crack the case. stephanie magallon spoke with the creator about the tips they're generating. >> reporter: you can find theories about stockton serial killers, details in the central valley, and messages from some of the victims' family members. a group looking for justice. >> we have people that are contributing towards the investigation trying to put pieces of the puzzle together within our own town from across our city, from across our state and country as well as now across the world. >> reporter: renee myers created this page last week, thousands of members contributing their knowledge to help police catch the person who killed one man in oakland and then shot six others in stockton leading only one survivor. myers says in the last two days she submitted more than half a dozen tips to stockton police. >> some of them involve concerning things that have been said on the page.

and things witnessed in the community. people that have -- >> reporter: they are working with renee and say they've discussed safety measures, misinformation and the possibility of the killer participating in the group's conversations. an unsettling and disturbing thought for renee. >> i have to myself push those feelings aside that i have and some of the anxiousness i have for that for the greater good. i believe in this page so much. >> reporter: expert and professor of law eric goldman says social media has played a big role in recent cases like the investigations into the january 6th insurrection at washington, d.c., and the gabby petito murders. >> it was a nationwide hunt for both gabby and the fiance. the online communities were able

to gather and share information in a way that ultimately broke the case. >> reporter: that's what everyone is hoping for, a lead or break in the case. >> bring peace and light into a community that needs it. >> reporter: stephanie magallon for "today in the bay." >> a candlelight memorial will be held at 7:00 p.m. in san jose. it comes after a vigil was held in fremont last night at lake elizabeth. one honoring the family of four who were taken against their will last monday. their bodies were discovered a few days later in a rural part of merced county. >> we are here to pay respects and bring awareness to this injustice in our indian sikh community. >> jesus salgado was charged yesterday. he's due in court tomorrow.

chain issues and consumer demand. workers at an amazon warehouse in southern california have filed a petition with the national labor relations board to form a union. it would be the first time amazon employees in california have held a union vote. workers are seeking to be represented by the amazon labor union, the group which organized a facility in staten island earlier this year. workers in albany, new york, will begin voting on whether to join that union. twitter is reviewing policies around permanently banning users that would potentially bring content moderation more in line with elon musk's vision for the platform whether or not he buys the company. "the financial times" reports twitter has been considering other tools that could replace a ban for violating rules which is spreading misinformation.

wednesday morning. a live look outside from downtown san jose, the glow, the fog, the lights. no sun just yet. the sun has been coming up later and later as we approach these days of fall and the fog is lingering. the fog has been with us. >> it loves the bay area. >> it wouldn't be the bay area without it. let's get to your current look. in san jose, 59 degrees. we do see that marine layer hanging out about 1,600 feet right now. you can see areas of pretty dense fog down through san francisco and, of course, half moon bay. we showed you that shot down through gilmore. it's not too cold. your forecast highs for this afternoon running a few degrees cooler. a nice range of microclimate highs today.
