roku, amazon, apple tv and online. that commute is coming up in just a bit. the forecast for you this morning nice and cold. >> it will start to warm up and that's the good news. we're seeing temperatures starting out once again in the mid to upper 30s. it is 37 right now in palo alto. it's 40 in free month. not as much widespread frost but you may have frost in parts of the north bay. then as we take a look at our temperatures headed for the low 60s, hayward, low 60s for much of the north bay. but take a look at the south county, one of the warmer spots, reaching 64 later this afternoon. we'll take a look ahead coming up. mike, you have a crash in san mateo county. i do, kari. a nice, smooth drive. 92, folks familiar with the area, right around 35.

skyline just off the intersection the car has gone down an embankment. sounds like a few feet but there are some injuries. heading west. the crash is reported on the eastbound side. critical with the closure. thanks, mike. we are continuing our coverage of the deadly earthquake up north. a 6.4 magnitude in humboldt county. >> this is a story we first brought you yesterday and now there are still major problems going on. the ground still shaking from those aftershocks. the original quake off the coast of ferndale is about 200 miles from san francisco. at least two people were killed and 11 others hurt. it cracked road and littered

them with debris. >> many are without heat and power. pg&e's outage map is widespread. at last check at least 14,000 people were without power. we have crews in humboldt county tracking the conditions and the damage caused by the earthquake and its aftershocks. "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd is there. >> reporter: crews are waiting for daylight to continue assessing the damage. meanwhile, people are doing everything they can to survive. margaret sager has no power, no lights, no water. she and her son are sitting in the car to charge up her electronic devices. still reeling from the early morning earthquake. >> i felt quite a few earthquakes in my life. this one wasn't as bad as 1992 but as far as the destruction that it did in my house, it was

worse. >> reporter: bad enough to rock homes off their foundations, disrupt power to 70,000 people and disconnect power to hundreds more. tonight tom tully was showing his daughter how to operate the generator. his mother has a lung condition, so electricity is her life line. >> the house, threw a bunch of stuff in a blender and kick it on, that's what the inside of the house looks like. when it hit, me and my wife ran through a pile of broken glass in the kitsch tone get to our daughter and get our son and i had to get my mom out of the back house. >> reporter: he showed us pictures, heavy furniture narrowly missing his wife's head while she slept. pg&e officials are working to get power back on to thousands of customers. >> we can't give exact times of restoration without understanding the depth of the damage and the repairs that need to be made but we're looking up

to a 24-hour window. >> reporter: this family is doing what they can to feed 12 children and 4 adults by campfire. >> we have a hot cocoa bar set up for the kids to put all kinds of good stuff on them. we have hot and cold water. >> reporter: that family is lucky to have running water. this is the holiday and everyone i talked to says they're not going to let this earthquake affect their christmas. in humboldt county, cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." there is one section of the county that did not lose power. the airport and the nearby coast guard station stayed up and running thanks to a micro power grid in arcata that allows them to run on batteries. >> to run in a sustainable format is how we need to go and this is a great example of how we can do it.

>> humboldt county is encouraging people to check gas and water lines for damage. power could be back on by 3:00 p.m. today. the world central kitchen is working to make sure those in need have a hot meal. they sent a team and are getting food trucks set up for meal service. >> they're coming to pick up water and distributing it out. multiple senior living facilities where they're sheltering in place, no water, no electricity and no food. >> world central kitchen started in 2010 in response to the earthquake in haiti. since then the group has provided meals for communities in crisis all around the world. the earthquake is a wake-up call for being prepared even with the my shake app they are urging you and your families to get ready to go when the big one hits. >> this is not time but, hey, the earthquake started, please drop, cover, hold on.

good wednesday morning. the time is 4:49 and we are already dealing with fog in parts of the north bay as we take a look at visibility down to a quarter of a mile in novato and half mile visibility in santa rosa. elsewhere much better. we are going to see at times the fog just drifting around to start out the day but it will clear up as our temperatures head for 60 in heyward, a high of about 62 in mountain view, los gatos and in san jose. 60 in napa as well as santa rosa. as we go into the day tomorrow it does come down a degree or two for some spots but still comfortably cool for us as we get ready for rain that most likely starts to move in late tomorrow night into early friday morning. it looks like it's in and out of here fairly quickly and not

everyone will see a good soaker here. and then beyond that we are looking at the storm system tracking further north. the weekend is looking dry. finally it looks like we'll have enough water to help out the lawn. we will see tuesday with some wet weather moving in a little bit of a break on wednesday but another round coming in on thursday. as far as what we'll see between the overnight hours of thursday into friday most of us getting about a tenth of an inch of rain or less. next week this is gist some runs of what it could look like for us. one to two, over 3 inches of rain for parts of the north bay before we enter into the new year. as far as the sierra it will be a light snow. next week we could see a couple
