a four day, or like beatles eight day a week? it feels like that sometimes. >> at 6:00, three presidents hitting the campaign trail with the election day now six days out. we're live in washington with the last-minute push to win over voters. wage and benefits dispute. the new call from teachers after what they claim has been almost a full year of problems and the district's latest response. and let's take a live look outside at the golden gate bridge and you can see the lights are sparkling. the question is will we see more rain? meteorologist kari hall keeping track of when the wet weather may return to the bay area. this is "today in the bay" streaming live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv and online. it is a wednesday morning, hump day, almost to the end of the workweek. >> we are working our way there. 6:00 right now. did you feel this? we were in the newsroom and we didn't, but maybe you felt it.

another earthquake rattling the south bay. 2.8 quake east of san jose very close to the same area where a 5.1 quake hit last tuesday. the seven trees area. this aftershock was the strongest of several. it hit at about 4:12 this morning. our seismograph caught the shaking. some people actually responded on twitter saying they heard the windows rattling a little bit. no reports of damage or injury. >> we will keep you updated. >> we are here bright and early, 4:30 to 7:00 and that includes our own meteorologist kari hall. she has been busy tracking this rain we've been getting. it's great. it is great to see and is still falling in some spots. we're seeing the rain come down in pleasanton and dublin. some of the other rain over the east bay hills and the rest of the bay area still seeing the

wet roads and the puddles left after the wet weather moved through yesterday. this system is still spinning bringing you some active conditions. even the potential of more rain throughout the morning as we head through 8:00 to 9:00, still lingering showers. most of us will have a chance to dry out. we could see some rain moving through. mike, you are updating a serious crash in san jose. >> that slowing for 101 but this major crash is right here. that's where the report is, a lot of the activity is west of almaden expressway. just learned from the san jose police department the pedestrian that was hit actually succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, so this is a deadly crash. the person in the car stayed at the scene so the investigation

continues and, of course, we follow that. this has been an issue, a topic for san jose. a pretty smooth build. >> we have talked about that quite a bit in san jose. six days away until the midterm election and parties are leaning heavily on public star power. the list includes president biden, former president obama and trump and former vice president pence in hopes of building up until next tuesday. drew petrimoulx's live for us in washington this morning. drew, some of these races could make or break the balance of power. >> reporter: good morning, marcus. the polls show neck and neck races in some of the key battles across the country and in the final push some big names to make the final pitch to voters. overnight two of the democratic party's most recognizable faces

the others just in terms of being a ripe target. it's pennsylvania. >> reporter: in the keystone state polls have democratic lieutenant governor john fetterman holding on to a slim lead against the republican dr. mehmet oz. a new poll shows a dead heat in nevada. on the issues it's the economy, crime, abortion rights and threats to democracy driving voters like tony figuero to the polls. >> i've been saving up for my own place for years now. it seems with inflation that goal seems more out of reach day by day. >> reporter: in your eyes it's democracy at stake, no? >> yes, it is. it is the truth versus lies and when you have a binary situation that's when you have a problem when violence is in democracy. >> reporter: they have a plan to address these issues hoping to tip the election in their favor in the final days of the campaign.

saturday will be a big day. president biden and former presidents obama and trump scheduled to be in pennsylvania campaigning on the same day. reporting from washington, i'm drew petrimoulx, back to you. >> very influential in their parties, too. thank you, drew. 6:06. new developments this morning in the stabbing that injured a teenager in the north bay. one of the suspects is due in court. the stabbing happened after hours on the an elementary school. a second teenager was assaulted. police announcing the arrest of five juveniles and one adult. the adult suspect is the one set to appear in court and they are not facing charges tied to the stabbing which police believe is gang related. san francisco teachers plan to call out the district on persistent wage and benefit

issues. the problem started earlier this year when a big snag prompted teachers to protest. even the district admits the payroll problems are ongoing. the teachers claim the issues have in some cases extended to benefits cut off. teachers plan to rally outside of district headquarters. folks are struggling to make it in the bay. housing activists yesterday asked leaders in cupertino to settle on a new housing plan. they are concerned about a new state policy. they say that if city leaders do not get on the same page the city may lose control of the process. >> we don't think anyone in cupertino is aware of the issue and so we're here to just be respectful but also let the city council know we're frustrated

and would like to see more action. >> those activists are saying cupertino and palo alto are the last two south bay cities to formulate their new affordable housing plans. 6:07. the latest reminder seismic activity extends out into the pacific ocean. a 6.0 earthquake struck at 10:00 last night, 750 miles off the coast of san francisco. if it was stronger it could have triggered a tsunami. >> they quickly told everyone this was small and too far off the coast. >> and so we didn't have any issues which was good news. as we look at the activity that happens out there in the pacific, we call it the ring of fire and this is where we have all of these plates meeting up and we see the world's largest earthquakes happening in the ring of fire. it is an active region. all of the energy moving away from the earthquake into some of

the coastal areas. so, of course, we're always ready for that as we are now tracking a system of a different kind. we are seeing some rain moving through, scattered showers do continue this morning as you get ready to head out and we'll continue to see in some spots some wet weather over the next several hours. so we'll talk more about that and what's ahead in a few minutes. mike has a look at where we can find lower gas prices. >> getting more variety in san jose today costco wins with $4.59. san leandro is national gas over in alameda county on washington avenue, $4.79. the arco■ on redwood highway, a great value. we're looking at a pretty smooth drive around the bay. the major issue is the deadly crash now as we look down towards san jose.

that will slow the economy down. but still lots of evidence the economy is doing just fine. there are still twice as many jobs available than americans to fill them. did the see the phillies game? the astros were there but didn't really show up. the first since 2008. several economists pointing out when the world series before the worldwide economic crisis, the phillies won in 1980 they won and there was a recession and the philadelphia athletics won in '29, the year of the great depression. the phillies seem to bring a bad economy. this is video of elon musk testifying in 2014. some in washington talking about bringing musk back to talk about the foreign money he borrowed and partnered up with to buy twitter. yesterday he tweeted you'll be

able to buy a blue checkmark. power to the people, he said on twitter, using a bad word in the process. if you pay up your posts will be prioritized meaning those who have and spend money will have their speech elevated on twitter. musk has a tendency of coming up with ideas and then people say, well, hold on a minute. we'll see how that happens. i almost feel bad for the guy because this is just a bear trap. it loses him money. >> he makes his own decisions. >> he does. >> he doesn't have a boss, per se. win or lose for him, he likes the attention. >> oh, he loves the attention. >> it will cost you. >> part of me doesn't even want to anymore.

>> i can't not talk about him because he makes major news. thank you, scott. around 100 million americans may use tiktok but the head of the ftc is recommended the app be banned. commissioner carr fears the chinese government can access user data. a federal committee is reviewing the potential national security implications but tiktok maintains it source u.s. data outside of china to avoid the chance of turning over any information to the chinese government. >> whether it will be allowed to survive in the u.s. at all. they could all mean big changes for the company. >> ahead on the "today" show how tiktok's parent company is

had about .2 of an inch. for oakland almost more than half an inch there. we were very close in san francisco as well as san jose and mill valley .3. there may be additional rainfall in palo alto, a quarter inch of rain. it is great to see but now behind that cold front these temperatures are dropping. frosty conditions in some of our valleys in the north bay with santa rosa down to 36 degrees. you head to the east bay as we get started but then take a look at our high temperatures today. most of us stay in the 50s. a few spots in the low 60s. it's just moving through the tri-valley right now. elsewhere we are just getting some lighter showers and also the snow is still coming down in the sierra. to the north some rain sliding down the coast and we'll have a chance of seeing some of that spotty activity as we go into today.
