thank you for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we want to get to that breaking news this morning, that big rig crash blocking all lanes of northbound 680 near highway 84 on ramp. now this is in sunol near fremont. we do have live team coverage this morning. first, we want to start with "today in the bay's" bob redell live at the scene. talk to us about what you're learning since you've been out there. >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus. chp said it will be a while before they're able to remove this jackknifed big rig. it was hauling two trailers and you can see what the problem is. when it hit the center divide it went up on the center divide so can you see one trailer is on the center divide. we will walk around to the front and you can see where the actual cab is at. it is also on the center divide so the issue is lifting all of this up and getting it out of the way. wreckers are out here, people with tow truck crews figuring out how to remove this. you can see this is why it will take some time.

we're northbound 680 in sunol which is shut down, the northbound direction just after the eastbound highway 84 off ramp to go through livermore. that's where all the traffic has been diverted. i spoke to the driver. what's inside are empty boxes and cages. he's doing okay. he said he didn't see the barrels back there. there are some barrels when which he hit and overcorrected. the on ramp to get to livermore, you see the over to my buddy mike inouye. what are your speed sensors showing here? >> they're reflecting what you're seeing. everybody at a standstill. you see, though, how close bob was. he was right there with the truck towering above him folded in half with the two trailers.

because bob is out there, we know it's safe because chp will not open that for quite some time, wouldn't let him be out there, neither would chp. northbound 680 at 84. folks are forced off to the right heading in through town, pleasanton and livermore. folks are heading back up to isabel where they're heading up to stanley or holmes, back to 680 or 580 which will send more traffic into the dublin interchange. some of this coming out of livermore. folks are slowing down and likely turning around. i'll show you more detail coming up. everything else is clear. i continue to update this on twitter, my twitter page with this crash as well as any other urgent information. you can find me @mike inouye. it's been all clear as we look at our san mateo bridge

commute and starting out around the bay area with a mostly cloudy morning. we're seeing some patches of fog and temperatures in the low 50s as you head out and on your way to work. it's a cool start to the morning and will be a cooler day as we head for 70s and low 80s today compared to the hot temperatures we've had this week. and along the peninsula, parts of the inner bay as well as the coastline, we'll be in the 60s this afternoon. so big changes ahead. finally feeling like fall. we'll talk about even cooler weather in our forecast coming up in a few minus. thanks so much, kari. there's a bizarre mystery in atherton. crews are digging up an entire vehicle buried in the backyard of a mansion after landscapers hit it while digging. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us now with what investigators found inside. kris, what's going on here? >> reporter: well, we don't know everything that was found inside that car, but we do know the

landscapers were quite surprised when they came upon it and now the work is under way to bring that car up to the surface so investigators can check it out. we do know cadaver dogs were brought out as well and they picked up some sort of scent according to investigators. sky ranger was over the home here on stock bridge avenue. it was crawling with investigators. atherton police say the homeowners, who were unaware of what was buried in their backyard, called police when this happened. the vehicle was buried four to five feet underground. cadaver dogs came in later because of the strange nature of the situation and they did pick something up. >> cadaver dogs were called to the scene. the cadaver dogs made a slight notification of possible human remains. >> reporter: now police say that no remains have been found at this point, just bags of concrete inside the vehicle. police believe the carp was buried some time the in the 1990s and tied to a former homeowner who is now under

investigation. the homeowners who bought the house in 2020 were unaware of what was in their backyard. apparently the house was sold just back in march of 2020. in atherton, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> interesting how this unravels. parents and students are trying to get some answers to a crisis happening here in the bay area. we're talking about fentanyl. people say several teenagers have died from fentanyl overdoses in the past two years. attendees actually soefd received doses of narcan, the medication to reverse overdoses. >> because the more people that we can get narcan in the hands of that are trained to use narcan, we could save a life. >> santa clara county health leaders say fentanyl overdose deaths have grown exponentially

over the last three years. the county wants to make narcan available to all local high schools and plans to hold more awareness events. a sobering new look at the impact from soaring inflation. moody analytics finds the typical u.s. household is spending $445 more per month. most experts agree prices will likely not retreat with interest rates expected to keep climbing. last month consumer prices up 8.2% year over year, slightly down from the summer peak. one expert with defined financial planning says the fed is trying to get that number down to 2%. >> it's a long way to go to get down to that 2% target. and i believe the fed is going to kind of really raise rates and take that hawkish approach until we see meaningful declines in those numbers. >> he says there are financial strategies you can take now in order to save on your retirement

accounts. >> the most important thing you want to do with these types of numbers coming out of the cpi is focus on your income plan. what participate of your income plan has some sort of inflation protection now if you're working or thinking about retirement? >> while it's hard to predict the rate of inflation, the fed's efforts will likely start to produce results with people borrowing less and the demand for goods and services decreasing. pfizer giving the first hint of what they expect to charge for its covid vaccine. this is once the federal vaccination program expires. pfizer expects to charge anywhere between $110 to $130 per dose. the company tells analysts the vaccine will be made available with no co-pay to people who
