6:07 am
we've asked the fbi and so far haven't received an answer. we can't ask twitter because twitter fired its entire team that answers journalists' questions. that's just some of the problem with the twitter files. journalists are revealing small segments of emails that date back years but we cannot show the original documents or contest only what they claim to show. this tweet from shore michael shellenberger hand-picked by musk to go over the twitter files. an email from an executive to someone else in the company noting the company's s.c.a.l.e. department, safety consent and law enforcement department, to ask agencies like the fbi to reimburse twitter for expenses as it cooperated with law
6:08 am
enforcement. again, there's no one answering questions at twitter but one way to understand this memo is twitter was getting so many inquiries it didn't have to answer. it started to charge money for the manpower. twitter generally didn't enforce the fee but that it eventually collected $3.4 million. add to that the pressure of the trust and safety said he was feeling from the fbi and some on the right feel between the money and the pressure there was some sort of government push to quash content on twitter. we know the fbi was tasked about russian efforts to post false information. the head of twitter safety saying he's, quote, not particularly comfortable with the fbi's questions about twitter content.
6:09 am
elon musk had a different interpretation of this money idea saying in a tweet the fbi paid twitter to censor information. what we have seen doesn't seem to support that. it billed the fbi for what it considers manpower. it didn't go viral or get media attention. part is the format. a lot of mainstream followers don't necessarily follow. it's 45-part tweets as opposed into an article. in many cases we covered the issues already. jack dorsey testified under oath about links blocked about hunter biden years ago. he said they blew it. now that very same subject

shares had fallen below $150. today they're below $140. tesla is now worth less than exxon mobil. if you're saying, wait, hold on, a small car company was worth more than one of the biggest car companies in the world? yes. tesla has a profit of about $3 billion, exxon $19 billion. price earnings ratio, the smaller number is better. tesla 42, exxon 8. for years tesla had magic dust because investors thought of tesla as a tech company. now they're starting to think of it as a car company. that's great. tech companies get higher valuations than manufacturing. investors worry tesla ceo elon musk is taking his eye off the ball by also serving as twitter
6:18 am
ceo. musk confirm he would step down as twitter ceo once he found a replacement but says he'll stay at twitter to run the software team. he announced new layoffs at twitter four days before christmas. getting laid off during the holidays is a bummer but more important to these workers is whether musk will honor their severance packages, both those promised and those required by law. there are several lawyers suing for him failing to do so. sam bankman-fried has agreed to be extradited to america. investors lost millions. he'll fly to america later this morning. congress working on an omnibus spending bill they have to pass before friday to keep the government open. it is full of things that have nothing to do with the budget including changes to retirement rules. if passed you'll be able to

withdraw $1,000 from your retirement without penalty for emergencies. and companies will be required to sign workers up for 401(k) and make them contribute 3% into the retirement. they would be able to opt out but it's a way of getting people into the 401(k) system, getting them used to the idea of setting aside their own money for retirement. again, you can opt out at some point. it's a way of getting it started. so many are underfunding their retirement. >> get it started at the very least. >> early. >> thanks, scott. >> you bet. a former white house pastry chef is revealing best tips ahead of the holiday meals. bill yossas served for two administrations. >> work with dough when it's cold.

6:21 am
around the bay area and it will be really nice later today. we are getting ready for scattered rain. a quick round of showers and then clearing out on friday. the rest of the weekend is looking good. we'll start to see the storm systems making it in with warm rain on tuesday. there will be another behind that. thursday night and friday maybe a tenth of an inch of rain for some spots. into next week it could be a lot more with the potential of 1 to 3 inches of rain. for the sierras, light snow showers before christmas. after christmas we could see a fairly big snowstorm headed that way with the potential up to 35 inches in total in kingvale.
