what a way to come in on a monday after a nice big win. >> that is nice, right, and early enough we could enjoy it. those night games are rough. >> or did we win? >> we did. thank you for watching. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia has the day off. what a beautiful weekend. it was nice to have the sunshine. it was windy and a little cool, but i think we'll take it over the rain. as we take a look at our temperatures right now, we're in the mid-40s now in san jose. 44 in livermore. yes, the winds are still kicking up. that definitely has an effect on what it feels like outside. here is a look at our high temperatures as we head for 60 degrees in oakland. we'll see a high of 59 in fremont, san jose, and concord in the upper 50s.

a live look at the state capitol where mourners will hold a vigil for the victims of this weekend's mass shooting in southern california. the asian pacific islander caucus is organizing the ceremony. >> in monterey park authorities are still trying to piece together why a deranged gunman opened firing during lunar new year celebrations killing ten people. >> reporter: a party inside a popular monterey park dancehall, a celebration for the start of the lunar new year. around 10:30 saturday night, shots fired. a witness inside says he heard about 20 rounds, a pause, and then the gunfire continued. he says after the second barrage of bullets, the music was still playing, but everyone was huddled on the floor.

>> reporter: from here the gunman identified as huu can tran, drove to alhambra to another dancehall where at least one, if not more people, wrestled away a weapon from tran and a white van was identified as his getaway vehicle. 10:30 sunday morning that van ended up miles away in torrance where local police officers alerted by the sheriff's department the van was connected to the shooting in monterey park attempted to make a traffic stop. >> as torrance officers pulled behind the vehicle, the white van entered a shopping center parking lot. when officers exited their

patrol vehicle to contact the occupant, they heard one gunshot. >> reporter: he says tran was found dead in the driver's seat from a self-inflicted gunshot. evidence collected in paper bags as part of the vegs, a handgun and other evidence the sheriff says confirming his connection to the two other locations. the lone suspect in the deaths of ten people, ten others injured. >> feel safe. you are no longer in danger because this shooter is gone. >> reporter: among those killed, five men and five women, the sheriff's department says they're in their 50s or 60s or maybe even older. as for the weapon that was taken from the suspect in the alhambra location, we are told that was a semiautomatic pistol with extended magazines and it is not legal to possess in california.

as for a motive, that is yet to be determined. following the bay area reaction, we'll have more in our 5:00 hour. we're always following the latest online at nbcbayarea.com. well, first, sharing new information about a cliff side rescue in san francisco. this happened yesterday at fort funston. this shows a team member rappelling down to reach those people. firefighters posted still images, both hikers were shaken but not seriously injured. you'll have to excuse the 49ers faithful now thinking about booking a last-minute trip to philly. that's where they will be playing the nfc championship give for that spot in the super bowl. >> now the niners notched that pivotal win extending their longest winning streak since the 1980s. stadium. the red-hot 49ers make it 12 a row, beat the that's cowboys. now they're headed to their second nfc championship in a row. an energetic crowd at levi's stadium to beat the cowboys. defense dominated early. tied at 6-6 second quarter, jimmy ward tips it right into the arms of fred warner for the 49ers' second interception of the half. robbie gould coming through in the clutch, a 50-yard field goal as time expired. 9-6. tied at 9-9 late in the third. kittle bobbles it not once but twice and hauls in a 31-yard reception from brock purdy. that sparked the team and the crowd. it also led to the niners' only touchdown of the game. a fourth quarter two-yard run by christian mccaffrey. the defense played lights out. the 49ers beat the cowboys, 19-12.

they advance to play philly in the nfc championship. >> i had a feeling it was going to be like that. i have a lot of respect for that team. i think we made them work for everything. you take away the run game and don't have to be too risky in coverages. our guys kept doing it all game and were able to contain them and keep them out of the end zone except for that drive. >> pretty cool to see the clock at zero and the niners over the cowboys, so proud of the team. playoff football is not easy. to go and pull off a win like that against a great team like glass and now the nfc championship, that means a lot to us. it feels good to win this one. we have more life. the prep for next week starts now. >> reporter: the 49ers pack their bags for the city of brotherly love taking on the eagles next sunday at noon. at levi's stadium, anthony flores for "today in the bay." >> if you weren't there, trust us, the niners sent some fans home very happy.

excuse all those people who will be a little bleary-eyed this morning at work. those celebrations went late into the night at levi's stadium with the parking lot buzzing with excitement. there was an impromptu fireworks show. the win has many fans believing the niners can go all the way. >> i'm a niners fan faithful forever. we're going to the bowl and coming home with a ring, baby. >> don't want to jinx anything, the niners and cowboys have faced off eight times in the playoffs before and of those, five times the winner of that game went on to win the super bowl. >> i can't wait. >> i love all the stats that come out of the woodwork. twitter boss elon musk agrees with you, twitter has too many ads. coming up on "today in the bay," the new option coming to twitter that will take all those

fourth quarter gdp and earnings ramp up with nearly 40% of the dow reporting. spotify is reportedly planning layoffs as soon as this week adding to the recent job cuts across the tech industry. the streaming service slowed hiring last year and made small cuts in its podcast unit back in october. spotify ceo told employees the company would reduce hiring by 25%. spotify has spent massively on content and podcasts in recent years which have yet to deliver profits. elon musk says twitter will roll out a new higher priced blue subscription with no ads. the current subscription promises 50% fewer ads for verified users but this feature hasn't been launched yet. musk says twitter is working to decrease the frequency and size of ads on the platform and that could be an answer to disappointing subscriber numbers for blue and a 40% drop in

4:48 for you right now. welcome back. you're watching "today in the bay." okay, one more win and brock purdy could be the first rookie quarterback to play in the super bowl, but an artist from portugal is still keeping tabs on the niners' former franchise quarterback. we first introduced you to rita last year. for the last 354 days she created a different rendering of jimmy g. so this started when there were rumors he may be traded. we all know that didn't happen. she kept the series going and spends an hour or two each day, the simple and more complex ones could take more time, about up to six hours. rita and her boyfriend live in

of the week. a live look at the golden gate bridge right now, still watching out for the king tides that are going to be coming up today. coastal flood advisory, some of those low-lying areas flooding over the weekend. we will see that again this morning. it happens at 12:01 p.m. and coming up lower than yesterday at 6.78 feet, so just watching out for that. as far as temperatures, we're looking good, we're in the upper 50s today. low 60s for the north bay with dublin heading for 57. we'll see 57 in los gatos and 62 in napa. tomorrow morning we begin with some even colder temperatures than what we're seeing right now when the winds calm down. we'll drop down into the mid-30s for many spots inland and upper 30s for much of the north bay. so this is a look at the overall weather pattern, fairly quiet, high pressure keeping it dry and the storm track staying well to the north. as we go into the next few days that high pressure slowly starts to move away, and that will allow for a low to dip in for

the weekend. look at that. by sunday we could see rain and more sierra snow moving into the bay area. a big change in our weather pattern will bring in wetter weather for early next week and possibly reopen the storm door once again. we'll be watching that. as of now it looks like the rain is pretty light for most of us. three-quarters of an inch of rain between sunday and tuesday. but we're all dry throughout the week. we have several more days to allow all of that local -- the recent rainfall that we had to really soak in to the ground, and we see our temperatures warming up, but it will be cool once again. mike, you're hearing a crash near the caldecott tunnel. near the caldecott but not in, it's eastbound. it's outside of bore number two as you head eastbound. so against the main commute, which hasn't yet kicked in and, again, outside the tunnel. no major injuries but there is a

funded. a state bill was shot down that would allow the city to open the site. now mayor london breed and supervisor ronan a looking to moving forward with private funds and will introduce legislation to repel the law that does not allow for the privately run sites. if approved it would allow nonprofits to open and supervise with private funds before federal and state legal issues are resolved. in just a few hours a competency hearing for a man accused in a gruesome killing on the peninsula. they say he used a samurai sword to kill the mother of his young daughter. it happened in front of shocked bystanders. shortly after officers arrested that suspect. in a preliminary hearing at the time his defense attorney requested a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is fit enough to stand trial. economists are trying to find some answers to america's
