45 degrees in santa rosa and we'll have a cool start in our standards as we go into the next couple of hours and then today we're headed for 59 degrees in the north bay. temperatures reaching into the low 60s for the mid-valley and some low 60s up and down the peninsula. as we go into tomorrow it gets warmer with temperatures up to about 66 in san jose. sunday, christmas day is looking really nice and comfortable. the kids get their gifts, they can go out to the park and play. it will be really nice with a jacket on. it's going to be raining off and on throughout next week. waves of rain and sierra snows. the wind kicks up on tuesday.

union that contract talks did break down. a union president told us that workers want better pay. they won't budge on affordable health care, staffing levels and seniority. the union will begin a two-day strike at 9:00 this morning and they're asking shoppers to boycott macy's across the bay area. shoppers said they support the workers. >> i did not know that or i would have shopped somewhere else. >> reporter: union members met to reject the latest offer by an

overwhelming 93% majority they voted in favor of the two-day strike today. it starts again today at 9:00 a.m. we did reach out to macy's but macy's has not responded for comment. thom jensen, "today in the bay." >> thanks a lot, thom. five bay area counties are entering the cdc's high community virus tier. alameda, contra costa, san francisco, santa clara and solano, all of them moved up from the medium or yellow tier to the highest or yellow tier designated as red. the cdc recommends masking in indoor masking. the air we breathe is a big concern in the age of covid, flu and rsv. just like restaurants that receive letter grades, buildings are now receiving a seal of approval for indoor air quality.

all power restored in humboldt county where tuesday's earthquake caused widespread damage and outages. the usgs put out this animation showing how strong the earthquake was and it shook the area. you can see the ripple reaching the bay area. the worst was in the rio del area. water has also been restored but health leaders are urging people to boil it until they can do tests. the earthquake killed two people injuring 17 others. at least 60 homes have been deemed unsafe. 6:37. a live look at sfo. so far nearly 6,000 flights around the nation have been canceled. at sfo it's over 40.

participate of an investigation into tesla's self-driving system. nine people were injured including a child. the driver was reportedly using the self-driving software when that happened. the ntsb is looking into the role the autopilot play in at least 41 crashes which resulted in 19 deaths. we reached out to tesla for a comment but didn't hear back. we all know inflation is making it more expensive to feed our families and to make it in the bay. second harvest of silicon valley just putting out an eye opening look at how hard it is to stretch that dollar. on the left of your screen how much it could provide through a $25 donation last year. on the right what that same $25 donation would do this year.
