. people will be checking their

bank accounts and mail boxes soon for that relief, laura. >> and hopefully they put the money back into the economy and boost it as well. happening today, state, fish and wildlife leaders are trying to get to the bottom of an exploding problem, wild pigs. they are creating headaches across counties here, including santa clara. state leaders are holding a virtual meeting today to discuss the problem. lawmakers, they passed a state bill this summer loosening the restrictions on hunting wild pigs, which supporters say would limit pig population. governor newsom has not yet signed it. hurricane fiona is barrelling boards bermuda where a direct hit appears unlikely. here you see the trajectory of
