hill with 2 1/2 miles of visibility. let's see how those roads are doing, let's check in with mike. >> we will take a live look, here is dublin, the traffic coming toward us 580 your commute out of the altamonte pass approaching the dublin interchange traffic is moving smoothly. this is not the dublin interchange, we are crossing just shy of that, but just past that we are looking at north 680 off the 580 dublin interchange crash reported there, no slowing. it's been there for quite some time and we haven't had any problems. we will track that. the whole drive moves smoothly. the altamonte pass a little slowing off the 205 and 580, a crash off of 580, we will track that, no real impact for the volume of traffic which is light south bay, peninsula and the maze back to you. a live look at the capitol this morning where the next january 6th house hearing gets under way at 10:00 a.m. our time. >> scott mcgrew says this is supposed to be the last hearing before the midterm elections.

scott? >> it is scheduled to be, but then again at one point we thought we had already seen the last hearing. the committee has extended its schedule because as people come forward bigger and bigger names, it in turn inspires more people to step forward as witnesses and the hearings continued. there have been eight so far, this will be the ninth. the most recent hearing was in late july, each hearing has a focus or a theme. the most recent connected former president trump's actions or inactions during the actual attack, and we saw the behind the scenes footage of trump finally taping a message to the attackers telling them to go home. >> but this election is now over. congress has certified the results. i don't want to say the election is over, i just want to say -- congress has certified the results without saying the election is over, okay? >> but congress -- now congress

has certification. >> i didn't say over. let me see. go to the paragraph before. >> the committee has made progress since then. authorities have seized dozens of cell phones from secret service agents on duty that day and as we've previously reported, virginia thomas, wife of supreme court justice clarence thomas, sat for an interview. we know from text messages she was in contact with the white house and chief of staff mark matthews the day of the riot telling matthews to stand firm and not concede the election. now, this is the makeup of the house select committee and while it's possible we will see more hearings after the midterm elections, some key committee members have just months left to serve. republican co-chair liz cheney lost her primary in wyoming. republican adam kins ger and democrat stephanie murphy are not speaking reelection. of course, if the republicans win back the house, they will

disband this committee. 4:34. one south bay barber shop can't seem to catch a break. workers are scraping along after surviving the pandemic, first a fire, now they had break-ins, the latest caught on camera cost the business thousands of dollars. "today in the bay's" stephanie mag yoan explains how the thieves got in. >> reporter: a fresh cut, a little fade and a lot of frustration. these bashers say in just the past four days their business was hit twice by thieves. >> we finally make it through the pandemic, boom, next time we have our neighbors catching a fire, so we are down for a couple weeks from that and now we're on our second burglary. it's like, man, what's next? >> reporter: the first burglary happened saturday night, cameras showed two suspects with backpacks scavenging the place. >> all the tools were gone from our stations. >> reporter: proper cuts barber shop has eight bashers, each lost about $2,000 worth of

tools. let me show you where the burglars came in through. i'm told there is an empty building next door, they came through there, broke down this door and quickly came down here and into the dasher shop. >> the second time -- >> reporter: after that incident owners shawn and christian decided to invest in the adt alarm system but the thieves came back early wednesday morning through the same door and destroyed their atm. they say adt never notified them or police. >> we contacted them and they said there was a glitch in the system and they apologized for that happening and that they would refund us $500 or give us $500 in advance, but unfortunately what we lost was more than $500. >> reporter: our team contacted adt security but we have not heard back yet. meanwhile christian and shawn say they are not giving up and hope our city leaders won't, either. 4:36. what was supposed to be a normal walk for one san jose dog lover suddenly turned into a trip to the er.

he says that his pooch got ahold of some meth amphetamines on the swauk. david espinal took his 10-year-old husky loki for a walk on monday night. when they got home loki just would not calm down. he ended up taking the dog to a 24-hour clinic. vets gave loki a drug test confirming me get was in his system. >> i didn't think he could just rummage through the bushes and find meth. >> our doctors used to see a couple cases a year, now we're seeing one to two in a month. in the last 48 hours we have had two cases. >> vets say this is more common than you think. it actually happens more frequently in urban areas. sometimes those dogs can even eat a piece of drug paraphernalia. on the covid-19 booster shot kids as young as 5 years old can get. >> the fda giving the okay for kids 5 to 11, the moderna shot was cleared for kids 6 through

17. people are asking what about the flu shots? well, that flu is coming back, you know, with vengeance in some parts of the country, "today in the bay"'s audrey assist joe has that story. >> reporter: it will be the first one expecting a high number of flu cases, ucfs infectious disease expert dr. hong says the convergence of viruses could mean a busy winter season to come. >> the writing on the wall is the fact we saw earlier and more flu in australia, new zealand, brazil, argentina, south africa, it same earlier, hit hard and we are starting to see that in the u.s. >> reporter: including here in the bay area. to try to ease the blow the santa clara public health department launched a dashboard online and is offering free flu shots. >> this brand-new dashboard helps the public know how much flu is out there and how to protect themselves. just as you said, we are seeing

welcome back. all i have to do is point here to the richmond-san rafael bridge. the disabled vehicle reported somewhere around this toll plaza. we don't see any interruption. these are the lanes reportedly affected if any at all. no slowing on the sensors, we just mark it on the map. coming out of the area san quinton an on ramp issue, may be a disabled vehicle as well.

freeways over from the north bay, through the north bay, contra costa county no major problems. a little build 580, 205 light traffic, sake for vasco road. a smooth flow of traffic for the rest of the bay. vienna, we will look at the san mateo bridge. we can see the sparkling lights. >> we're still seeing some areas of drizzle as well as those low clouds and we're going to expect to keep that around at least for the first half. look at san francisco, live look but you can see the buildings. as far as temperatures out the door starting out in the 50s in san francisco, 55, san mateo 57 and we do have some areas of patchy fog including down through morgan hill, take a look, down to about 3 miles in visibility, up through santa rosa this has been one of the areas with a lot of fog this past week and it's down to about four miles right now, in through

half-moon bay seven miles. daytime highs today will be even cooler than yesterday. we will only top out in the low 80s, upper 70s, even in through areas like concord and livermore, morgan hill 78, oakland 60s, san francisco 64. we will get some afternoon sunshine mainly away from the coast. as far as your air quality goes if you are go to be out and about we will be anywhere from god to rod rat for the north bay good, coast bay and east bay moderate conditions and south bay we will be good. this will lead us into a nice comfortable weekend ahead. speaking of the weekend ahead, you thought today was going to be cooler but the weekend will be even cooler, even in through inland areas. saturday and sunday our daytime highs are finally going to feel more like fall in the mid and upper 70s. great weekend to enjoy the outdoors. looking out ahead we are monitoring a system that could bring some influence heading into next wednesday just to our north. all right. now let's switch it up for today's climate in crisis.

we are taking a dive into the health of the california coast as climate change accelerates one ecosystem struggling to keep up and that is kelp. according to noaa kelp is on the decline and over 95% of the historical kelp forest of the california coast are gone. warm ocean waters have resulted in a rising your honoren who pr eat this. their goal is to bring down the sea you are chin population and boost the recovery efforts. >> there are a lot of problems in this world that feel insurmountable, right? bringing back our kelp forest is actually not one of them. like this should be a real reason for hope, right, is that climate change is a global issue and the only solution to it long term is for us to bring down the

a number of towns have measures on the ballot, for instance, measure g in larkspur would add a sales tax to pay for city services from parks to fire departments. measure j increases an existing tax to do the same thing. belvedere and fairfax have property tax proposals that will do much of the same. sausalito voters consider measure k which would remove a ban on cannabis stores. if they are allowed stores would have to give 7.5% of their profit to the city. as always check your voters guide, more information about statewide issues at nbcbayarea.com. >> thanks, scott. can we predict earth cakes. coming up next the reason one group of local researchers say it could soon be possible. happening now california is leading the nation in zero emissions school buses, this is according to a report from the california air resources board. so the state has electrified 2% or 1,800 buses in their fleet.

>> and i'm marcus washington. we are going to get a look at the commute coming up in just a bit and that forecast is something i'm sure you will want to know about before you head out this morning. meteorologist vienna arena is looking at that. >> we still have some areas of fog and a little drizzle but we are going to see a drop in temperatures. it will be nice to finally feel like fall, not only in the daytime but also in the afternoon. right now a live look, you can see the fog right over san francisco and i do want to get to those temperatures because currently we are in the 50s in saratoga 59, fremont 57 and that's kind of what we're used to waking up to. not a big change in the past 24 hours as far as your morning lows, but if you notice we do have some of that fog pushing down through palo alto, morgan hill, san jose in through areas like livermore and of course up through napa, half-moon bay. i will guide you through all of that and what to expect. 5:00 right now. a new report shaking things
