family up in san bruno this morning. >> that's right. emma gosk is out in san bruno where a big tree came down, chainsaws behind her. and the best news, emma, nobody hurt. all right. it looks like her live shot is breaking up there a little bit. no doubt due to some of the high winds and stormy conditions that we have. but behind her there, you can see the tree that came down on this house and a car. the good news here is that no one was injured. >> if you're just joining us, we have special coverage of all of this flooding and rain, something that has become rather routine at this point. in morgan hill, we have a lot of flooding. bailey avenue is closed, the san lorenzo river at flood stage, as well. so cal creek has reach what they call the action stage. this is in the felton grove area. these are mandatory evacuations. >> that's right. and take a look at some of these areas there where cars completely submerged in water.
8:48 am
all of that water rushing now into homes. people have been evacuating these areas for quite some time. hopefully, they're heading to higher ground or actually, lower ground. maybe the santa cruz fairgrounds, cabrillo college is in an evacuation center being set up right now, and hopefully people are getting, you know, to a safer place. this is just some of the flooding that you're seeing in the south bay right now. >> we're talking about school. this is nordstrom elementary, we just saw a little clip of a young person walking to school, but, you know, stay out of these floodwaters, that doesn't look dangerous, but it certainly can be, particularly for a small child. >> that's a park that is right next to nordstrom, right on dunn avenue there. it kind of acts as a flood plane, and that's exactly what it's intended for. you can see how fulls is. >> as a dad, i can tell you, that would be tempting for children. and of course, we're thinking of the unhoused, they've been warned to stay away from
8:49 am
guadalupe creek. >> reporter bob redell was out there this morning, and rapidly, we're seeing that river rise since last week, since last thursday, new san jose mayor matt mayhem had declared a state of emergency. they were going down with loud speakers, teaming up with the police department, trying to get most of the unhoused out of this area. they were working on that last week, they had some people that wanted to stay, they didn't want to leave and have been trying to move them out of this area as this river is cresting very dangerous conditions there. >> kari said it was at minor flood stage and cresting at 9.6 feet. and of course, she has some of these storm totals. and some of these crests will come later, right, kari? >> that's right. some parts of the bay area will continue to see that water coming down and causing those rivers and creeks to continue to rise, even beyond when the rainfall is happening at its heaviest. now, we're looking at how much rain has fallen in the past couple of days, and well,
8:50 am
oakland has measured over 2 inches of rainfall, but of course, the stunner has been the santa cruz mountains getting nearly 7 inches of rainfall and just in this short amount of time. but all of that has also moved across the santa cruz mountains through san martin. even some of our low-lying areas are getting some of this really impressive rainfall. it's coming into already saturated ground. we've gotten over 3.5 inches of rainfall, and over 4 inches of rainfall for santa rosa. but the good thing is we've seen the rain lightening up for parts of the north bay, but it does continue as we look at san francisco, now getting a break, but for san mateo counties, santa cruz mountains, parts of the east bay, we're still seeing that rain coming down and a lot of our computer models have showed the rain at this point, where it is right now, just stalling out for the next several hours. so we're going to continue to see these areas that are getting rain right now see the biggest of the impacts with this system. and it's over toward the east

bay, as we're seeing the darker shades of green over towards eastern contra costa county, as well as the tri-valley, markets of really heavy rain moving through there. and it is a little bit lighter for san jose, but it is still pouring to the south. these storms are developing, they're lining up in the pacific. we have a lot more of this energy that has to work through our area, before we catch a break. and there are some brief breaks in there, going into this evening, for the commute, it looks much better than what we were seeing right now. and going into early tomorrow morning, the next storm will be arriving, most likely before a lot of people get up, but we're going to be awakened early, as we are starting our show at 4:00 tomorrow morning, we're going to have a lot of heavy rain, even potentially some more thunderstorms, as we get this off and on rain and all of this energy moving through. and so, let's go around the bay area. take a look at some of our live cameras and the current conditions. as we mentioned, with san francisco, there is a bit of a
8:52 am
break here. the rain was very heavy earlier this morning, but now it's looking a lot better. but still very sloppy, as you're coming through 580 and dublin. and for the south bay, now getting the brunt of this storm, it is definitely low visibility and also, you may be hitting some puddles, so it could be very dangerous for driving out there within the next couple of hours. back to you. >> kari, thank you. >> and i'm just getting this on twitter this morning, near santa cruz. the fire department there is responding to valencia for a landslide with an occupied car buried in that slide. we're getting some really concerning rescues going on. >> and the catadi park school district just announced no school. we're continuing to follow the latest online. we're going to stay on for a little bit longer. we're staying on for a little

bit longer. follow each of us individually on twitter, because we're trying to get out as much current information as we can, even while we're on air. >> mike inouye joins us again. a lot of roads closed and where they're not, just go slow. >> exactly, exactly. chp, they're passing on the reports as they come in, as you can imagine, a lot of folks are calling into their systems, as more and more folks are hitting the roads today. the latest coming in, we have a report of just off of 238, as you're traveling past hesperian, another report of a number of lanes being flooded out. watch for the area coming out of castro valley and heading to and from 880, that's a critical castro valley "y" we talked about. you know, in that vicinity, we continue with the closure for 84 as well. that's niles canyon, the windy part that goes alongside the canyon and the train tracks and folks familiar with the tray of lights, that's kind of the area we're talking about. and if you've been through the area, you know that windy, sort of hillside roadway is beautiful
8:54 am
when it's dry, not in conditions like this. wet conditions continue around the bay area, as we're looking to the north bay. highway 37, just past top of the screen also comes in with another closure, a couple of lanes flooded out around hanna ranch, 37, of course, is a critical connector between vallejo and novato. we'll zoom in here, talking about the tri-valley. i want you to note, it's also, look at mission boulevard, mission north here. because this is closed off and has been for days now, we're looking over here towards southbound 680 bulb folks who want to cut off of fremont, can do that along niles canyon. we've been warning about that and familiar with 680 over towards mission boulevard. you see mission north or state route 238 is seeing a lot more congestion, a lot more traffic flow, just be patient, you see this surface street, even though it's a state route and badged as a state route, we know there are
8:55 am
lots of houses in the area. over here is dublin, we're talking about the tri-valley and all of that blue that's puddling and ponding through the roadway. folks are able to go at speed, but we've had a number of reports throughout the morning of the solo car crashes, there were officially spinouts, but in either case, solo car crashes are oftentimes when cars may need a little bit of traction. that often plays a part into it. not officially reported as the cause of that crash. as we're looking over here towards the san mateo bridge, it's a very tough bridge. at times, you can hardly see the high rise. a lot more traffic coming over from the peninsula side as you see the slower drive, that's pretty unusual at this time of morning, eastbound 92 coming off of 101. we've been seeing these live shots show fluctuation between a relatively clear and calm and soupy conditions. remember, with those windshield
8:56 am
wipers moving. right now, was probably need that in many patches. i'm hearing that we have another tweet to come up and we'll show you some of the information. this comes from the santa cruz chp, i believe. this again is over off of graham hill in felton area, where we were talking about why we should avoid this particular intersection and intersections like this. we've talked about monterrey road being flooded out. using butterfield as an alternate in morgan hill. here in felton, you can avoid this intersection. look at how widespread that water is. it goes well past all the signals at that intersection. and chp is stationed here, but if you stay away from the water, they have to go help you out. they can watch out for people to avoid the situations like this. we'll send it right back over to you. >> that's what we're finding, some of the people that didn't evacuate in areas of santa cruz, now they're having to go back and rescue them. that really ties up personnel. i don't have to tell you, we're in this microclimate weather
