mercedes convertible is at a crime lab. a five-bedroom, seven-bath mansion and the rest of that 12,000-foot estate. police do know the car belongs to the former owner of the property. he report this had car stolen in 1992 only to be discovered buried decades later on his property with several bags of cement last week. now lu had quite a history with the law. he was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend in the 1960s and convicted of attempted murder of another person in 1977. he also had numerous run-ins with the law including insurance fraud in the '90s including a plot to sink his yacht by the golden gate bridge and collect the insurance money.

beginning a five-day straight. it is part of sacramento-based sutter health. the nurses are striking unsafe working conditions and high turnover rates. alta bates medical center's commitment to providing the community with critical services and high-quality, safe patient care during a strike and into the future remains unchanged. respiratory virus or rsv is on the rise. reporting flu-like symptoms, the school canceled athletic events throughout the weekend. cases of flu are also on the rise. blayne alexander is outside the cdc in atlanta with more on the serious concerns for parents.

>> reporter: the cdc is warning flu cases are on the rise across much of the country including here in the south. now experts say the concern is we're seeing more cases earlier in the season than we typically do and that could mean a long winter ahead. >> because of the last two years with state at home and virtual activities many children have not been exposed leaving our youngest ones with the highest vulnerability. >> reporter: your best defense is to get the flu shot and latest covid booster. only 5% of eligible americans have gotten the latest covid booster shot. laura, back to you. >> thanks, blayne. moving you forward stanford university lifting its covid-19 masking requirements for students in the classroom starting today but individual instructors require to you wear the masks in the class. some students told us they have mixed feelings about the change.

now to a live look at palisades tahoe ski resort. it is almost time to hit the slopes. the sierra mountains got some snow. they got about an inch and a half of know. about a month away from opening day. it's just lovely out there. meteorologist kari hall joins us now. >> the first flakes of the season and there is more in the distant forecast. it won't be in the next few days but as we get a look at one of our models it does show as we head towards sunday into monday there could be some more snowflakes in parts of the sierra and we could see anywhere from about 3 to 11 inches of snow so it looks great to start out our season with at least a little bit of snow heading into november.

we've reported he has told investors he will lay off most employees. twitter insiders say the really good ones are already leaving. a lot of foreign news affecting the markets today. shares of chinese companies like alibaba trading on american markets are poised to move much lower after the news the head of the chinese communist party xi jinping will serve another term. with his power solidified investors worry he may crack down on some of china's moves towards capitalism even as china's economy slows. so that's one country, and then there's great britain. the uk's economic outlook downgraded to negative by moody's. you remember the country's shortest serving prime minister announced she was resigning after the markets and the pound plunged all because of her economic policies, policies that never even took effect. now rishi sunak, the country's former treasurer, warned over

and over truss' economic policies would be a disaster. he warned his party not to appoint her. now it looks like he is going to be the next prime minister. truss' economic plan had its roots in something called supply side economics or trickle-down economics. most economists say it does not work. kansas tried it once and nearly bankrupted itself. so this weekend a clip of a former trump economic adviser, larry kudlow, praising trickle-down economics saying the republicans should try it here was passed around a lot on social media. >> well, the new british prime minister, liz truss, has laid out a terrific supply side economic growth plan which looks a lot like the basic trust of kevin mccarthy's commitment to america's plan. let's start with truss. she is slashing tax rates and deregulating energy. i just love it. that's the liberal business media.
