with just eight days to go until christmas and hanukkah starting tomorrow night and the must know shipping deadlines. a look at how king charles first 100 days are going and if he will heal the rift that exploded between princes harry and william. and the top story is the winter storm that just won't quit. it is finally on the way out. it is not going quietly. now we are learning another storm may impact christmas. >> somara theodore is keeping an eye on all of it. it is cause for concern. >> a lot of buzz around the storm. a lot of uncertainty. let me tell you what we know right now. we are looking at two models for this. the timing is thursday and friday which means it could impact holiday travel. this is the european model. the storm tracks from the great plains and through the great lakes. look how far south that gets

friday morning with the european model bringing it to alabama and kentucky and tennessee. the storm continues to drive to the east coast bringing heavy rain to the mid-atlantic and carolinas and upstate new york. here is the gfs model or the american model. we see the shift farther east. 700 miles east. this is a different story. from thursday to friday, that could bring snow up the i-95 corridor to new england on friday afternoon and christmas eve. there is a big difference. not a lot of consensus among the models. that leaves a lot to be determined. it is something to put on the radar in case you are traveling thursday or friday on the east coast. we have our eye on this system. we are continuing to track that threat for snow in parts of the adirondacks. they could see 1 to 2 feet of snow. here is a look at the snowfall forecast totals. you see right there that

kristen. the charges must be unanimous. committee members say they are confident they have enough evidence to make this unprecedented decision. this morning, all eyes on the january 6th committee as the year and a half long investigation comes to a close. members using the weekend to complete a lengthy report of findings and recommendations released on monday. included in the recommendations? potential criminal referrals to the justice department for former president trump over his role in the attack on the capitol. members deciding on charges of insurrection and conspiracy to defraud the federal government. >> we have been careful in crafting the recommendations and tethering them to the facts we uncovered. >> reporter: all three charges are possible, three sources actively involved in the panel deliberations tell nbc news a final call has not been made.

holidays and long awaited gatherings with family and friends, officials are bracing for the possibility of a dire situation with flu and covid cases rising and hospitals just overwhelmed. this as the u.s. marks 100 million covid cases since the pandemic began nearly three years ago. nbc's national correspondent miguel almaguer has more. >> reporter: medical centers nationwide and hospitals are in need of a lifeline. rsv and covid and flu, tripledemic, conveconverging. >> we have been over 100% capacity in the hospital. we just physically do not have enough beds for all of the patients we need to care for. >> reporter: as hospitals struggle, the cdc says flu infections are declining in some areas. still out pacing last year's

that? >> peter, cdc came out with information in some areas flu is declining a little bit. at the same time, the warning was flu has not given up. flu cases will keep increasing. like miguel said the death rate and hospitalization rate is highest in ten years. you have to remember the tripledemic happening with covid and rsv as well. if you look at what happens, last winter, starting after the holidays, we start having that surge in covid cases. didn't come down until mid-february. we are at the beginning of what could be worsening of all three cases here. hopefully things go in the trajectory of covid and rsv plateauing or coming down. sorry. flu and rsv. covid, we hope doesn't have the same reaction from last year. i think we will see a surge in covid after the holidays because

of our gatherings and travel are two big things causing that. >> dr. torres, let's follow-up on the concern of the surge and the fact this is happening as families are gathering across the country for the holidays. i guess the question for folks is should they do anything differently this holiday season or is it okay to get back to normal? >> i think the main thing you should do differently is try to get back to normal and get with your family and loved ones this holiday season. we haven't been able to do that the last couple years. now is the time to do that with safety in mind. for those who are vulnerable, hopefully you have been vaccinated for flu and covid. that offers the best protection. at the same time, masking is the other tool we have that can really help protect us from getting it. if you are in an environment with vulnerable and elderly, immunocompromised. take precautions.

ventilation is a see. key. open windows. have fun this holiday season and take the simple precautions to help yourself and everybody else out. >> dr. torres, there was one survey that struck us. this is the kaiser foundation. 28% of americans surveyed last summer were against the mmr vaccine requirements. measles, mumps and rhubella. americans opinions of vaccines have changed with covid. what are the implications of that? >> it is disheartening. this is increasing through the pandemic. we knew it was an issue before. now we see measles outbreaks in ohio because of low levels of mmr vaccine. where will this go going forward? the pandemic has polarized the resistance to getting the vaccines because of misinformation and disinformation.

both of those adding to the problem here. as this continues to go on for children who are vulnerable to the diseases. this is a public health issue. none of us likes to go in and get a shot. the needle in the arm. we know it is healthy for us. at experts around the world and doctors, especially here in the u.s., they are vaccinating and vaccinating their families. if that doesn't tell you how important we think it is, i don't know what else to say other than the facts behind the vaccines. vaccines have side effects, but the side effects from the diseases and death rates are higher without the vaccines. >> we will need your help the next few weeks. we hope you stay healthy. thank you for your time. >> thank you. >> you can get back to normal, but do it safely. appreciate that insight. let's get another check of the forecast with somara. >> we need to wear our coats out there. take a look at the temperatures

good morning, thanks for joining us on this saturday, december 17th. i'm kira klapper. we are following breaking news. many of you might have felt it overnight, a 3.6 earthquake striking near el cerrito. it happened around 3:40 this morning. we heard reports across the bay area of people waking up because of the shaking. also confirmed by a usgas report. take a look at all these tweets. so far no reports of any injuries nor damage at this time. meteorologist vianey arana is here with more on the jolt it sent throughout the bay area this morning. >> that scary jolt did happen

along the hayward falls. just to give you an overall picture of where that fault line lies, all of these lines represent six of the other major fault lines throughout the bay area, the san andreas fault, if i zoom this in closer it was initially being reported as a 4.0. has been downgrade to a 3.6 with a depth of about 4 miles. that is considered a shallow earthquake, anything from 0 to 70 kilometers. it happened around 3:39 this morning. the hayward fault runs about 117 kilometers through richmond all the way down, you know, through the east san francisco east bay, and here's some of the areas that felt it all the way down through parts of monterey, in through oakland, up through santa rosa as well. the hayward fault is one of our most active faults in the bay area, and also, i want to kind of guide you through the last

many of you might have felt two hours ago a 3.6 earthquake striking near el cerrito. it happened around 3:40 this morning. we heard reports across the bay area of people waking up to the shaking. also confirmed by usgs reports. take a look at all these tweets including our own marcus washington. so far no reports of any injuries or damage at this time. meteorologist vianey arana is here with more on the jolts it sent through the bay area this morning. vianey. >> good morning, i do want to give folks the perspective of the significance of the hayward fault and why it's so important that we keep a close eye on this. so notice this red line that you see here, it just kind of depicts where that fault line lies. now, the reason it could potentially be one of the most dangerous faults according to seismologists is because it runs directly through a heavy populated area. we're talking oakland, fremont, hayward, all the way down through milpitas. so when it comes to location,

it's definitely running right through major cities where there are over 2 million people. now, as far as the magnitude, it was a 3.6 registered by the usgs with a depth of about 4 miles. that is considered a shallow earthquake. shallow earthquakes anywhere from 0 to 70 miles. as far as the history and where it was felt when it comes to the hayward fault, it was felt as far as up to some parts of santa rosa into the majority of the east bay and some parts through the south bay. the hayward fault is considered to be one of the most active and the most dangerous. and here's a closer look at some of the history surrounding it. the last major earthquake that happened was october 21st, 1886. 30 people were killed, and this was known as the great san francisco earthquake until 1906 when the san andreas happened, and that was a 7.9 magnitude

we are following breaking news many of you might have felt earlier this morning, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake striking near el cerrito. it happened around 3:40. we heard reports across the bay area of people waking up because of the shaking. we also have confirmed reports by the usgs, and take a look at all these tweets including our own marcus washington. so far no reports of injuries nor damage. meteorologist vianey arana is here with more on the jolt it sent through the bay area this morning. vianey. >> good morning, kira. this happened along the hayward fault, so to paint the picture here, these lines indicate some of our largest faults across the bay area. you could see the san andreas fault here, and the greenville fault. here is the hayward fault. this is considered possibly within of the most dangerous fault lines in the region for the reason being is that it runs through the heart of the east bay. so we're talking from the east by a down through fremont, all the way to milpitas. now, usgs right now is reporting

this as a 3.6 with a depth of 4 miles. that is considered a shallow earthquake, anything from 0 to 70 miles is considered shallow. as far as who felt it, well, you saw the reports on twitter and this is the shake intensity map. it was considered light to moderate based on this index scale that you see here, all the way from no shaking to extreme. some of the areas up through parts of the north bay down through even parts of the south bay as well were felt. that hayward fault is connected to the san andreas fault line system, and it is considered to be one of the most dangerous as i mentioned because it runs directly under a heavily populated area. the last major earthquake that we had along the hayward fault happened on october 21st, 1868 and that was a magnitude 6.8. 30 people were killed. what we're monitoring for now is going to be the possibility of after shocks, which could happen anywhere from immediately after to the span of several days after an earthquake initially
