have fog and drizzle out ahead of the main line of the cold front that will bring us a decent amount of rain later into the next few hours. as we get a closer look we can see that we have seen light showers in parts of the north bay. but some of the heavier rain is going to be arriving by 8:00 to 9:00. some of the green shows heavier rain and gets really heavy as you see some of the yellows and reds here and it's moving through spots like napa and santa rosa. at 9:00 this morning when more people are up, out and about, we're going to see also that rain moving into san francisco. approaching the east bay with some gusty winds and moving into the south bay around noon but continuing into 2:00 while the north bay gets a bit of a break. we're going to be tracking all of this and talk about how much rain you can expect coming up in a few minutes. you are seeing some slower driving out of contra costa county, mike. some that have was because of the light rain. you talk about the mist, a

precursor to the light rain coming this morning. the lens had enough water on it, we couldn't see clearly. they wiped the lens. you would need the wipers. you see it starting to develop out of richmond. as the traffic builds, more traffic through the east bay, the bigger issue, the other slowdown is because of the crash that has one lane blocked but still the backup continues out of lafayette and walnut creek heading to wilder road. there's no need for an alternate unless you are considering b.a.r.t. moving smoothly through the area. that is a slower drive from 24. the rest of the bay standard. back to you. >> thanks, mike. we are following breaking news out of houston this morning where a triple shooting at a bowling alley has left one person dead. two others were sent to the hospital and right now police are not confirming the identities of the victims but told nbc affiliate kprc two of those members are of the hip-hop group migos. also we're told the shooting happened during a private party. we are awaiting an update on who

was actually shot from police. breaking right now in chicago at least 13 people, including 3 children, have been injured in an overnight drive-by shooting. at least one of the victims was also struck by a vehicle. officials have not determined a motive. no one is in custody. police are offering a $15,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest. also developing right now the man accused of murdering a well-known oakland dentist set to appear before a judge. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live this morning. we've been hearing about this, more about what police are calling now a murder-for-hire case. >> reporter: well, good morning to you, marcus and laura. investigators say the poetive was money, specifically the $12 million to $14 million in the victim's name. you'll recall this past august lili xu was a well-rarpded dentist in oakland. she was shot and killed in oakland's little saigon. a surveillance camera captured the crime. she was in the black sedan

driven by her boyfriend. the video shows the suspected shooter pulling up in a white sedan, runs out and shoots xu three times. last week police arrested her longtime boyfriend nelson chia and the alleged hitman in connection to the murder. chia was plotting to kill xu and live off her estate worth $12 million to $14 million. chia died by suicide in jail this past friday. hasheem bason will be arraigned later today. according to documents, chia agreed to pay bason a significant amount of money to murder xu. both planned the date, time and location of the hit. bason allegedly waited in a car a block away and ambushed xu when chia pulled over to the side of the road. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> bob, thank you. 6:04, decision 2022, hard to believe we're one week away from election day. and if you want to request a replacement vote by mail ballot, it must be postmarked by today.

>> meanwhile campaigning coast to coast now being clouded by the violent attack in nancy pelosi's home. drew petrimoulx is live this morning. you have a closer look at the impact felt on the campaign trail. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, marcus and laura. campaigns are in that final push crisscrossing states, calling in some big names to help. this brutal attack has led to renewed calls for a tone down in the rhetoric. disturbing details about the vicious attack on the husband of a top democratic party official. according to a new federal complaint david depape told investigators he was going to hold nancy hostage and talk to her. nancy is speaker of the house nancy pelosi, second in line to the presidency. depape allegedly telling investigators if nancy were to tell depape the truth, he would let her go, and if she lied, he was going to break her kneecaps. the speaker wasn't home. instead depape found her

82-year-old husband, paul. at one point striking him in the head with a hammer just as police arrived. >> we believe that he did intend to kill mr. pelosi at the time that he wielded that hammer in that attack. >> reporter: the suspect's mental state being evaluated his digital footprint is under the microscope. a blog published under his name includes mixed ideology with conspiracy theories and anti-semitic postings. >> we have to do everything we can to lower the rhetoric. >> reporter: key races are neck and neck. both sides calling in heavy hitters to help sway the undecided. >> this could be really close on election night and perhaps beyond. >> reporter: from georgia to arizona and pennsylvania to nevada the political world watching key races that will determine which party controls congress for the next two years. in a statement released last night speaker pelosi thanking

the thousands who have reached out to express their concern over the attack adding that her husband is making steady progress in what will be a long recovery. reporting from washington, i'm drew petrimoulx, back to you. >> drew, thank you. 6:06 right now. a bombshell announcement from outgoing santa clara sheriff laurie smith who announced her retirement in the midst of the ongoing civil trial. she was due to leave office in january after not running for a seventh term. she's awaiting a verdict in her trial. her political team insists the timing of the announcement has nothing to do with protecting her pension. smith served in the sheriff's office for nearly 50 years although her last term has been marred by gun permits for political contribution scandal. undersheriff ken binder will be in charge through the end of the year. following the latest record regarding former sheriff laurie smith. to find the latest information head to nbcbayarea.com and head

to our most read section on our home page. out in san jose as we get started with the day, something a lot of people have been hoping for and now a lot of people talking about, the rain coming into the bay area. meteorologist kari hall tracking when we can expect to see it in our parts of the area. it's great as we're welcoming in november, we're also going to welcome in some rain. big changes ahead as this cold front comes in. and right now we still have time to find the umbrella as well as some sweaters, too, and make sure the car is ready for these changes. we are going to see scattered showers starting to come in by about 8:00 to 9:00. but right now just light showers here and there as the cloud cover continues to increase. for the east bay in spots like pleasant hill as your head to work, if you're leaving soon you are pretty much going to continue to see dry weather, cool temperatures with mid-50s. if you're leaving later in the morning or out running errands at 10:00 we'll start to seep the showers moving in getting

heavier and temperatures also getting slightly cooler. it's only going to reach into the upper 50s and low 60s. kind of feeling like winter as this rain comes in and we'll talk more about the impacts in just a few minutes. mike, as they're stopping at the gas station, hey, check everything in the car. but where are those prices a little bit lower? >> you have to fill up so you don't get stranded in case it happens with the rain n. san hope say the battle continues for the arcos. santa clara county's best, san jose at $4.68. contra costa county, concord, super stop in concord. willow pass road. $4.47, the best price on the board. san francisco as you get to 280 $4.89 a gallon. looking at a smooth drive, the rain hasn't set in but there are damper roadways as we have mist and drizzle.
