tv and online. here we go, monday morning getting you started with the workweek. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. it's wet out there. you have to slow it down because of the rain. vianey is in for kari this morning. we had that initial cold front move through overnight, so this morning we're seeing the wet pavement. we still have a very active weather pattern to go. we're not in the clear just yet. we're taking a little bit of a break but you can see the big storm is in the pacific northwest. that will track later into tonight and early tuesday morning as well. if i zoom this in closer you can see some of that rain that passed through overnight. a break in san jose and san francisco. you can see the majority of thi well. we do have a winter storm warning that went into effect as of last night and just to give you an idea of things we're

monitoring heading into this afternoon, a little bit of a break into mid morning and then the chance for thunder and hail and gusty winds. this will lead to a heavy rain of night into early tuesday morning as well which could lead to run-off and today will be your time to prepare for the biggest impacts. i know mike inouye will have your back when it comes to the morning commute. i will report what's going on on the roadways. all the freeways around the bay, 880 moves slowly. dealing with lighter traffic as well. the dixon landing off ramp, just got the word it's clear.

we'll see that as the rain has traveled through especially in the east san jose hills. that's not a major issue. san jose, may be an issue driving through the area. on the shoulder as you get over into sunnyvale and crash 24 and lafayette looks like everything is on the shoulder. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. more than nine months after alexis gabe was murdered, she disappeared on january 29th after visiting her ex-boyfriend, marshall curtis jones, in antioch. investigators believe jones killed gabe but he was shot and killed by officers when they tried to arrest him. volunteers have spent hundreds of hours searching for her body. police on thursday say someone in amador county discovered

possibly gabe's remains. jones traveled to the area after gabe was reported missing. the oakland police department will be giving an update at 11:00 a.m. the latest updates during our midday newscast. just days after massive job cuts at san francisco-based twitter, facebook, parent company meta, is reportedly planning large-scale layoffs that could come down as soon as wednesday. "today in the bay's" marianne favro on why the company may be slashing those jobs. >> reporter: meta based in menlo park is poised to lay off thousands of employees this week. according to "the wall street journal." it would be the first major cuts in the company's 18-year history. last months meta ceo mark zuckerberg hinted at the layoffs during an earnings call when he said, quote, in 2023 we're going to focus our investments on a small number of high-priority growth areas.

that means some teams will grow meaningfully but most other teams will stay flat or shrink over the next year. one problem is zuckerberg invested $10 billion in the metaverse concept which is still in its early stages and not bringing in major revenue. >> i think he's realized his broader vision is not going to pay off in the short term. and he's going to have to regroup in the context of what projects he's going to put money into. and that will bring money into the company faster. >> reporter: earnings are bleak. meta is the worst performer this year with shares down roughly 73% over the past year. san jose state tech expert ahmed banafa says recent changes at apple also impacted meta's bottom line. >> when apple implemented this monitoring, facebook is

following you, that trimmed a lot of income from advertising. >> reporter: the expected layoffs at meta came just days after twitter laid off roughly half of its 7,500 workers including nearly 900 employees in the bay area. >> the big picture here, the tech companies are preparing for the worst. there will be some kind of a recession in 2023. a lot about the election two days from now, see which direction it will go. >> reporter: for the bay area tech sector, the anticipated layoffs are yet another concerning question mark about the future. marianne favro, "today in the bay." a reversal from twitter one day after starting the layoffs they had there. twitter's blue check rule, they want to talk about that subscription service. the company will wait to launch twitter blue until after the

election. that moves comes after criticism allowing anyone to bly the blue verification check mark. it has been for celebrities, politicians and the new twitter owner elon musk says by offering verification to anyone he's giving, quote, power to the people. happening today a livermore father will answer to the death of his 1-year-old daughter from a fentanyl overdose. justin pittman was arrested last wednesday. his daughter died in august after police responded to the family's home because the child was not breathing. police say he admitted to using fentanyl but they had to wait more than two months for a toxicology report because this is before they made an arrest. decision 2022 and the countdown to tomorrow's big election. around the bay area more and more people are voting by male. one elections leader says only about 10% of the ballots will be cast by machine.
