this wednesday. thanks for allowing us to be a participate of your morning. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we'll check in mike in just a bit, get a look at the midweek commute. let's get a look at the forecast right now with meteorologist kari hall. good morning. yes, we're starting out all clear across the bay area. today the warmest day of the week. let's get a live look outside in san francisco where there's no fog as of now. it's actually going to be a sunny day, and take a look at how warm it will be going into this afternoon, reaching into the upper 70s at 3:00. it's going to start to cool off by about 5:00 once that breeze kicks in but, yeah, it will be a warm day. take a look at some of these numbers that will feel more like summertime reaching 83 in san francisco. we'll see some upper 80s in san jose and a lot of 90s in our inland areas from santa rosa over to concord and down to san martin. so once again the peak of the heat. it will cool off this weekend and it comes maybe with a little bit of rain.
4:32 am
i'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike, you have a look at the relatively calm conditions. relatively calm because it's relatively early, 4:31. we're still looking at green sensors. the major freeways are not having any major problems this is a major closure. we haven't seen this for a while. that's westbound 84. you can't connect between 680 and mission boulevard. you'll use those two to get around there. should be cleared the next half hour. showing a nice smooth, easy drive. highway 4 over to i-80 and the bay bridge. back to you. >> thanks so much, mike. 4:32 right now. a san francisco woman is telling us the story of a bullet that smashed through her bedroom window and shattered her dresser mirror. >> this happened when she harm's way. csweeney has her story. when it went through the window, it made a sound like a balloon popping. that's what it sounded like but it was loud.
4:33 am
>> reporter: that is how 9-year-old dylan jordan described the sound sunday night of a bullet crashing through his parents' bedroom window, blinds and drapes, and shattering the mirror on the dresser. his mother sarah, who did not want to appear on camera, discovered the scene a short time later. she was shaken. >> on a normal night i would be laying here around 9:20 reading, kind of getting ready for bed and just by chance i was not. if i had been, the bullet probably would have gone right over my head. if i had been standing there it probably would have hit me. >> reporter: sarah and her husband found the bullet but were at a loss where it came from. no high rises nearby but the bullet had a downward trajectory. police figured it out. >> once they saw the bullet and saw how large it was, they knew it was an assault-style rifle, and that it should have -- if it was any closer, it would have shot through the wall. >> reporter: police investigators believe it may have come from a shoot-out near jefferson square park nearly

three-quarters of a mile away and the bullet was slowing down over the distance sunday night. very difficult for the jordan family. >> obviously rattled and a little disturbed. it was hard to sleep but overall we were just grateful and thankful that we were all okay. >> reporter: sarah jordan, a relative of former san francisco mayor and police chief frank jordan, wants to make sure this is not merely a story about guns and crime in san francisco. >> is it bad out in san francisco? yes, right now it is. is it dirty right now? yes, it is. do i love the city? yes, i do. and we're not going anywhere. if anything, we want to make it better. >> reporter: terry mcsweeney, "today in the bay." now to a follow yum for you on a break-in at a san francisco jewelry and antique store. we brought you this story yesterday on "today in the bay." now the owner of the store has shared her security video showing the people involved. it happened in the richmond

break down this winter outlook we're looking at. thank you for joining us here. first, at last check, this is so interesting. at least just under 7% of americans haven't gotten this latest booster. why do you think that? i mean, does everyone just think they're safe now? >> it's due to a few factors. the first some people are waiting to be strategic. we've actually told them, hey, you might want to wait until october to do it because then your antibodies will peak at a time we're surging. secondly, we're not seeing a lot of cases. we know in the past when people see a lot of their friends get ill, maybe go to the hospital, that drives vaccine behavior. there's a lot of vaccine fatigue. and then finally i think there's been a lot of -- or lack of communication about who the most important groups are and some people are just too tired of
4:37 am
covid news altogether. >> you mentioned that possibly you wait a little bit just as you would with the flu shot, i would imagine, so your span last as little longer. do we know potentially how long this booster could last, or could we now see another variant or a surge this winter? >> well, i think, laura, the writing is on the wall. i think everyone expects we will see an increase in cases. it wouldn't be close to what we probably saw in 2020 and 2021. nevertheless, more people are moving around, they're traveling and, most importantly, there are at least five variants we're watching closely that might be responsible for increase in cases in europe and in asia that have already been seen in the united states. >> okay. and with the holidays quickly approaching, people ready to get out, they're going to concerts. they want to see family as well, what do you think -- what advice can you give to people that are possibly upping their exposure in a sense and traveling to see

analysts say they could stay that way through thanksgiving, and that's largely due to the spread of bird flu but this year cases started showing up in july. commercial producers have had to kill tens of thousands of birds to contain the virus leading to lower supply. higher feed cost and labor shortages are also factors. the usda says the cost of an 8 to 16 pound turkey is $1.99 a pound versus $1.15 last year. marcus and laura, back to you. >> have a little more stuffing. >> maybe go out to eat this year. >> but that's high, too, or finding a place. it's hard. >> high and hard. >> thank you, silvana. 4:43. the warriors back with a new championship bling. coming up on "today in the bay," a closer look at the rings and special meaning behind them. also highlights from their season opener against the lakers.

days. we'll see it coming back. now we're going to start out with a look at our live view. in dublin as you get ready to head out the door, everything is all good. temperatures are in the low 60s. we've also had a mostly clear sky across much of the bay area. we're at 56 degrees right now. we'll stay here through about 8:00 and then we start to come out of the 50s into the 60s and you can see the trend there. we don't spend any time at all in the 60s. okay, let's jump right to the 70s. and later today we're headed for the 90s. the warm-up will happen quickly reaching 92 degrees in dublin. san jose up to 89 degrees. and 91 in martinez. so, yeah, we're looking at the calendar, looking at these temperatures. something doesn't really connect here. it feels like summer. it will this afternoon. and tomorrow it starts to come down just a little bit. it's still going to be hot in fairfield reaching 91 degrees and we'll see some mid-80s for
4:48 am
novato and heading down to san mateo where we start to feel it a little bit milder with some mid-70s there. we're still in the upper 80s in the south county. take a look at your friday. this is when we get a nice little cooldown, our temperatures drop back to the 70s. take a look at ukiah, one of our usual hotter spots. we're going to reach up to 94 degrees today. 93 tomorrow. then 82 on friday. and then look at saturday. oh, what happened? that's fall. the upper 60s there. and we'll see the temperatures staying in the 60s and 70s next week. so the first little wave of cooler air with some clouds comes in on friday. and once again that's when we have a pretty significant drop in our temperatures. and then weep see another coal front coming in, even a chance of rain. but it looks like it just kind of misses us off to the north and east. possibly a light sierra snow on saturday. if you're going to be there, that would be cool to see. then as we go to next week, we'll have more widespread rain
4:49 am
coming in. let's get a look at what one computer model is showing. really it's not a lot. anywhere you see the light blue, it's about a quarter inch of rain or less but we do see a couple of little spots with some green, maybe even some yellow in the mix. we could get up to a half inch of rain as we go towards next week. looking at our overall forecast, hot today. still pretty warm tomorrow. and then it cools down, feels like fall on frip day but definitely feels like fall on saturday. and next week we are staying mild. while san francisco, you are hitting the low 80s today. we'll drop it back to 70 with some 60s in time for the week. mike, how is it looking in the south bay? >> we are looking at a smooth drive for the silicon valley freeways. got a note about highway 17. let's zoom in over here southbound 17 just past the highway 9 exit. a lane closure from overnight, maintenance. that may be an issue. it's mostly northbound.
4:50 am
the southbound side saw some slowing. i see it moving down there. it may just be some slow moving vehicles that came through the area. a nice, easy drive down past the summit into santa cruz. the commute is northbound. so santa cruz mountains fine. 101, we watch for early signs. none yet out of san martin. over here travel times are great. highway 4, you are at speed. antioch all the way to concord and we're looking at vasco road still at speed. marsh creek down to 580. the slowing typical out of the altamont pass. back up to speed just before -- just after you get to grant line road. back to you. >> thanks, mike. a lot of bling and a lot of smiles at chase center as the world champion warriors receive those championship rings. >> showing off the bling. they got a win in their season opener defeating rival l.a. lakers.
