>> reporter: sadly you are correct. yes, the bay tech charter school will resume classes today but minimum days for the rest of the week. rudsdale high will resume classes but students will be at an alternate location, somewhere off campus. you might recall we showed you this video yesterday morning. this is surveillance video that shows the moments the shooters rushed on to the king estates campus and opened fire last week. six people were shot and injured. police are asking you again to take a look at that video. sadly another person murdered in the city of observing. the 101st homicide victim this year shot and killed over a catalytic converter theft. the shooting took place early yesterday morning near everett avenue. a friend identified the vic as 60-year-old arturo coronado.

he was a father. the friends tells us coronado woke up to the sound of people messing with his car. >> he just was trying to tell the people to get away from his car and they fired shots and went through the screen door and killed him. >> reporter: yesterday the state attorney general rob bonta talked about the first-ever office of gun violence prevention that was just launched by the state. bonta says the office will, among other things, use data to target gun crime hot zones and push for the expansion of red flag laws. in an effort to crack down on the rise in crime, two oakland city councilmembers are now asking the city to expand the use of opd's license plate reader technology to help identify stolen vehicles and track down criminals. concerns have been raised, privacy concerns have been raised around this issue in the past. reporting live, bob redell,

"today in the bay." >> thanks for the very latest there, bob. 6:03 this morning and developing in the central valley a surprise twist in a desperate search for a family kidnapped at gunpoint. investigators in merced say that family, including their 8-month-old daughter and the baby's uncle, not seen in this photo, were taken against their will from the family's trucking business. deputies located a person of interest, identified as jesus salvodo. they say images show him abducteding the family. they also say he used their atm cards. authorities moved in to arrest him. he took his own life. he's in critical condition. investigators say they have no other leads in locating the family. closing arguments wrapped up yesterday in paul flores' murder trial. flores' father is also on trial accused of being an accessory. smart attended cal-poly san luis

obispo. her body has never been found. kristin smart, there's no evidence of a murder. 6:05. president biden heads to southwest florida to meet with victims of hurricane ian. >> he's expected to tour some of the devastation with local leaders including governor ron desantis. the pair have bumped heads with issues. "today in the bay's" brie jackson is live this morning. pretty much everyone saying this is a time to push those politics aside. >> reporter: good morning, marcus, laura. that's what these two are doing. they do not see eye to eye on many political issues, but president biden and governor desantis are coming together in an effort to help florida recover. desantis has praised the biden administration for declaring an

emergency even before ian made landfall. a week after hurricane ian tore through florida, floodwaters continued to rise. floridians are getting a closer look at what's left of their homes. >> this is everything we've worked our whole lives for and it's gone. in a flash. it's sad. >> reporter: president biden committing millions of dollars in aid to puerto rico after touring the destruction hurricane fiona caused. he'll be on the ground in florida today to survey hurricane ian's wrath. >> this is an american crisis. we're all in this together. >> reporter: florida's governor, ron desantis, an outspoken critic of the biden administration, says federal, state and local leaders are working together on their response but fears the efforts won't be enough. >> so that's why we want private organizations to step up and still some of the gap here.

>> reporter: search and rescue teams are still on the ground with a focus on areas hit hardest by the storm. >> reporter: residents say help has been slow to arrive leaving people to fend for themselves. >> because we are latino, black, poor people, working people, that's the way it is. >> what are we going to do for the ones who fought through the storm and are still alive? if they don't get the resources, they're going to die. >> reporter: president biden will meet with survivors of hurricane ian. his message to those impacted, the federal government is ready to help. in a recent study it shows areas with large minority populations tend to receive less money from fema compared to mostly white communities. fee in says it takes a number of factors into consideration when delivering aid that includes property values that are less or
