burglary, and several other additional felonies. >> nbc news correspondent jake ward joins us now from san francisco.ome details about the police response from that press conference. what do we know? >> reporter: well, kate at this hour, we know at this hour that we began this -- that the ins incident began at 2:27, when they responded to a call here, the home of nancy and paul pelosi. these -- the officers responded and found the attacker in the room with paul pelosi. there was a struggle over a hammer and then in front of the officers mr. pelosi was struck. at that point they tackled assailant and he and mr. pelosi were both treated for their injuries. mr. pelosi was taken to zuckerberg hospital. that is the big general hospital here in san francisco, it is the big trauma center. but the extent of his injuries are not clear as of yet.

what we have heard from sources close to the investigation is that this does seem to have been a targeted attack. this does not seem to have simply been a random break-in. the attacker seems to have known this was the home of nancy pelosi and they'll be looking closely at his motivations. >> speaking of, jake, do we know much at all about the suspect at this point? >> reporter: david depape, 42-year-old man, is supposedly connected to an address in berkeley, california, across the water from where i'm standing. we don't know a lot more about him than that, other than what he has on social media, which is a of conspiracy theories of all stripes. we have been reviewing his social media ever since his name was released and he does seem to have had a presence and it was full of political conspiracy theories. whether that is in fact a motivation here, we just don't know yet. but certainly that's what officers are going to be looking at as the investigation goes forward. >> that's interesting.
12:04 pm
jake, there is no protocol for members of congress. since speaker pelosi wasn't with her husband, do we know if there was any security there? >> reporter: that's the thing. because she was not here, the normal capital police surrounding team was not here at the home. if he had attempted this with her here, there would have actually been security presence in the home. as it is, there is not actual presence of -- connected to the families of members of congress, only the actual members themselves. so because she was away, that presence was not here. we do know a new program because of deepening threats to members of congress has given them about $10,000 with which to harden a home like this, install security systems, reinforing doors, whatever they choose to spend it on, but there is no additional physical security presence for the family members themselves. that said, we have seen investigators not just from the

san francisco police department, but from the federal bureau of investigation, and the capital police, both going in and out of this home and canvassing the neighborhood. >> jake ward for us in san francisco. jake, thank you. we're also following breaking news out of pittsburgh today. police say six people were hurt in a shooting earlier today in the brighton heights neighborhood. this happened outside a funeral service. one person in critical condition now. police are still looking for a suspect at this hour. >> elon musk now officially owns twitter and the new boss is wasting no time, kicking off a series of shake-ups at the top. >> cnbc sources say the platform top executives left the company. let's bring in nbc news senior reporter ben collins, he covers online disinformation and extremism. ben, i'll start by asking you, what is musk saying now about
12:06 pm
this takeover that he's now executed and how are folks on twitter responding? >> they're debating what to do with content moderation. his whole thing has been free speech, everybody's opinions on the site. he said couple of minutes ago there is going to be some sort of content moderation panels, that's not the full free speech thing he was talking about. also something that facebook already has. they have a supreme court for big decisions there. so that's his day one thing is content moderation. big thing is trying to get in his eyes people from the right back on the platform. >> on the other hand, you have people who are really concerned if you loosen the rules about content moderation, there could be disinformation, hate speech. so how does he draw that line and do we know what is your sense of what -- how that's going to play out? >> it is really complicated. if he wants to keep advertisers, he can't do this free for all thing that he months ago
12:07 pm
proposed. so that's the -- that's the thing for him. if he wants to make money off this, it is important he has some guardrails. but it is his company. he has spent $44 billion on this thing. so it is the largest purchase of his life. he can do whatever he wants with it. if keeping advertisers not his priority, then it could really fall fast. >> also said he wants to make it bigger and bigger too. >> if you build it, will the people come. if you change it, will people stay? ben collins, thank you. pediatric hospitals across america are reaching total capacity, concerns over the triple virus threat, flu, covid and the respiratory virus rsf. 76% of hospital beds for kids are in use right now. 76%.
