police looking for two people involved in a shooting near a b.a.r.t. station. happened about 4:00 this afternoon on the street-level plaza. one person was shot. paramedics rushed that person to the hospital. we don't have word on how they're doing. trains rolled through the station without stopping, while service has finally been restored to normal. >> a final farewell to jackie speier. held her last public event in redwood city today. of holiday shopping is done online especially on sites like amazon. but amazon is experiencing a rise in fake reviews this holiday season. we explain how it happens. >> reporter: as you hunt for holiday bargains. make sure you don't fall prey to fake reviews. richard blumenthal says according to fake spot, there are hundreds of millions of them, 42%. >> almost half of all those reviews you see on amazon are fake and false. >> reporter: senator blunl thaul showed an example. >> if is a letter to the purchaser of these ear buds, offering a $15 gift card. $15. for a favorable review. >> reporter: blumenthal wrote to amazon saying that while it's taken steps to curb these false reviews, it's abundantically clear the company is not doing enough.

and as a result of the covid-19 pandemic the practice has become more rampant. the company says they proactively stopped more than 200 million suspected fake reviews. however, the business of brokering fake reviews remains an industry-wide problem. the policy prohibits abuse, including things like gift cards for incentives. look for information about a product from a variety of sources. watch for a sudden burst of reviews. that can be a telltale sign of fraud. and remember that a negative review could also be fake to harm a competitor. if you spot a fake review, amazon says you should use the "report" link on a product page so they can investigate. take a look. this cute mailbox here isn't

chilly conditions, 45 degrees. let's take to you dublin, 37 dogues, tri valley, one of the areas in the dense fog advisory. you see the fog settling in to san rafael. san francisco, 47. hazy skies that you saw during the day. high pressure trapping the smoke pollution during the day. there's not enough winds to push it out. so we do have a spare the air alert for wood smoke pollution. another hazy day after the fog starts to clear around midday. hopefully with the shower chances we'll get better air quality tuesday and wednesday. we've already dropped less than a mile around napa and concord. inland east bay for now, the areas in the dense fog advisory until 11:00 in the morning. don't be surprised if we see other areas of fog.

cold enough for patchy fog to start the morning. unlike today, it's very likely tomorrow that high temperatures around solano county, parts of the north bay and in towards inland contra costa counties, those areas may see highs only in the 40s tomorrow. warmest spots should be south of san jose with mid to upper 50s in reach. by tuesday you see what happens. more high-level clouds, a chance of a few hours. and that's likely to be the trend for midweek. best shower chances in the north bay. when we say shower chances, doesn't look like a whole lot on the map. best totals, north of san francisco. doesn't look like a quarter inch. and we may see another opportunity around friday. as you see here, a system on approach that will likely weaken as it crosses the bay area. so friday, another chance of

flu and covid hospitalizations have been going up since thanksgiving gatherings. now the white house is urging people to get their covid vaccines. they are facing covid, flu, and rsv for the first time. many people are likely more vulnerable to getting sick this year because they were not infected in the past two years, so their immunity is lower. nationally, the seven-day average of new covid cases is actually decreasing. as of wednesday, cases were down almost 3% compared to the week before. still with three different viruses circulating, some parents are finding it increasingly difficult to find acetaminophen, ibuprofen and other over-the-counter medications. >> we have covid, we have the flu and rsv. you put that all together and it's taking a real toll on the supply chain. >> senate majority leader schumer is calling on the fda to

investigate and consider actions to alleviate those shortages. nbc news has learned that the january 6 select committee met today to finalize criminal rivals for former president trump. a source familiar with the plans tells nbc that at the public meeting tomorrow the committee will recommend mr. trump be charged with obstructing an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the government and inciting or assisting an insurrection. the committee also plans to refer several republican members of congress to the house ethics committee for ignoring subpoenas. when directly asked, chairman bennie thompson would not confirm any details. >> can i ask you if the committee is going to refer all five members of congress who defied their subpoenas to the ethics committee? >> uh, you're going to have to stay tuned for the hearing. >> what about the, what about other criminal referrals for trump and --

where you're afraid to go to school, it creates stress for the entire family. >> reporter: dr. ruiz is one of the doctors the investigative unit spoke to about another report about physician burnout and long waits for speciality care. over the course of our reporting, the county reached a deal with physicians to increase their pay, add staff and allow primary care doctors to see fewer patients. but they say it doesn't help their department because they're a speciality. these are for routine appointments. why do you think the situation is dire? >> when you're being referred to a pediatric gastroenterologist, there's something wrong. >> reporter: in some cases families aren't advocating enough, or they're missing a hospital notification. >> what if that family doesn't speak english? that adds a whole other barrier.

to where the airport reopened. they finally made it to peru's capital city of lima. many others had to take similar drastic action instead of waiting to be saved. >> reporter: most of the tourists have now been evacuated. some of the american tourists making their way out on foot. about 300 people aboard their evacuation train later stopped in its tracks, unable to pass. evacuees forced to walk around massive boulders. that's american brian vega, a captain in the miami-dead fire rescue who's been stuck at machu picchu for about a week. new york state native amy madden was stranded. in we walked 18 miles to the nearest house that we could possibly get a bus out of. so we got onto that bus. and we hit a roadblock.
