winds back off overnight, stand the chance of seeing patchy frost. down through san jose. i think it's enough wind moist of the bay area tonight keeps 40s for low temperatures. as you head up to santa rosa, napa and morgan hill, that could set the stage for temperatures in the 30s, which would be close to record-breaking cold this early in the season. the frost advisory. cooling temperatures toward the middle of the week. next weekend we're tracking the chance of seeing a few more showers. a first look at that and your halloween forecast in about ten minutes. it was a busy night for police in two bay area cities,

responding to very large sideshows. huge crowds gathering in vallejo around 11:00 last night in the area of columbus parkway and georgia street. you can see there were 100 spectators blocking the road as they watched the dangerous stunts in the middle of the intersection. police there broke up the crowd in about 20 minutes and arrested four people and impounded a car. a few hours later another sideshow popped up in oakland near 90th and macarthur. video captured what sounded like gunshots coming from the area of that sideshow. now we reached out to oakland police for more information on any possible arrests, and we are still waiting to hear back. now santa rosa could soon be joining other cities in the bay area in cracking down on sideshows. the city council will be voting.

highlighted his record on the economy, investment in education and climate goals. >> the hots are getting a lot hotter. the dries are getting a lot drier. we have atmospheric rivers. >> reporter: the two met at kqed in san francisco and it gave the republican a chance to try to raise his profile in a heavily blue state, as newsom seeks a second term. >> californians are fleeing california for one reason. because they can't afford to live here, and he's out of touch with every day middle class, hard working californians. >> reporter: they touched hot button issues. newsom responded to criticism about companies leaving california, regulations and taxes. >> the state of california grew at 7.8% gdp last year, outperformed the united states at 5.7%. we created 569,000 jobs since

2019. >> gavin newsom is clear that there are big issues, and america needs big and outspoken leadership. and that's what i think gavin newsom is doing as wearing the hat of governor of california and being the primary campaigner in america on the issues. >> and a reminder for voters. tomorrow is the last day to register to vote or update voter registration information and receive a ballot in the mail. if you missed the deadline you can register and update your record in person at city hall, at a city hall voting center or polling place. president biden will soon be triple boosted. he's set to get the bivalent booster shot on tuesday.

the cdc says so far only about 20 million americans have gotten their updated boosters. the shot targets the original strain and omicron ba.4 and ba.5. starting tomorrow, stanford will ease their masking rules. they say they're doing this because the number of covid cases on campus and in the region remain low. a strike starts tomorrow for alta bates nurses. the issues are forcing them to pick up extra shifts and work overtime, leading many of them to leave. there are nearly 2,000 nurses at their facilities run by sutter health. they say we remain focussed on

this was in the sunset neighborhood between ortega and pacheco. fortunately no one was hurt or displaced. the cause is under investigation. it's more than just your typical halloween display. for one family it's a way to bring joy to their terminally-ill son. and this year the spooky showcase means more than ever before. >> reporter: the theme this year is the jimenez pumpkin pack. look how elaborate this display is, filled with animatronics. and while their son christopher can no longer see, he's finding new ways to enjoy this labor of love. from the talking skeleton to the giant scarecrow. hundreds of people have come from as far away as fresno to see the spooky pumpkin patch on willow glen. the jimenez family began working on the display in august as a way to bring joy to their 27-year-old terminally-ill son

christopher who just returned home from the hospital. >> we didn't think he was going to make it this last hospitalization. so to have him here sitting next to me, it just, it means so much. and we just take it day by day, and we have to cherish each day that we have. you never know if it will be his last. >> reporter: chris suffered brain damage as a baby. has cerebral palsy, several lung diseases and is now blind, but it hasn't stopped him from enjoying this display. his twin sister kayla says he especially loves hearing people scream when the animatronics move or when visitors yell out, "hi, chris"! >> he does like a shocked, oh! when people yell out and walk by. >> reporter: christopher's mom started putting up the elaborate

displays about two years ago when her son was too ill to attend disneyland. >> having people come by just to enjoy our display, it really means everything to me, because being home bound, we don't really have much of an existence anymore. >> reporter: a pumpkin patch growing memories to last a lifetime. chris's mother is already working on a christmas display for her son, and she's hoping he'll enjoy hearing that one just as much. in willow glen, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. celebrating the history of the black panther party in oakland. today the dr. huey p. newton foundation held a block party. newton founded the black panther party in 1966 in oakland. dozens of community programs

grew out of the movement. one year ago the foundation installed a sculpture of newton, a first for the city. several leaders spoke at the block party, including congresswoman barbara lee. she got involved in black panther activism as a young woman. >> they held rallies where my little boys and myself gave out shoes. i had the privilege to work with our great sister. erica. >> newton lived until 1989 when he was murdered by a member of the black gorilla party. and a lawsuit against a baker who refused to make a cake for a gay couple. we're not going to allow the former president, he's not going

documents are due a week from friday on november 4th. a judge says a central valley bakery that refused to make a wedding cake for the same-sex couple had the right to. the case stems from 2017. the owner of tasteries refused to bake the cake and argued it would go against her christian beliefs. she was sued, claiming that she violated anti-discrimination laws. the decision is protected under the first amendment. they have not determined what the next step will be. some survivors of the deadly camp fire are still living in trailers or tents, saying they're not paid all the money they're owed. so far fund has paid less than half of the money owed.

it was created in 2020 after pg&e was found■ñ at fault for causing the camp fire. half a million people were displaced when it ripped through butte county in 2018. survivors say they haven't gotten enough from the trust to rebuild their lives. they say corporate restructuring are behind the delays. puerto vallarta is in cleanup mode after being hit by hurricane roslyn. the region is also dealing with heavy rain and flash flooding. but the busy airport was able to resume all operations today. advocates rallied in the south bay today in support after

channel. our chris chmura has made how-to videos. >> we're here through october 23rd, we haven't had too many of these events. but unfortunately, as we see storm systems that miss the bay area, we see the winds picking up. san jose 59 degrees. northwest wind at 7 miles per hour. out toward the tri valley, 56 degrees. dublin and livermore, we may see temperatures trying to drop closer to the upper 30s by early morning. san rafael, 58 degrees. and if those winds stay ongoing overnight you will not be seeing 30 degree temperatures there, and we shouldn't see 30s around san francisco. closer to the inner bay, 57 degrees, should see upper 40s by tomorrow morning. the driest locations in the bay area. napa county and lake county. higher up above, a thousand

feet, the winds are pretty blustery, that is a dry wind, and it helps to keep the temperatures in the 50s. we are expecting 30s and 40s overnight. that does involve the wind backing off. 11:00 tonight to 9:00 tomorrow, it includes the inner east bay valleys. provided the winds ease up. the clouds trap some of the heat coming off the ground. napa, santa rosa, morgan hill likely will be the coolest places for the morning, but your day begins with numbers in the mid 40s. by lunchtime, dress in layers, as we go back to fall-like temperatures, less winter-like.

low 70s. another system is dropping down and doesn't provide with rain but with the cool, dry air. it's going to be likely tuesday into wednesday we'll see the clouds come through, breezes pick up again. and notice temperatures trending actually a little bit cooler inland as we approach the middle part of the week. tuesday, wednesday, probably less so on thursday. we'll see a little more of the north wind at times especially across the interior mountains. the next chance and possibly the best chance of seeing showers will be sunday. what does this mean for halloween? on sunday comes the chance of seeing some showers passing on through. right now looks like thigs could be clearing just in time for the halloween forecast. breezy conditions, cool at times. we'll see a bit of the north wind picking up. we'll see if we get any wind advisories for tuesday and

life. >> but critics worry about inspections that were languishing because pg&e was ordered to close the plant. jaxon van derbeken has the story. >> reporter: the diablo nuclear power plant is the last one running in the state, generating 2200 mega watts daily, but it's near a fault line. with the state embracing renewable alternatives and public sentiment turning against nuclear, pg&e was planning to shut down diablo canyon by 2025, so they let some upgrades and inspections go, with regulators agreeing they weren't worth doing given the upcoming shutdown. but now they've been given a reprieve, planning to go longer. >> all of a sudden there's a lot
