breaking news in the south bay where firefighters are at the scene of an early morning fire. it's happening at a truck yard in san jose. look how large it is. it started about 1:00 a.m. on archer street. firefighters say several trucks, some empty buildings have burned as well. it's not clear how it started. one person is being treated for possible burn injuries as we continue to get updates this morning we'll bring you the very latest on air and online. >> the temperatures we've been dealing with, vianey, have been making it easy for firefighters compared to the wildfires. >> that low-pressure system that brought rain the past couple of days in through last weekend also helped ease some of the concerns because it brought a lot of moisture. now heading into the weekend the concern will be just that, the lack of moisture and just how dry we're going to be. it is really clear. we're not seeing it inland.

59 degrees. by 11:00, 12:00 we'll be in the 70s. we're talking 80s and, yes, even 90s not just for today but through the interior for the week. i'll guide you through all of that in a few minutes. thank you, vianey. 5:01 right now. young people across the country plan to send a message about our climate in crisis. they are staging what they are calling a global climate strike. >> now those students plan to gather in different cities across the u.s. including right here in the bay area. "today in the bay's" damian trujillo live outside of palo alto city hall. what can we expect there today? >> reporter: well, that global climate strike begins at noon in palo alto. organizers say that the climate crisis is affecting the mental health of youth and so they're banding together and doing something about it. in fact yesterday some teens from the bay area joined lawmakers in washington, d.c., to talk about the mental impact on youth when it comes to climate disasters.

they highlighted house resolution 975 which links a teen's mental health to the climate crisis. research on climate anxiety in teens and calls to support teens after climate related disasters like fires and floods so youth organizers declared today a day of protest, a global strike to fight against climate change and mental health. for two teens from sonoma county who were in d.c. with congressional leaders, it's annual fires that have them on edge. >> just because the fires our community has been experiencing since 2017 has really impacted the mental health of our peers and ourselves as well. we really in our community when someone smells smoke it is terrifying for us to think about where the fire is. >> reporter: and similar protests will be held in oakland, berkeley and mill valley today. those protests start at different hours throughout the day including some in the early

evening hours and, again, the one here outside city hall plaza in palo alto begins at noon. we're live in palo alto. i'm damian trujillo, "today in the bay." >> a lot of activity today. thank you, damian. it is 5:03 and there is now a new six figure reward offered to help solve a brutal san francisco shooting. lindsay mccollum and eddie tate were shot and killed on december 16, 2016. this happened in the mission district where the two were living on the streets. this week police upped that reward to $100,000 to help catch the killer. they're also recirculating the sketch of the gunman. take a look at your screen. that new reward is giving hope to one friend who believes it may make a difference in solving the crime. >> what's going on? what's prompting this reward all of a sudden? we want to stop hurting, so we want to get justice for what was done to her because that was inhumane. >> now anyone with potential information should contact san francisco police.
