thanks for joining us, i'm chris chmura sitting in for kira klapper. meteorologist roy mayeda is in. >> low clouds in san francisco, a little bit of misty skies too. low clouds are going to stick around for the day. which means our temperatures later on will be only in the low 60s, closer to san francisco and to the south and san jose also waking up to the low cloud cover. should see temperatures climbing into the low 70s later on. thanks to the all day sea breeze and the low clouds which will eventually clear inland around lunchtime, highs low to mid-60s, bay side along the coast. inland temperatures today just the mid-70s. i think you're going to be surf praised by our temperatures as we -- surprised by our temperatures as they head to tomorrow. showers returning to the seven-day forecast. a closer look at that coming up in about 12 minutes. >> thanks very much. all eyes are on the warriors final preseason game, and not just focused on the scoreboard,

we watched the dubs lose to the denver nuggets. we also saw draymond green and jordan pool share the court for the first time since that now infamous punch. the two put aside their differences for the game zplort warriors jordan pool hasn't spoken publicly after a leaked video of a punch showed teammate draymond green and pool getting into some sort of disagreement in practice. as the regular season is days away, teammate klay thompson said after the game they're moving on. >> well, it's in the past and it was very unfortunate. i think time will heal all wounds. i love both those guys. jordan's like a little brother. draymond's like a brother, and i think we're ready to move past it. >> green's been fined an undisclosed amount saying he's not listening to the critics and

focusing on the teams and that's what the fans we talked to are focused on too. >> i think they're going to get through that. it was pretty bizarre, but i think they're going to get through it. yeah, they're a good team. >> give each other a hug and let's win another championship. that's what it's all about. >> i don't think draymond's going to punch anyone else for a while so that's the good part. last night someone? pittsburgh shot a woman and a young boy, and before the gunfire police tell us there had been a car crash. officers tell us the two victims are related. the woman had to be flown to the hospital by helicopter. she's in critical condition. the boy taken by ambulance with what we are told are non-life-threatening injuries. no arrests at this point. after repeated reports of bizarre behavior by a man in san francisco, police have arrested a man and accused him of following and sometimes grabbing women. this is a story we first told you about a few weeks ago.

a woman named sarah told us the man walked up behind her and started touching her. she ran away. sarah posted photos of the man online and dozens of other women say they also had unwanted encounters with the same guy. >> women were followed at night. some were grabbed on the street really similar to what happened to me. and there was one person who even he grabbed her outside safeway and kissed her. >> now san francisco police have arrested bill hobbs. they linked him to 14 recent incidents so far. the d.a. is promising to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law. she's also pushing to keep hobbs in jail as he awaits trial calling him a public safety risk. investigators are saying the stockton serial killer is not connected to two unsolved killings in chicago. this week investigators said there might be a connection to two people killed in chicago in

2018. they said that man had the same sort of walk or limp as the person of interest in the stockton killings, but now after additional investigation, chicago police have determined there is no link. stockton police have been going to homeless encampments now passing out flyers showing the person of interest and advising people to stay out of dark areas. four of the people were homeless. one of the victims was killed in oakland. >> we're out here with flyers, having conversations how they can be safer. >> $125,000 reward being offered to anyone who has information leading to an arrest. we've now learned police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly hit and run that left a mother of three dead. she was walking from her nail salon to her car in wall thut creek earlier this month. that's when a gold sedan hit and killed her.

the driver took off. then yesterday police announced they have arrested art ramirez, put him in custody. he's from brentwood. they tracked him down thanks to tips from witnesses and surveillance video. a rash of recent car crashes in san jose is putting 2022 on track to be the most dangerous year on record for pedestrians. the most recent crash occurred yesterday morning. a car hit a woman in a costco parking lot. police said she had life-threatening injuries but has stabilized. that's the fourth accident in a day or so. on thursday three other collisions in the city including one that killed an elderly woman trying to cross the street near lundy and sajak avenues. 28, that number ties the city's highest ever number of pedestrian deaths. stanford students are demanding more action from the university following two rapes in the past three months. hundreds of students rallied at white plaza yesterday.

students say sexual assault is an ongoing problem on campus made worse, they say, by a lack of enforcement. organizers say they rarely see punishment when rape is reported. >> we demand that there be sufficient, if not incredible support for survivors and accountability for perpetrators of sexual violence on campus. >> organizers are demanding administrators devote more funding to support prevention programs. no one has been arrested in either rape case this year. it is unclear what ties, if any, the rapist might have to the campus. stanford for its part sent us a statement saying in part sexual violence is a very challenging issue that we and all universities have been working aggressively to address. our programs continue to evolve to meet the needs of our community, and we welcome the community's continuing input. many people have covid fatigue, but the virus isn't going away. experts say new variants derived from omicron are quickly

"today in the bay"'s stephanie magallon tells us about the bq1 and bq1.1 variants. >> for weeks now it receives like covid-19 has been receding from our charts and our minds. the majority of the crowds were seen with no masks and a whole lot of excitement. others admit the virus is still lingering in the back of their mind. >> i know i still think about it. got to help protect this little guy over here. >> i'm also concerned about what's going to come after the b.a. variant. >> we might already know what's next for this winter, a pack of new variants battling to take over, including bq 1 and bq 1.1. >> kind of new to the united states. >> they're known to be immune evasive and were detected crass the globe a while ago, but only recently did they catch our attention. take a look at these cdc graphs, everything in blue is ba 5, the

dominant strain. you can see that in just the last week, they and other variants are suddenly pushing ba.5 off the chart. why does that matter? it has to do with our immunity. >> because boosters are targeting regular ba.4 and ba.5. it just means our maximal protection against breakthrough infections instead of being six months or more might be two or three months. if you get boosted now you'll have the max protection at least for the holidays. these variants haven't been detected in the bay area yet. it won't be long until we see them. stephanie magallon for "today in the bay." happening today, some family fun, half moon bay is inviting families to enjoy the half moon bay art and pumpkin festival. look at that thing right there. that's video from this week way off. this year is special out there. it's the 50th anniversary.

robbed at gunpoint and one was shot while waiting for a cab. on this tuesday morning around one, near the b.a.r.t. station, the men had just left a bar when a car pulled up and three gunmen robbed them. one of the gunmen pulled out a rifle and shot one of the guys waiting for a cab. that guy is expected to be okay. one of the largest homeless encampments in northern california is now nearly gone. we're talking about the infamous wood street encampment in oakland. here's a look at what the site used to look like. the video on the left shows wood street before the cleanup and then on the right, that's afterward. originally the encampment spanned several blocks. as you can see on the right side of your screen, there's a lot less out there. caltrans has said in the past it was working with the city and county to get the people who live there into shelters. 80 senior citizens are waking up someplace new today unexpectedly.

fire forced them from their home in oakland yesterday. the fire gutted grand lake gardens near lake merritt in the morning. firefighters say a power strip sparked lighting a blanket and couch on fire. flames tore through the fifth floor. >> where i really started feting concerned was the smell of the smoke coming into my apartment and that there was water coming in and down through the walls. >> i have my prescription meds. that's about it. >> many residents are now waiting to hear when they can go home or if they have a home to return to. a building spokesperson said most residents are now staying at a sister facility and they are working on housing plans. happening today, the alzheimer's association walk to end alzheimer's silicon valley kicks off at 9:30. that's at san jose giants stadium. our telemundo colleague arlen
