good morning i'm phillip mena. >> i'm frances rivera. we begin with breaking news out of ukraine, where the mayor of kyiv says the capital city is under attack by russia air raid sirens went off this morning just before several explosions rocked the city missiles are striking busy sections of the city, and residents have been instructed to seek shelter. people are being told to refrain from traveling to the city and central streets have been blocked by law enforcement the governor of the lviv district of northwestern ukraine is warning residents to take cover after ukrainian media reported multiple explosions in the area ukraine is embracing for more retaliation following an explosion on a key crimea bridge saturday that president putin has blamed the nation for, calling it terrorism on sunday, a series of russian missile strikes in residential areas of ukraine's southeastern city of zaporizhzhia killed at least 13 and wounded 89 others our keir simmons starts us off >> reporter: it's on russian television president putin branding this

blast that hit his prized bridge to crimea a terror attack aimed at the destruction of a critically important civilian infrastructure brief by the lead investigator, putin asks are you sure the perpetrators are the special services of ukraine? the investigator agrees, helped by citizens of russia and foreign countries, he says ukraine not publicly admitting responsibility and in his video address, president zelenskyy saying cryptically "it was cloudy in crimea." russian television offering continuing coverage, suggesting a truck bomb, showing parts of the road collapsed, and traffic moving, but slowly the bridge consists of a highway and a parallel railway the blast happened halfway across when a car and a truck loaded with fertilizer ordered on the internet according to russian reports passed a train full of fuel tanks

the explosion seconds later. but some western explosives experts suggest it came from underneath the bridge and that it looks like a highly sophisticated attack russian hard liners loyal to president putin are again openly criticizing the military operation while military bloggers saying the enemy has stopped being afraid another, hammer ukraine into the 18th century fears that russia is preparing to escalate its brutality in ukraine underscored by nightly attacks on ukrainian cities. ukraine says more than a dozen killed in zaporizhzhia rescuers searchesing through the rubble of apartment blockses believing it's russia's revenge for the battlefield. and now the kremlin and governor of crimea say emotions have been triggered by the attack, saying there is a healthy desire to seek revenge >> keir, thank you a new trial gets under way

today for the man who sparked the me too movement. harvey weinstein is already behind bars after he was convicted in new york. well, the disgraced movie mogul will stand trial for sex crimes in los angeles maura bare has more. >> reporter: in a city where he was once known as the king of the oscar, disgraced hollywood producer harvey weinstein is back in court this week, facing a second rape trial. >> this day is long overdue for mr. weinstein to appear in a los angeles county courtroom on these very serious charges against him. >> reporter: weinstein is charged with 11 counts of rape and sexual assault multiple survivors are expected to testify katelyn delaney accused weinstein of sexually assaulting her in the mid-'90s. she is not involved in the l.a. trial. what does it mean to you as a survivor to see him here on trial in l.a.? >> it's very personal in terms of what happened to me and other women. and i think about them ie hotel rooms.

i want -- i want justice for them >> reporter: weinstein has always maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty in both new york and l.a jury selection starts monday, five years after bombshell allegations against weinstein ignited the me too movement. the former movie mogul was extradited to l.a. last summer now more than two years into his 23-year sentence for rape, weinstein was granted an appeal in august to be taken up by the full court next year >> weinstein has just a glimmer of a hope of getting his new york conviction overturned if that happens, then he is back to zero years in prison. >> when i heard about the appeal, i was so upset and horrified. >> reporter: the l.a. district attorney releasing a statement to nbc news, writing in part i want to assure every victim in los angeles that holding sexual assailants accountable is a priority in my office. a marked culture shift in the wake of the me too movement as survivors now seek justice in the court of law
