that massive wait on the line. >> good advice. thank you very much. in western new york where this morning the community is coming together digs out from the weekend's deadly snowstorm. officials in buffalo say the death toll is likely to climb as cleanup and rescue efforts continues. jesse kirsch is there. jesse, unbelievable images still. what's the latest? >> reporter: yeah, kristen, good morning. you can see we had snow down on some roads, and some other roads are improving. you can see there are still some roadways with snow churning under tires. there are others we have seen in better shape. at this point the travel ban is in effect in the city and officials are warning there are now military police who will be enforcing the rules on people getting in the way of cleanup. with rescues by snowmobile and enough snow to make plows useless buffalo's recovery is far from over as the death toll in western new york climbs to at least 34.

overnight. pope francis asking for the world's prayers for his predecessor. the vatican saying that the health of pope benedict who retired in 2013 has taken a turn for the worse. meagan fitzgerald has the very latest for us this morning. what do we know about his condition? >> reporter: good morning to you. overnight pope francis saying that former pope benedict is very sick. the vatican releasing a statement saying that he had sudden worsening of his health due to his age in recent hours. they said that his condition is under constant monitoring by doctors that are by his side and monitoring his condition very closely. keep in mind, you know, former pope benedict is 95 years old, struggling with his health, it's been deteriorating the last several years. we know that current pope francis had visited him several times over the last several years, most recently just this morning. we are talking about a former pope who really made history here. he was the first german pope to

november of the event became a race to save their lives just three miles in, 67-year-old greg gonzalez collapsed without warning. luckily running behind him was cardiologist steven lome. >> he had no pulse, wasn't breathing. >> a runner from the marathon was running and it looks like there is cpr this progress. >> reporter: dr. lome administered chest compressions until paramedics arrived, jump starting his heart and transporting him to a hospital knowing he was in good hands, he decided to finish the race once you saw the finish line, it must have been a leave, until -- >> well, yes i crossed the finish line and then i heard somebody say, i think we need some help over here i looked over to the side and there was another runner down, laying on the ground. >> reporter: you have to be kidding me. >> that's what i thought for a brief moment. >> cardiac arrest at the finish

line. >> reporter: only two hours after performing cpr dr. lome found himself on call once again. as 56-year-old michael heilman went down after finishing the race. >> he had a head wound, completely unresponsive, not breathing, no pulse. so i said, okay, let's do it again. >> reporter: in minutes a race volunteer rushed a defibrillator to michael's side and dr. lome delivered a live-saving shock to his heart. they have never met each other and they haven't seen dr. lome since he saved their lives it's all about to happen right now. >> so good to see you. so glad you are doing well. >> thanks. >> reporter: these two men, strangers to each other, were about to meet the doctor whose heroic actions bonded them. >> great so see you both you look great.

we start with a sponge you would want to take flour, a little bit of yeast and some water. just mix that together, really let it -- mix it together just until it comes together. from there cover it with plastic wrap let it rest for about four hours, just to get that yeast going. then we are going to mix our dough. so we have that sponge we had resting for four hours in the bottom add salt, yeast, a few eggs, more water. >> what kind of flour? does it matter >> we use two types here we have regular all-purpose and pastry flour that gives you a tender, super delicious cinnamon roll. without it you might have something a little bit too tough or too soft. we want to make sure when we are mixing it we let it fully mix before adding the soft butter. it's like an enriched doe, with the eggs, butter. >> soft butter is important? >> yes, it makes these super soft, flaky and so - >> they are not like hard on the

edges. they are like little pillows. >> which is exactly what we want thank you. then we get over to our dough. we will let it rest. >> peter is using a fork on a cinnamon roll. >> it's messy. i get it. >> i was trying to be, you know. >> so you put your soft butter down. >> then put softened butter down this dough needs to be chilled that way, once it's nice and chilled, a lot easier to roll. >> i can tell. that's nice. it actually goes on smoothly the roll is key? >> yes and it's really important to make sure that if you don't have time to let this chill overnight, that's totally fine >> teaching welker how to cook is miracle work. >> it really is. this is may new year's resolution, by the way let's get to the roll. >> once you roll it up, make sure it has a nice tight center. you want to make sure it's really tight. >> okay.
