ahead in washington as candidates continue to fight for every vote across the country this is "today in the bay" streaming live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv and online. it's tuesday morning. a good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. a look at that forecast. we are starting out with cool temperatures but not as cool as yesterday. we're in the upper 50s and a breezy wind out of the south at about 10 miles per hour here. some clouds throughout the next several hours but then turning mostly sunny as we go into late morning into the afternoon. a high of about 73 degrees. overall a slightly cooler day. with san jose hitting 68 degrees, we'll see some mid-60s into san francisco.

we have even more cooler weather in the forecast. i'll have more on that coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, kari. i want to get back to that breaking news coming out of san firefighters respond to go a three-alarm fire. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell just arrived on scene. what are you learning, bob? >> reporter: good morning to you. we know there were five people inside this house behind me here. again, we're not far from the intersection of 680 to give you perspective in the foothill area of san jose. four people did get out. two were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the family did tell the fire department there's a fifth person upstairs in the home and they have been looking. the fire department has been looking for that person. they have not found that individual as of right now. it was not a child. they did not say who the person

was in relation to the family. the family said there was someone still inside. the fire started around 3:30 when the fire department arrived. the downstairs was fully engulfed on the first floor and they are still fighting this fire. they called for three alarms because of the extent of damage. a firefighter on the roof who accidentally fell off the roof onto the ground was also taken to the hospital. here is that captain we spoke with earlier. >> these are difficult calls that require a lot of teamwork and is a stressful situation. >> reporter: the man who fell off the roof taken to the hospital with minor injuries. four people were in the home, five were in the home, four got out, two taken to the hospital. they're still looking for the fifth person. have not found them.

bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks for the latest details, bob. in just a few hours oakland police chief leronne armstrong and his plan to combat gun violence. he announced the department is adding eight officers to the investigation unit and started deploying more officers around the city. the deaths are still higher than prepandemic levels. we'll bring you updates on air live and on nbcbayarea.com. new details on the investigation into an attack of an armed robbery against an elderly asian woman in san francisco. police say those suspects are three 12-year-old girls. this happened as the 79-year-old woman got off a muni bus in the mission district on saturday afternoon. there is no evidence of a hate crime right now, but this

incident also points to another troubling trend in the city. police say they are seeing more juvenile suspects and violent crimes. this comes as mayor london breed announcing she will expand its community ambassador program from 250 right now to 400. the ambassadors are men and women placed in key areas across the city. they don't carry weapons and can't detain suspects but they can communicate with officers. >> it's about partnership and working together to make san francisco a safer place for all of us. >> sfpd is having a tough time attracting new officers even though it offers more than $100,000 per year in pay and benefits for the new recruits. the city could vote on a measure soon to increase starting officer pay even more in hopes of attracting even more recruits. the countdown to election day is on with just 14 days to go. a decision voters make at the ballot box will affect locals

passed by the board of supervisors but has signaled that she is onboard this time. take a live look outside. downtown san jose getting us started with a cold start for you. how will the rest of the day shape up? to meteorologist kari hall. she has the answers to that for us. kari, will we ditch the coats later today? >> you may not. you may want to keep it on. it will be a cooler day as we are seeing some of the fog rolling across parmts of the bay and also cooling down the temperatures in san francisco. let's head to the south bay. with sunshine and a breezy wind, yes, you may want to keep that jacket on or at least some light long sleeves. antioch reaching 75. 66 the high in hayward and 63 in half moon bay. palo alto a high of 68 degrees there. the north bay temperatures reach 71 in sonoma and napa and 69 in

ukiah. even cooler tomorrow. we'll talk more about that in a few minutes. mike, where can we find lower gas prices? santa clara county looking good. in san jose the arco, and i've heard from a number of people, $4.88 a gallon. i heard that as early as a couple hours ago. alameda county costco, $4.89. that's not bad. costco really is dominant throughout alameda county. tougher in san francisco county. $5.29. it's the best we can do. most are closer to $5.50. a smooth flow of traffic for all of our counties. one report came in to chp and the surface street no problem. the sensors are still looking green. hopefully there's no follow-up and that was a mistake looking

a wrongway driver in the north bay looked like it cleared safely on highway 12. good morning. a very happy tuesday to you. we are on a roll on the markets. another big day on monday. alphabet, microsoft, spotify report profits today. lyft, i'll get to them in just a second. the what'sapp owned by meta was down for a few hours overnight. chances are you didn't even notice. it's huge around the globe. millions of people in india use it for daily communication. it was missed. meta not saying why it went offline but only that it's fixed. one of the biggest investors led by this man is telling mark zuckerberg less metaverse, more layoffs. in an open letter said meta has drifted into the land of excess.

too many people, too many ideas, too little urgency. meta needs to get its mojo back. lyft is down 80% from its ipo. john zimmer said lyft made the right decision sticking to moving people around and not getting involved in the food delivery business. the days of the $30 salad can't last. not unheard of for a price of delivered food. we saw this with the last financial crisis. fancy coffee, $30 salads. they go first in an economic slowdown. one guy who can afford a $30

salad is rishi sunak, the soon to be prime minister of britain. his wife and he are worth $810 million which if you do the math in a certain way makes them richer than king charles. there are three steps that led to sunak's wealth. he graduated s.t.e.m. he gets involved in goldman sachs and then married a really rich woman. her dad invented the company infosys. he is one of the richest men in the world. that's his daughter, his father-in-law. >> and now he's prime minister. >> the youngest. >> and that's a way to impress your father-in-law.
