the rain is definitely filling up our local reservoirs. this is one near san martin in santa clara county, which almost overflowed at the height of the storm on saturday. valley water says the reservoir gained more than 15 feet that day and is at 103% capacity. the lexington reservoir rose 6 1/2 feet over the weekend. for some perspective, lexington was at about 35% capacity on december 1st. saturday night it was up to 44% according to valley water. sunday it was up to 55%. here along the alameda creek in fremont, bob redell, "nbc bay area news." >> the oakland zoo will be closed for at least the next two week because of the damage. you can see the ten-foot gap that formed during the worst of the storm. this is on the road leading up to the zoo's entrance and this is caused by a culvert that collapsed with rapid erosion. with more rain due this week, people are holding their breath. >> we have another atmospheric

republicans have a slim majority current house minority leader kevin mccarthy wants the speaker's gavel but it facing strong resistance from members of his own party joining us like, ally raffa. how's he trying to win them over >> reporter: tom, right now between 5 and 10 house gop members who could oppose mccarthy tomorrow in this make or break speaker's election. so today he's been really working the phones trying to solidify as much support as he can, because he knows this is going to come down to a tricky numbers game remember, with the gop's narrow majority in the house he can only afford to lose four house gop members' support and still reach that magic number of 218 to win the spikership. ri speakership. making concessions to far-right members of his party in exchange for support. these are concessions mccarthy

12:40 pm
backup, if mccarthy isn't able to do this as as a matter of fact he said he doesn't plan to drop out and said he would never be willing to drop out of this race but a possible sort of runner-up we could see would be house gop whip steve scalise the congressman from louisiana he after all has said he's a loyal mccarthy supporter that complicates things a little bit if he does become this front-runner tomorrow. if mccarthy isn't able to lock in that support. also complicating things is the fact that scalise is very closely aligned with mccarthy. so it's not even clear if scalise is the backup, if he's able to reach the number 218 to reach majority and lock this in. this is all raising stakes for the vote tomorrow. definitely going to be a wild ride when we see it all play out. >> ally rafa, thank you. and new rules to new, changes to rooms around retirement saving and wlan it
