francisco. the reaction from folks in the city who are skeptical. this is today in the bay streaming live on roku, amazon fire tv, apple tv, and online. >> want to flush the idea away. 4:30 on your thursday. good morning. thank you for joining us. >> we're going to get you caught up on the commute in a bit. first, let's talk about the forecast. kari, yesterday was something. >> yes, it was. >> i was like, what is going on? >> it did feel a little weird. it's still going to be warm today for a lot of inland areas, as you now see the fog returning to san francisco, this is one of the areas that's going to find some relief from the warmer weather, and it will reach up to 73 degrees there, but we're still in the upper 80s as you move into the east bay and even 91 in livermore. san jose comes down several degrees and we're looking at a high of 83 with some mid-70s in san mateo. we are also going to continue to cool off as we head into the weekend. i'll have more on that in a few

minutes. mike, you're tracking an alert on the east shore freeway. >> we happen to have one of the cameras we tune into. the flares are out, the activity over here, an overturned box truck is blocking the majority of the lanes for eastbound 80. your upper east shore freeway. chp says two lanes get by. it looks like 1 1/2 lanes. as we look at the maps you see the slowing that's happening. again, eastbound 80. it's opposite your main commute, but traffic flow through the area, it is definitely being slowed by that. let's say one lane open right now. eastbound 80 gets over toward the carquinez bridge. that's a slow drive just shy of coming skyway now that this direction away from the bay bridge and your main commute comes down the east shore freeway. if you're heading to the north bay, that's a problem. if you're on your main commute, that will be a distraction. we'll track that closely. we have our crew heading over to the scene. everything else looks like it's moving slowly. back to you. >> thanks, mike. an emotional night in

oakland as mayor libby schaaf delivered her final state of the city address. this comes as the city of oakland is dealing with the highest crime rate anywhere in the state. the mayor gave her address in an area hit hard by the violence. today in the bay reports the mayor also had some good news to report. >> what an honor it's been to be your mayor for eight, and i'll be honest, long years. >> the years have been long and difficult. mayor libby schaaf addressing a crowd of supporters. she mentioned many of her successes but she couldn't ignore the problem the city is having with crime. >> when we talk about public safety, the news this year is ■t tragic. it is disturbing. >> she says the post-pandemic spike in violence is similar with the national average. the city's weekly crime report from october 10th to october 16th, there have been two killings, bringing the year to date total to 102. the same number of murders, the

same time last year. >> after we had literally had our most sustained period of the fewest murders in oakland's history, it is heartbreaking to see all of that go out the window. but it also makes me believe that we can regain that again because we have done it before. >> the executive director of the oakland vietnamese chamber of commerce doesn't blame mayor for the crime problem in the community. she said it's politics in general. >> on the one hand, solutions are promised, but the problems supersede what they're able to do. >> the mayor says under her leadership, oakland has made strides. >> keep oakland housed. keep oakland housed has directly helped formally homeless people, our most vulnerable, stay in the housing they have. >> she says her cabinet developed a plan to produce

17,000 new homes including 4700 new affordable homes by the year 2024. she believes the next mayor can move oakland forward to what it could be in the future. cheryl hurd, today in the bay. >> a follow-up from the oakland police, now setting things straight on the idea of using possible armed robots to help fight crime. the short answer is, it won't. earlier this week, the idea started gaining traction following comments made by police during a recent commission meeting. opd floated the idea of equipping robots with shotguns. the department now posting a statement saying in part, after further discussions with the chief and the executive team, the department decided it no longer wanted to explore that particular option. >> a new shake-up in the santa clara county sheriff's office. undersheriff is retiring, he's among those involved in the scandal surrounding sheriff laurie smith who is now on trial for allegedly prided conceal

carry gun permits in exchange for campaign contributions. sung also criminally charged by the grand jury. he went on administrative leave two years ago. >> here's a story getting a lot of attention and making san francisco's leaders backtrack. the city is using taxpayer money for a tilet. a single bathroom that cost the city $1.7 million. we take a closer look. >> this turned out to be a perfect spot to soak in the sun, but the city's price tag to build a public restroom at the corner of the park is getting quite a few people a little heated. >> that's crazy. it's just sort of an artifact of everything that going crazy in the city. how can it possibly be $1.7 million? >> there was supposed to be an announcement proclaiming success in securing the funding from the state but they abruptly canceled it once word of the price tag got out.
