we are going to get a look at the commute coming up in just a bit and that forecast is something i'm sure you will want to know about before you head out this morning. meteorologist vienna arena is looking at that. >> we still have some areas of fog and a little drizzle but we are going to see a drop in temperatures. it will be nice to finally feel like fall, not only in the daytime but also in the afternoon. right now a live look, you can see the fog right over san francisco and i do want to get to those temperatures because currently we are in the 50s in saratoga 59, fremont 57 and that's kind of what we're used to waking up to. not a big change in the past 24 hours as far as your morning lows, but if you notice we do have some of that fog pushing down through palo alto, morgan hill, san jose in through areas like livermore and of course up through napa, half-moon bay. i will guide you through all of that and what to expect. 5:00 right now. a new report shaking things up

on capitol hill ahead of a new january 6th hearing. a live look where the hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. our time. now, it comes in the wake of a report citing a trump employee who says the former president ordered boxes of documents at his mar-a-lago home be moved before federal agents searched the property. surveillance footage reportedly shows the staff removing boxes out of the storage room. >> that employee initially denied the allegations but after more evidence was found they revised that story saying that former president trump had given instructions to move the boxes. "today in the bay's" brie jackson in washington this morning. what do we know about today's hearings? >> good morning, marcus, laura. well, an aide to the january 6th committee says there will be a particular focus on former president trump's state of mind and his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. >> reporter: a stark warning about the january 6th attack at

the u.s. capitol. >> 1/6 was not a single day in history. the precious nature and the precarious nature of our democracy is still -- hangs in the balance. >> reporter: the house committee investigating the deadly insurrection holds what is expected to be their final public hearing this afternoon. so far they've conducted more than 1,000 interviews with 100 known subpoenas sent. today's hearing is expected to feature more surveillance video. new evidence including secret service records and testimony. >> we have had more people come forward. we have been able to fill in gaps that maybe were things we suspected but didn't fully know. >> reporter: documentary footage of trump ally roger stone will also be featured, tracking his activity leading up to the attack. >> [ bleep ]. >> reporter: committee members want to show links between far right extremist groups and trump allies. >> this egregious assault on our democracy -- >> reporter: the committee also

plans to hammer home its case that former president trump played a central role in inciting rioters who in turn stormed the u.s. capitol inflicting violence on the officers protecting? >> the select committee i think has done an outstanding job. i think he needs to be held accountable. >> reporter: trump calls the hearings an attempt by critics to stop him from running again. >> no other president has ever been treated like this. >> reporter: the latest hearing comes less than a month of before midterm elections. >> it's all through a tv screen so it's not as tangible as the gas prices are when i go to the tank. >> reporter: committee members believe trump's false claims about widespread voter fraud present an ongoing threat. and the committee could also include details about their closed door interview with ginny thomas, that's the wife of supreme court justice clarence thomas. she reportedly sent text messages to then trump chief of staff mark meadows urging efforts to overturn the 2020 election. laura? >> it's so interesting to see

"today in the bay's" bob redell joining us live. do we know of any arrests in this case yet? >> reporter: not that we are aware of. we don't believe police have arrested anyone or found whoever shot and killed ismaeli mataafa. he was a 29-year-old man, marcus, who emigrated from samoa here to america to earn his master of divinity at the pacific school of religion in berkeley. around 1:00 this past saturday

morning mataafa was on what's been described as a boys night out with three friends. there was an altercation about a block away from uc berkeley. during that altercation mataafa was shot and killed, his friends also hurt. we spoke with mataafa's professor at the pacific school of religion. >> ismaeli was never involved with the criminal element anywhere. he lived in neighborhoods that he wanted to help transform so he was dedicated to that, also dedicated to climate change. >> we are not immune to the gun crisis epidemic plaguing this country. >> reporter: last night the berkeley city council addressed saturday's mass shooting and heard from parents who are concerned about public safety in that area. mataafa was also a youth minister, a mentor in the samoan community in san lorenzo. tonight at 7:00 the community church in san lorenzo will hold a vigil in his memory. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> so tough. a lot of families just want

answers. thank you. jury deliberations resume later this morning in the kristin smart murder case. jurors had the last three days off and last held a full day of deliberations last friday. prosecutors say paul flores killed the cal poly san luis obispo student in 1996. his father was tried accused of being an accomplice. the court said if and when verdicts are reached for both men it will be announced back to back. paul flores faces a sentence of 25 years to life, his father could receive a three-year sentence. happening today the suspect accused of kidnapping and killing four members of a central family -- central valley family last week they are expected -- he is expected to be arraigned today. jesus manuel sagado faces four counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. he is also being charged with arson and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. the victims include an 8 month old girl, they were taken against their will from the

family's trucking company last month -- or last monday, excuse me. their bodies were later discovered in a rural part of merced county. if convicted salgado faces life in prison. turning to decision 2022. oakland voters have an important decision to make regarding the future of campaign finance. measure w is called the fair elections act, it would provide each voter four $25 vouchers to donate to their candidate of choice. the vouchers are not actual money. if it goes unused the amount goes back into the pot for the next election. the idea is to lower campaign contribution limits and increase voter involvement. candidates who opt in would need to qualify by raising some contributions themselves then they would have to agree to limit their campaign spending and participate in public debates among some other requirements. supporters say it will encourage more candidates to run for office, democratize the field of candidates and spur

clearing. livermore and concord yesterday the mid 80s, today we will be in the low 80s. through the south bay even more seasonable, only topping out in the mid 70s for san jose, 74 degrees, palo alto 72 and around the coastline we are going to kick up that sea breeze yet again into the afternoon. we are talking winds 15, 20 plus miles per hour starting up around 2:00, 3:00 p.m. into the overnight evening hours. as you know anytime you are around the coastline you want to wear a sweater because once the winds pick up you also have to factor in that windchill into the overnight hours. i will talk about your air quality and your seven day outlook in a few minutes. first we need to check in with mike with a look at gas prices. >> trying to do the best we can. previously we talked about things below $5, now we are hunting for below $6, we found them. this is lower than most of the prices for regular. at the top santa clara is platinum gas on washington street it has $5.69 a gallon. washington avenue in san leandro it's $5.75, superior gas and the

through starting at 11:00, 12:00, right around your lunch hour the temperatures start to climb into the 60s. good gilroy can expect to see upper 70s, low 80s through the south bay. we will talk more about that coming up. i thought i saw the taillights stop for a second here in palo alto, turns out it's just light traffic flow, i think. had a little space in the traffic. there we go. nice spacing 101 north and south, the commute on the peninsula has not yet been an issue as far as the volume building. great opportunity here. let's get an opportunity to check in with business and silvana. >> good morning, i'm silvana henao from cnbc. wall street set to open higher. a report is expected to show inflation rose a slightly faster face last month than in august due to rising rents but moderated a touch from a year ago. stocks slipping yesterday following the release of the minutes from last month's federal reserve meeting. they show the central bank expects to keep hiking interest

rates until it sees inflation drop. also in focus today jobless claims and earnings from delta airlines and walgreens. tiktok's parent company bytedance is in talks with music labels to expand the streaming service to compete with spotify. they eventually want the service to be integrated with tiktok. the streaming service is currently available in more than a dozen markets including india and brazil and bytedance wants the service to be available worldwide so users can discover songs on tiktok and easily subscribe to music. millions of social security recipients will learn today just how much of a boost they will get in their benefits next year. the cost of living increase which will be announced today is expected to be the highest in 40 years and it's fueled by record high inflation and it's meant to help cover the cost of food, fuel and other goods and services, guys. hopefully it will be enough to help people pay for the higher prices. >> we're seeing them everywhere.

going to feel more like october. let's take a look at your inland daytime highs, conk core and livermore some of our warmer spots. san francisco down through palo alto it's about a five plus degree difference. another thing as well once we do get the clearing we're still going to be seeing the sea breeze begin to kick up. i want to talk about your air quality forecast because this will play a role in your outdoor plans. up through the north bay good conditions, coast,ay and east bay moderate conditions, no advisories or anything in place but it's always a good reminder to talk about how they go about the index for those air quality advisories when there is one and they go based off five major pollutants. they talk about ground level ozone, particle pollution. ground level ozone is impacted by systems like high pressure which manage to trap all of that yucky stuff closer to the surface. also carbon monoxide. whenever we're seeing smoke from nearby fires, all of these play a role in how they go about the

air quality index. a fun fact for you on this fun -- i was going to say fun friday morning but i guess it's thursday. inland seven-day forecast saturday and sunday remember i talked about the fall-like weather, well, there it is. 70s on the map and that's going to be your daytime highs heading into monday and into tuesday, we're going to keep the 70s on the map. if you notice on wednesday there is a little note there that says system just south and what that's going to do is that's going to hopefully kick up some changes in our forecast, positive ones. san francisco 70 outlook we will keep the sea breeze around along with early morning fog and daytime highs in the 60s. mike, how are the roads going. >> you talked about a system just south, this is the south bay 280 coming towards us, 880 goes that way, 17 that way, get you oriented for those shoppers near valley fair and santana road. a smooth drive throughout the entire south bay maps. 101 looking for a build coming up past 680 and our camera,

slowing around oakland road, mckee, allen rock that should be in 20 minutes. the rest of the south bay and the rest of the bay a smooth flow. the dublin interchange no problems, walnut creek interchange some thing, a build for the altamonte pass and val seeds 84 typical slower sensors, a few more cars no major problems, vallejo at speed for highway 37. out of pittsburgh and bay point that typical slowing heading to the bay bridge without any incidents or problems. a spike in prices at the pumpkin patch. we will take you to a farm and explain
