we want to say thank you for watching us. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia has the day off this will be, no doubt, a difficult day to bring you the news, but we are doing our best to update you on three unspeakable tragedies now involving firearms. >> we want to begin with the city of half moon bay rocked by that rampage. >> that shooting unfolded at two locations yesterday afternoon. what we know this hour is seven people are confirmed dead, another victim clinging to life in critical condition, and that suspected gunman is now in police custody. he is said to be cooperating after driving to a police substation where he may have planned to surrender. the victims are all tied to a local mushroom farm in half moon bay. some were shot at a location where they work and where they live. the second location, a nearby nursery. >> the first calls came in around 2:20 p.m. deputies arrived at the first crime scene along highway 92 to find five victims. one of them still alive.
4:32 am
three more bodies were found at a second location, a nursery three miles away off highway 1. then around 4:40 p.m., authorities managed to detain the suspected gunman. >> that man was found parked in his car at the sheriff's substation on kelly avenue. cameras then captured that dramatic moment when authorities took the suspect down. he is identified as 67-year-old chunli zhou. he is now in custody. joining us now is half moon bay mayor, deborah penrose. that you for joining us. i'm sorry it's under these circumstances, but we understand you've been away. we wanted to know how you found out. >> i got texted by our city manager very quickly after the incident occurred. >> how is your team responding, and when are you planning to head back to half moon bay? >> i'll be heading back in the morning, but our team has just been right on it.
