were outside oracle park tonight. and there could be more as we head into the workweek. rob mayeda tracking it all for us. >> we've been watching some of the shower through the day. right now by definition, this is what an isolated shower looks like, moving past palo alto, heading up toward fremont and eventually toward the sunol grade. not a lot showing up on radar, but that will likely change as we head into your morning commute and give you a closer look. look at all these lightning strikes showing up offshore. that's what's going to be moving over the bay area as we move throughout morning commute. notice how the showers are expected to be more widespread, especially from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. moving to the north bay, crossing over the santa cruz mountains, which means you could see some brief down pours at times. fast moving, but it could have a

high impact depending on which roadways you're on. most of the east bay roads seeing the showers and more scattered showers as we move into monday afternoon, and it's going to be this way for a while. ongoing through about tuesday, then patchy frost setting up again for inland valleys. and then starting thursday, all the way through next weekend, daily chances of rain. we'll see how much rain that means for your seven-day forecast and the timing of those storms ahead coming up in a few minutes. the rain causing some headaches along highway 1 near big sur. this rock slide is still there. both lanes are closed. cal trans had hoped to clear it and reopen the road today, but it's still closed. and cal trans isn't sure when it will reopen. this rain means lots of snow up

to fall. they could fall under $4 a gallon in the coming weeks. here's a look at bay area averages today according to aaa. san jose $4.80 for a gallon of regular, down 75 cents from this time last month. oakland is down 73 cents. and in san francisco, prices are still the highest there. $4.88. but, that's down 77 cents from last month. prices are dropping, but some are concerned they'll spike again like they did earlier this year. governor newsom is trying to prevent that from happening. tomorrow he is holding a special session with lawmakers to talk specifically about gas prices. >> reporter: gas prices under $4.50 a gallon. what will governor newsom do?

is sticking to its original plan of reducing production. it says it will not change plans to reduce oil production by 2 million barrels a day until the end of next year. this comes as the eu is planning to ban all imports of russian seaborne oil. the kremlin previously warned that any attempt to put a price cap on russian oil will cause more harm than good. oil prices have fallen to below $90 per barrel. we're learning more about the truck driver killed on 880. the truck driver was contracted to deliver mail for the postal service. it happened early yesterday morning. two cars racing down the freeway. one car hit the truck, rolled over and caught fire. the driver of the car that caused the crash was picked up

debacle last month. the lawsuit cites the ticket sale disaster on november 15 and 16. i'm thinking some of our viewers know all about this. the site crashed, causing ticketmaster to can tell the public ticket sales due to insufficient remaining ticket inventory. the lawsuit claims they exclusively forced them to use their site knowing there would not be enough inventory for the general ticket sale. celebrating diversity in art and culture wrapped up a weekend of free admission at 21 san francisco museums. it was thanks to a generous donation from anonymous donors. more than 60,000 tickets were reserved. you can see plenty of people were there. check it out, the exhibition. >> there were many people in the bay area who thought, ah, i want to go see the asian art museum,

during the day today and your seven-day forecast looking about like december. it's a nice night out in san jose. christmas in the park downtow, 52. overnight temperatures will drop back into the 30s. that will include san jose. right now, 51 degrees in dublin. over to san rafael, 48 degrees. right now 52 in san francisco. we're expecting the bands of showers to head right on through. you may be driving without any rain and drive right into a downpour for five to ten minutes and drive out of it. that's likely the way the morning commute will go. temperatures into the 40s. moving forward, there is a

chance we could see isolated thunderstorms. the best chance near the coast, probably up toward the north bay and solano county inland. right now there's not a whole lot to see on the radar. a little shower activity near fremont. but offshore, things are interesting. lightning strikes here, too. this is the unsettled weather that's going to be heading our way for the morning commute right there at 7:00 a.m. you see how that band passes through the bay area. a chance of these roaming downpours off and on at times for the morning commute, might catch a break as we head through the afternoon. but tuesday morning, more of these showers of about the system starts to move out. over the next two days, these areas in green covering most of the bay area, a quarter to half inch of rain spread out over the next 48 hours. for the sierra, you saw the snow there. another foot of snow coming down between now and about 5:00 on tuesday. so notice the progression of our morning temperatures, low 30s,

gifts under the tree, but you don't want them to go up in smoke. so firefighters are making the annual reminder, avoid having a tree that is too dry. they become a fire danger. firefighters in new york did this. giving a demonstration of how quickly a dried-out christmas tree can burn. in addition to adding a fresh cut to the bottom of the tree, keep a close eye on lights and decorations. >> many times we're using extension cords, holiday lights, holiday decorations. make sure that the devices and those cords are not frayed, not damaged. >> another tip is to look for a freshly-cut tree by checking the leaves. make sure they aren't too drive. small local businesses in san francisco's mission district are paying it forward. today they hosted a toy drive for kids in the community. businesses partnered with the street violence intervention program to host the second annual event. looks like a party to me. more than 500 presents were

news. i'm terry mcsweeney, gia has the night off. and we investigate a new hitch in the battle of cleaning up radiation. levels are known where homes are set to be built. but some say the results can't be trusted. jaxon van derbeken has the exclusive story. >> reporter: this 40-acre piece of land behind me is to become the center piece of the development of the hunter's point naval shipyard, parcel g where a top-secret nuclear lab once stood. >> i would not, these residents have anybody living out here. >> reporter: environmental activist ray tompkins served on an advisory panel for the cleanup project in 2011 when the navy declared no further radiological action was needed on parcel g. >> we were skeptical on the

methodology and what was being presented, that they didn't give us all the data, they're still working on it. >> reporter: but after whistle-blowers accused the soil-testing company of faking some of the result, the epa called 97% of the survey units into question. that was in late 2017. the testing firm tetra tech is now being sued bit u.s. government. it maintains it did nothing wrong and stands by its results. still the navy ordered more testing which last year picked up higher than allowed levels of strontium 90. >> it's a bone-seeking radioactive chemical. and once it gets into the bone, it stays there and turns over very slowly. and continues to give off radioactivity. >> reporter: that can cause cancer, says james dahlgren, a medical doctor who specializes

in environmental toxicology. the strontium was in the paint. and it could be left around here where radioactive waste was diluted and poured down sinks and also nearby worships were returning from the pacific and sandblasted. but the levels were questioned from the retesting it ordered, saying it planned to improve the process to improve quality. and a warning reads as if the navy is suppressing data results it doesn't like in regards to stropt yum 90 data. still, one year later, the navy dismissed the strontium levels as unreliable. >> everybody who's reviewed this data can agree that that's not a reliable result, that there's too much noise. >> reporter: liz roddy then

griffith park pony rides are coming to an end. families can't believe they're ending. but animal rights activists have been protesting these pony rides for more than a year, accusing the ponies of being mistreated on the owner's watch. >> we need to not have pony rides, because it's teaching children the wrong lesson, that these ponies are carnival equipment, and they're not. >> the owner of the park denies the accusation. the inspection report found working conditions to be satisfactory, but the report did say there were many legal issues and medical violations that needed to be addressed. it's not clear if the report had anything to do with the decision to end the pony rides. the owner says he's looking for new homes for the moneys. last summer, the bay area saw a large and sudden dieoff of fish blamed on an algae broom

well, this week all eyes will be on georgia, the state's contentious senate runoff will be decided. they've already set new records for early voting in the contest between rafael warnock and herschel walker. more than 1.85 million georgiaens have voted early, and that includes some who did not turn out for the general election. democrats are outpacing republicans by a margin of 52-39%. lady luck gets the final vote to break a tie. andrew butt and cesar cepeda are tied, dead tied. according to a resolution, in the event of a tie, they place

right now it's very nice to be outside. only 52 degree, not too cold in san jose. similar temperature, exactly the same, 52 currently in san francisco. as we move forward into tomorrow morning we begin the day in the 40s, not too cold, as we've got the clouds, scattered showers, we'll have to watch for the chance for these roaming downpours. as we head to noon, sunshine, showers tapering off there's a chance we could have isolated thunderstorms, even though the radar right now is pretty quiet. what has our attention is what's offshore here along the north coast. that will continue to move southward. you notice how things pick up. 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and right into the sunshine at times, a few isolated showers.

if you look at the forecast, the upper half of the low pressure drops to the south. as we head into tuesday evening. if you want to find the driest part of the forecast, looks like tuesday night into wednesday, it sets us up for chilly morning, and beginning thursday evening into friday, the first of three rain chances ahead. thursday night into friday comes round one. notice the path of these storms, cold which could mean sierra snow. and then there's more in the forecast as we head into the next seven to ten days. every two to three days we have rain chances coming in. want to bring you up to date on the bay area rain totals. now take a look at the expectations of the next seven days of rainfall. in whoa. >> what you see there on the map would be the missing three to four inches of rain for places like santa rosa. this is an encouraging forecast.

starting quarterback to a season-ending injury. first it was trey lance, now jimmy garoppalo. jimmy g was hurt in the niners' first drive of the game. garoppalo is sacked by jerome baker and jailen phillips. he's hurt. he hurts his left foot on the play right there. can you see that. that's not good. after being examined, he was carted from the sideline to the locker room. he will have season-ending surgery in the coming days. this is a huge blow for a niners team that is really one of the hottest teams in the nfl right now. >> you always hurt for guys with injuries. when it's a quarterback for your team it affect it is more. it affects guys a little more. you look at it as the way we're built to win. jimmy's a hell of a player, and like i said last week, we were so fortunate to have him here. but we need everybody. we got to make sure to step it up in all these areas not having jimmy. >> you can hear the emotion in his voice. now to the game.
