sources say elon musk's on again/off again plan to buy twitter is now on again. what's changed and why. and the coal miners daughter. morning the loss of loretta lynn. why the choices she made with her music made her a trail blazer. we begin with the remnants of hurricane ian. clearly not over yet. >> what's left of that enormous storm is now pouring down on the mid-atlantic and the northeast. heavy rain and wind prompting coastal flood alerts from virginia to new york. >> in florida the scale of ian's destruction coming into sharper focus today. so is the scope of the loss. officials in florida and north carolina confirming at least 106 people have died from the storm. roughly 4% of florida utility customers are still without power and florida's governor now says more than 1,900 rescue have been conducted across the state. >> liz mclaughlin and shaquille

brewster on florida's gulf coast today. shaq, as homeowners assess some of the damage here, business owners are facing a pretty tough reality there. talk us to about how this hurricane is affecting their livelihoods. >> reporter: you talk about the homeowners. look at this house here and what they pulled out. mattresses, dressers, clothing all out on the incumbent. this is a total loss. you hear it from homeowners and business owners. we were on fort meyers beach yesterday where you have large boats that instead of being in the water or at the marina they have landed on top of suvs off to the side of the road. i spoke to the captain of one of those ats, a shipping charter company. it's a total loss for him. listen what he said about the future of his business. >> devastating. you're just, like, not only that. you're looking at the boat that you have had for years over here and you don't believe it.

you've got to wake up from a bad dream. >> reporter: you get the sense from the busy perspective, he says his wife whose business was completely destroyed. people feeling like they have to start over. >> hard to believe it's been a week since ian made landfall and the search and rescue operations is still going on. are crews still finding people? >> reporter: they are. you go in fort meyers beach, that area is completely closed off to civilians. it's because fema is going through house by house, door by door cleaning up. we saw this area not at the beach, but he see a sense. community here. fema was here. you are getting people dropping off ice, dropping off things like food. this is what's happening along this entire region. they are trying to make sure everyone is safe. fema they were going through making sure structures were safe, dropping off water to people, making sure everyone was okay even if they are not in the most impacted area. >> thank you. >> let's head to fort meyers

beach. liz is there for us today. and, liz, talk us to a little bit about what you're hearing from some of survivors, the people who are having to comb through what's left of their homes. >> reporter: aaron, the initial shock of the storm is really starting to wear off and it's really starting to settle in that their lives may never be the same. can see the sailboat behind me, that's douglas mcgill, they are working on it, a veteran who lived on this sailboat. he planned to sail around the world. now homeless. he has about $100 to his name. over here we have a home and office that has been completely destroyed.
