heavy hitters to get voters to the polls. live in washington with a closer look at how all that star power is playing out on the campaign trail. wage and benefits dispute, the new call from san francisco teachers after what they claim has been almost a full year of problems and the district's latest spoons. latest response. you can see some of the lights from the camera sparkling. will we be seeing more rain? meteorologist kari hall when wet weather returns again this is "today in the bay" streaming live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv and online. here we go, wednesday morning. it's 5:00 right now. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we want to tell you about a small earthquake that hit the south bay this morning. maybe you felt that. it was a 2.8 quake that hit east of san jose, around 4:12 near the same area that 5.1 hit last tuesday.

this follows several of those aftershocks. you can see it on the seismograph. now to meteorologist kari hall. she has been tracking the chance for rain. it was so great to see the rain coming through yesterday and in some spots it's still continuing this morning but the roads may be wet as you head out. there may be puddles here and there. as we take a look at overall what's happening here a spotty shower or two as we go into the 6:00 or 7:00 hour and at times it may be heavy for just a few minutes before it moves on. you do want to keep that umbrella close by for that chance that you do still encounter rain. most of us will be clearing out but could be another round of showers especially in the north bay going into this evening. while we get rain the sierra getting additional snow, looks good with the possibility of an additional three to seven

inches. we'll talk more about this and what's ahead coming up. mike, you've been watching the impacts on the roads. you will have some slick roadways as kari said, more spotty rain coming through. the green shows areas where our road weather index says there was enough that it may be slick on 680 through danville. there is a crash in the north bay at highway 29, just east of jameson canyon road. they've closed the intersection but i think folks are getting by on the shoulder. very early for most of your commute. getting out here this important roadway, vasco, moves smoothly. the altamont pass, your typical build. the same thing for the rest of the bay. no major surprises. back over to you. six days now until the midtermlect eions and both parties are leaning heavily on some political star power to get voters to the polls. the list includes president

get the oil industry to clean up its act. to pass laws to make housing more affordable. >> reporter: former republican vice president mike pence stumping in georgia. former president donald trump will hold a rally in the sunshine state on sunday. both parties deploying heavy hitters to states that will determine control in congress. five are currently held by republicans, five by democrats. >> if republicans get one of the wins, there's one state for democrats that looms above all the others just in terms of being a ripe target. it's pennsylvania. >> reporter: polls have democratic lieutenant governor john fetterman holding on to a slim lead against the republican, dr. mehmet oz. nevada may flip a seat with a new poll showing a dead heat. it's the economy, crime, abortion rights and threats to democracy driving voters like

tony figuero to the polls. >> it seems with inflation the goal seems more out of reach day by day. >> reporter: in your eyes it's democracy that's at stake, no? >> yes, it is. it is the truth versus lies and when you have a binary situation, that's when you have a problem, when violence to a voting democracy. >> reporter: candidates trying to convince voters they have a plan to address these issues hoping to tip the election in their favor in the final days of the campaign. >> reporter: saturday is shaping up to be a big day in the final push. president biden and former presidents trump and obama scheduled to be campaigning in pennsylvania on the same day. reporting from washington, i'm drew petrimoulx. back to you. a suspect is due in corporate today connected to a stabbing that injured a teenager in the north bay.

it happened on the campus of a novato elementary school. the 16-year-old victim suffered serious injuries. a second teenager was assaulted. police yesterday announced the arrest of five juveniles and one adult. the adult suspect is the one set to appear in court. they are not facing charges tied to the stabbing which police believe is gang related. happening today san francisco teachers plan to call out the district on persistent wage and benefits issues. a big snag prompted too teachers to protest. the teachers also claim the issues have in some cases extended to benefits being cut off. that issue will be front and center later today when teachers plan to rally outside of district headquarters. south bay residents struggling to make it in the bay with new calls to action. housing activists yesterday asked leaders in cupertino to settle on a new housing plan. they are concerned about a new

state policy that would lead to big change and how new housing developments are approved in coupler tino. they say if city leaders cannot get on the same page by next february, the city may lose control of the process. >> we don't think anyone in cupertino is aware of the issue. and so we're here to just be respectful but also let the city council know we're frustrated and would like to see more action. >> activists say cupertino and palo alto are the two south bay cities to formulate their new housing plans.
