ballots in the mail, too. this is "today in the bay" streaming live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv and online. a very good tuesday morning. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm kris sanchez. marcus washington has the day off. a nice cool forecast. will it stay that way for everybody? >> the valleys are still warming up. we've seen a wide range in temperatures anywhere from 50s to 90. that's with a we'll see again today as we take a live look outside in san francisco waking up and heading out to another foggy morning. in fact, the visibility pretty low in parts of the north bay, up around santa rosa. visibility about three-quarters of a mile and the same around napa. elsewhere that fog building for the south county and will continue to most likely lower that visibility there. temperatures head for the upper 70s in san jose. we compare that to the upper 80s in livermore and some upper 50s for half moon bay. once again those temperatures

are all over the place. and, mike, you were saying some drivers may see smoke in england. talking just off the nimitz freeway. the big commute shows you a smooth start, nothing really unexpected. driving through oakland on the nimitz right around broadway you may see smoke below the freeway. there's a police station nearby. there's a parking lot with a lot of police vehicles as well right near that vehicle. there's also an encamp ment in the area. we're watching police activity. chp is not warning drivers. you may be distracted by smoke there. there is a crash north vasco road getting in toward brentwood but, of course, it's only one lane in each direction. it will distract you heading south for your morning commute. so far it seems we're at speed. back to you. thank you very much, mike. 4:32 right now. refusing to stay silent and refusing to give up hope, the message in san francisco as hundreds of protesters added

>> reporter: terry mcsweeney, "today in the bay." >> volodymyr zelenskyy is expected to address the g7. happening now police in pleasanton are trying to identify suspects linked to home invasions. you will see one of the two suspects on your screen. so far this year police say they have received more than 35 reports of break-ins that are very similar. the suspects break into the back of the home. they steal jewelry. they steal purses. fortunately, they have not hurt anyone. anyone with information should contact pleasanton police. the wife of governor newsom, jennifer siebel newsom, will testify in the next harvey weinstein trial. he is facing a second rape and sexual assault trial, this time in los angeles. filmmaker but also an actress for several years between 2002 and 2011. experts say her testimony isn't just evidence. it's very significant for all of the women that were victims of rape and sexual harassment. california's first partner is taking the stand against the once powerful hollywood producer harvey weinstein. >> she isn't balking. she is saying this happened to me. it was wrong. i stand up for myself and i'm here to tell the truth. so i think that is impactful to the jury. >> reporter: weinstein is already serving a 23-year prison term, a case he is appealing in new york. he faces 11 counts of rape and sexual assault involving the wife of governor newsom, jennifer siebel newsom. canny says she is a leader in a trial where women are standing up for women. >> is it because she's married to the governor? maybe.

or is it because in her own right she was a successful actress, a successful filmmaker, a successful business person? and right now as the governor's partner she's doing a lot of really good work to benefit women. >> reporter: in a statement newsom's attorney says in part like many women her client was sexually assaulted by harvey weinstein. at a business meeting that turned out to be a trap and intends to testify at his trial. apart from the named victims the judge will also allow dozens of other women who believe they were perpetrated by weinstein to testify. >> think about them in their hotel rooms and i want justice for them. >> reporter: dulany isn't involved in the l.a. trial but is taking this case personal. she accused weinstein of sexually assaulting her in the mid-'90s. she and others hope this

landing. dimon does say companies and consumers are in much better shape financially than during the financial crisis in 2008. meta platforms is holding an event today where it's expected to show off new products including a high-end virtual and augmented reality headset. ceo mark zuckerberg will give the keynote address. the event comes at a critical time as the parent company of facebook and instagram has seen its stock fall. amazon's second prime day event of the year starts today, boosting sales which have declined for two great quarters after demand reached record levels and sales rose by 40% during the pandemic. analysts at jeffires estimate the second prime day could add $4 billion in sales to amazon's quarterly earnings. a survey of prime members found 82% plan to shop during the sale with most planning to spend at least $50.

welcome back, folks. looking at a nice, easy start over here, looking great as you expect. vasco road northbound. no major issues going on there. no major slowing. we're at 16 minutes, 17 minutes from marsh creek down to 580. that is the bulk of the commute out of contra costa. a smooth flow for altamont pass. windmill farms, of course. the north bay and contra costa county looks great over to the bay bridge. the toll plaza itself very light traffic. you can clearly see emeryville there and, kari, we had a lot of

low clouds showing up today. we are seeing that as we head through the tri-valley with clear visibility with this live look in dublin checking out 580. visibility down to a quarter of a mile in parts of the north bay. moving from gilroy into the south bay our temperature starts out at about 50 degrees. it's a cool start and is foggy around the area. the sky will be clearing and it will shape up to be another really nice day. take a look at our high temperature for this afternoon. san jose reaching 80 degrees and 88 in morgan hill. milpitas 81 degrees. for walnut creek, 89. we compared that to the low 70s in oakland and low 60s for half moon bay. daly city, 76 degrees. we'll see temperatures mostly in

the 60s for san francisco. the north bay, 73 in mill valley. 84 in santa rosa. 92 in ukiah. can you see how different these temperatures are from one spot to the next. we are going to have a slight cooldown as high pressure moves away. that cooldown happens even more so with a storm system passing to the north. we'll see more clouds reaching in. a stronger ocean breeze. take a look at santa rosa, mid to upper 70s and low 80s. overall our seven-day forecast shows some of our warmest temperatures in the upper 80s and then we'll bring it down to the low 80s but mainly 70s for the week. looking forward to the cooler air coming in. 60s in the forecast at times in the way of clouds and fog.

now let's turn to our climate in crisis. scientists around the world are modeling and researching ways to count act the warming greenhouse gases have caused on our planet, injecting aerosols into the upper atmosphere. now this is called solar geo engineering so this is the idea they would basically place reflective particles about 12 to 16 miles above the earth at about the level airplanes fly. sounds like a plot for a movie, right? a scientist at stanford is part of a research team who released a report. even if applied it would take years to stabilize global temperatures. >> those particles injected up high in the atmosphere where

they can block out not all of the sun light but a small fraction. that can have a short-term cooling effect. so that's a relatively cheap, relatively effective that is likely to have a lot of side effects. the root cause are greenhouse gas emissions and the only way to truly stabilize the climate system is to reach net zero. that's not a political statement. that's just about planet earth. >> this is also interesting. you can watch the full interview on how it works and if it's even viable based on his research. >> thanks so much, kari. vice president harris made an appearance on "late night
