the world's largest active volcano has been erupting for two weeks now, but officials believe it could end soon, downgrading mauna loa's alert level from a warning to a watch. it is spectacular. the new alert level reflects the limited hazard associated with the current activity. >> for comparison, this is video of the volcano on the big island yesterday. the lava flow reduced to just smoke. they are continuing to monitor the volcano for any changes to activity. here in northern california, nothing, i was going to say nothing that spectacular, but it

making some, like, man-made snow there? >> yes. >> okay, i feel better about myself now. i'm seeing it everywhere now. i saw it in the east foothills. >> it was real. the inland mountain ranges typically have the better chance for the snow. the air's dryer and colder away from the ocean. and we have another chance tonight as we take you to christmas in the park in san jose. you really have to have the christmas spirit to be there. they got wind. not too many folks out there right now. 46 in dublin, 47 in san jose. there you go, golden gate bridge, we did have heavier rain earlier. now 48 degrees. the rain starting to head to the east bay. let's take you on a tour. you see the snow again. out here the higher peaks south

of livermore. i think there will be an increasing chance of that after midnight tonight, and more rain in the santa cruz mountains moving on through from san mateo over to hayward and castro valley, approaching the tri valley again into walnut creek, vallejo. fairfield, you've got the rein. clear lake, lake county seeing a lot of snow. now colder, drier air's going to come on down. that's going to help shut down the showers, but it will also temporarily bring our snow levels down a little bit more as we head into tomorrow morning. most of this will begin to wind down around 3:00 a.m., except around mt. diablo, mt. hamilton. just like that, 8:00 in the morning, things dry out and clear setting the stage for very chilly temperatures moving forward. even tomorrow, back into the low 40s and 40s. high temperatures from lunchtime to mid afternoon staying cool. mostly in the low 50s with

sunshine. locations, i think will drop in the upper 20s and 30s. bay side may be cold enough for patchy frost and unfortunately, now, doesn't look like we're going to see any rain chances from midweek and beyond, as we head toward next weekend, that storm that's offshore is going to weaken on approach right now as it approaches california. so the trend is actually drier in the seven-day forecast, and certainly colder as we head toward the middle part of the week. it's not too often that even the san francisco temperatures could get close to the upper 30s wednesday morning. so right now the freeze watches are only up for the north bay valleys, but we may see that expand wednesday, thursday, perhaps, as well, and then temperatures rebound a little bit as we head towards next weekend. a big weekend for rain and sierra snow. but catching a bit of a break. anthony flores with a story
