a lot to get to. first the details on the school shooting in oakland. we are learning from police it was gang related. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live this morning. you and our investigative unit have been digging into facts on this. what have we learned? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. police sources tell our investigative unit the shooters had targeted students who had recently enrolled and one of the shooters attended the previous school. two victims were students. there's a school counselor, a security guard and then two other school employees including a carpenter who was installing a trophy case in the lobby of one of the schools when the shooting happened wednesday afternoon. three people are still in the hospital, two of whom are in critical condition. the king estates complex, which houses three schools in east

oakland, remains cloepsed today and monday. two armed men carried out the attack and had at least one accomplice, possibly two. the shooters had an intended target. while it's unclear exactly who police are looking at all six closely. last night a couple hundred people attended a mayoral forum at castlemont to hear from five who want to replace libby schaaf. a middle school principal issued an emotional plea for student safety on campus. >> this is an urgent call for action. the time is now. >> i look at our public safety system, someone who has the consistency and the courage to stand up against the loud voices in the room. >> we are not giving them the tools they need to do their job properly. >> as mayor i will double the
