now. we are streaming live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv and online. >> good monday morning. i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia has the day off. >> i'm marcus washington. up to the commute in a minute. >> have my eyes on it. >> you'll need it in all the fog. the tulle fog after that heavy rain that moves through and now our temperatures are very close to freezing as well. so when we deal with the fog and very cold temperatures we have to watch out for ice. definitely some frost on the windshield as you get going, temperatures at 37 in san jose. 33 in palo alto. one of the colder spots this morning and fog is really dense around parts of the north bay down to about a quarter of a mile in santa rosa and napa, coming through the delta and the tri-valley. as we look at where we're headed for the day, some upper 50s for

this afternoon in san jose. we'll only reach 50 degrees in concord. temperatures will be kept down, so we'll talk more about what's ahead as we go throughout the week and, mike, hopefully the visibility improves soon. pockets of fog creeping down here, the dublin camera. looking at the map, the road weather conditions show you -- well, i showed you the live camera in dublin. we had fog registering 205 out of the altamont, patches of fog. valley how down to the water at the carquinez bridge. the north bay, other patches, your usual suspects as well as along the coast. the fog is the big issue. the speeds are moving smoothly and no major crashes. >> thanks, mike. new developments on a carjacking and chase in the east bay. officers arrested three of the

suspects. police were led on a wild pursuit from fremont to 680. this all started around 5:00 in a parking lot on stevenson boulevard in fremont near john f. kennedy high school. at least three people confronted a woman stealing her car. officers spotted it getting on 680. that's when the chase began. it ended when the suspects crashed into another vehicle in milpitas. a man in that second car was ejected. paramedics rushed him to the hospital. still no word on how he's doing. but police officers did arrest those three carjacking suspects. a live look at san francisco where the holiday shopping rush is on with just days to go until christmas. last night the city was packed with hundreds of people, some visitors gathering at union square celebrating the first night of hanukkah while others were out to see the square all lit up. city leaders are hopeful this is

something of a re-emergence after quiet pandemic years. as alyssa goard reports, they are hoping union square feels safer. >> reporter: it was a busy night in union square. the menorah lit up for the first night of hanukkah plus plenty of shoppers and families checking out the holiday lights. >> it's awesome. >> reporter: after a few years of more subdued holidays earlier on in the pandemic, it feels like the iconic square is coming back to life. >> i've never seen union square so crowded with people post pandemic. >> reporter: after a slew of organized retail thefts there last year the city has more officers patrolling in and around union square. he believes the turnout this season is proof efforts to deter thieves are working. >> it's prevented any of the

december 19th. that procedure the same as it's been before will be revived because the growing number of covid cases across the nation. the request for your tests are simple. go to the government's covid website, put in your information. each household is entitled to four free covid tests. >> i ordered mine. the january 6th committee is set to hold its final public presentation. the committee tully met yesterday to finalize the plans to issue criminal referrals for former president donald trump. a source familiar with the committee's plans says at their meeting today the committee will recommend that trump be charged with obstruct being an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the government and inciting an insurrection and plans to refer several republican members of the house ethics committee for ignoring subpoenas. it does not carry any official legal weight. it is up to the justice department.

nbc will have live coverage of the hearing this morning. you can watch that special report starting at 10:00 this morning. this morning even more changes at twitter hours after the social media giant banned users from promoting accounts on other major social media sites. the prohibition banished from its policy page. >> links were posted to accounts on other platforms following elon musk's takeover as ceo of twitter. now hours later musk tweeted this. quote, going forward there will be a vote for major policy changes. my apologies. won't happen again. and that led to this. musk asking, do you want me to step down as head of twitter? even put up a poll saying he will stick to the results. one of his polls led to former president trump's accounts to be reinstated and just the other night he actually lifted suspensions on accounts of several journalists. i want to give you a look at those results and you can see so

far 57.5% of people saying, yes. musk tweeted, quote, be careful what you wish for. he also responded to some tweets claiming he does not have a successor lined up if users vote for him to step down. of course we'll keep an eye on this and let you know what happens once the poll comes to an end. financial woes are hitting some people very hard as we approach the new year. ahead on "today in the bay," the reason many americans aren't feeling very optimistic about their financial situation heading into the new year.

good monday morning. right now at 4:40 as you're getting up and heading out in the south county, it is right near freezing in gilroy. 33 degrees and we're seeing some patches of fog. it will stay mostly cloudy throughout the morning in a very slow warm-up. we're having to stay bundled up. we'll take a look at more cold temperatures and the visibility coming up in a few minutes. and we're looking at san jose here 280 coming toward us. kari, talk about fog or patches around the bay. we're looking at low clouds at least and what i call soccer fog. you might see low lying clouds as well. that's what you're watching out for this morning. light traffic on 280. let's see what the world of business looks like with silvana. good morning. i'm silvana henao from cnbc. wall street is set to open higher as the markets are coming off their second straight week

of losses for the first time since september. investors are struggling to shake off fears about a recession next year and those fears are mounting after the federal reserve hiked interest rates last week and signaled rates could end up being higher for longer. in focus this week data on housing, consumer confidence, durable goods, inflation and gdp. ftx founder sam bankman-fried is agreeing to coming to the u.s. he has been in custody in the bahamas since the arrest monday. federal prosecutors have charged him with fraud and money laundering alleging he defrauded lenders and violated campaign finance rules. if bankman-fried is extradited, he would be expected to make a court appearance shortly thereafter. and americans aren't feeling all that positive about their financial situation heading into 2023. a new survey from bank rate

good morning, monday. take a live look at christmas in the park, looking nice and beautiful out there. you want to go out there today and see it? bundle up. it's cold. >> and it looks extra magical with the extra layer of fog over it. softens it up like a hallmark card. >> the glamour shot filter on there. it looks like that for some other areas you can hardly see anything. fog rolling through the east bay

as well as the north bay this morning. but, also, with the high pressure unhealthy air quality. it's a spare the air alert day for people who are sensitive to the pollutants and particulate matter in the north bay and santa clara valley. watching our air quality as well as the fog and it's very cold out there. no wood burning today but trying to stay warm and the temperatures are starting out in the upper 30s for our microclimates. we are seeing visibility in patches that really dropped quite low but at our airports at about three to four miles across parts of the east bay. in santa rosa right now down to about a quarter of a mile, so watching the viceability change. what we're seeing now is tulle fog in the central valley we really see that develop after the first big rain falls of the season. high humidity, cool temperatures and a calm wind and the high pressure it makes it really low

visibility as the air condenses and we see the fog difficultying through the mountain gaps into the south county and through parts of the tri-valley even into the delta especially as it then starts to drift into parts of the north bay so that's what we're seeing this morning and in those areas it's not going to clear out much so it keeps the temperatures down only in the 40s and low 50s in parts of the east bay, but away from the tulle fog, sunshine and temperatures in the upper 50s. then back to very cold temperatures this time tomorrow morning. asas we go through the forecast throughout the week slight rain chances and there will be some rain just to our north. scattered showers moving through but it looks to stay pretty active the next several days, at least a slight chance of rain and we'll see that on wednesday into thursday. the weekend is looking nice. we have christmas within view

and for san francisco we'll see temperatures in the 50s for the start of the week. and, mike, some flashing lights on the san mateo bridge. spotted those on the westbound commute side right where the box truck is. it cleared. a smooth drive in. i don't think any problems for the rig to get off the highway. there's no interruption as far as the green goes. in the san mateo hills there are crews that are potentially out there so watch out for any flashing lights. no closures reported but, again, crews will address whatever needs to be handled. they don't typically do that sunday into monday. that overnight until 5:00 the following morning. typical little build there and out of the north bay around american canyon that popped up on the road sensors, no problems as crews clear the cones from the northbound side. we do have temporary slowing as

welcome back. you are watching "today in the bay." a popular holiday train is making a stop in the south bay, and this is video from that home in los gatos. it's a life-sized replica of the engine from the popular children's book and movie "the polar express." the project began in november and the family that created it said it cost nearly $20,000. not only can you stem onto the train, but you can have an authentic experience from the movie's most popular scenes. >> it looks like the real thing. you can sit down, pretending you're having hot chocolate. they love it. >> the project almost didn't happen, though. it nearly got derailed by the
