we'll check in with mike in just a moment. saying good morning to him. first good morning to kari. she has a look at our forecast. we are starting out all clear across the bay area and chilly temperatures. as we take a live look outside in san rafael another dry start for us. we're in the upper 30s right now. temperatures hold steady for the next several hours, and then we'll see it slowly warming up with a lot more sunshine for today. nice to enjoy the sunshine but today is going to bring those temperatures up a few degrees. look at santa rosa today headed for 68 degrees. we'll see low to mid-60s across the inland parts of the bay area and along the coast some low 60s today. staying pretty mild and we'll see that continue. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minimum. mike, you were checking on a crash near treasure island. chp said all lanes are clear. at one point the last hour we had three lanes blocked inside the tunnel, but it has cleared up. traffic flows smoothly.

there is a little bit of slowing that showed up for a few more minutes but it's all clear there. a disabled vehicle on west 24 as you approach the off ramp down into san leandro. it may be a little distraction. an off ramp here eastbound 237, activity there might have the off ramp partially blocked. it is still open. back over to you. >> mike, thank you. we're learning more troubling details about the massacre that unfolded in san mateo county. the sheriff says all signs point to a work place grudge that turned violent. investigators say that suspect, 66-year-old chunli zhao knew those victims and worked at both farms before the shooting. >> sources tell our investigative unit zhao accused the victims of picking on him for years. our sources also told us zhao

gunned down two co-workers near a greenhouse at the first farm off highway 92 before going to the trailer and killing a co-worker's wife and shooting two more co-workers including the lone survivor. the deaths are starting to sink in for the friends of victims. they are sharing the horrifying moments they witnessed when their co-workers were gunned down. >> they are also sharing their own interactions with the accused gunman. here is "today in the bay's" stephanie magallon with more. >> reporter: several of the farmworkers tell me at least two of the victims had children and a wife in mexico. they referred to them as jose and pedro. they tell me they're afraid and concerned because they don't know what's next for them. miguel recounts the moment he says his 66-year-old co-worker opened fire for the first time. miguel heard six gunshots. he turned around and says he saw the suspect work to the other end of the ranch and called 911 as two men suffered from gunshot

wounds just inches away from him. i turned one of the victims on to his side to help him breathe, says miguel, but he passed away within minutes. he described it as a moment of terror not knowing who would be the next target. he and other farmworkers who lived and worked at the crime scene say chunli zhao was friendly towards them. "he never offended any of them." these farmworkers only spoke fannish and he didn't speak much english. miguel says there were several occasions they would hear zhao and others within his group arguing, but he never thought anything like this could ever happen. dozens of children and their parents now in hotel rooms as authorities investigate the latest mass shooting and a commune coming together with meals, supplies and mental health support. >> we have toys, books, clothes,

blankets, we're bringing the donations to the families. >> reporter: an army of volunteers to help those feeling the loss. stephanie magallon for "today in the bay." >> the community is coming together for a memorial service and vigils as well to remember the victims. as "today in the bay's" terry mcsweeney reports ministers of many faiths delivered a message of healing and change last night. ♪♪ >> reporter: a call to god for comfort from a community rocked by mass shootings. >> how long must i bear pain in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all day long? >> reporter: at this interfaith prayer and lament a call for healing for all of those affected including the shooter himself. >> the perpetrator, that he may know some rest from his inner turmoil and come to know the

ways of peace and compassion. >> reporter: a bell rang out for each of the seven who died and for all victims of gun violence. there was a specific call for action. >> our biggest problem right now is gun violence. and while there are many other issues, that's one that really deserves our attention and requires our voices to speak up, to put pressure on elected officials. >> reporter: over on main street business owners know the people impacted emotionally and financially by the tragedy. >> we actually have farmworkers that work on the farm, and their second job is here washing dishes or doing something. my heart goes out to all the families. >> nothing like normal regular half moon bay. today is different that we done see regular customers.

>> reporter: a shock to a community who has been asked to do more than pray for change. terry mcsweeney, "today in the bay." >> the nonprofit caravan is holding a drive. they'll be at the san jose women's club today from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. they're also looking for volunteers and have set up a gofundme page for victims. also, we have a special page set up on our website if you want to help. nbcbayarea.com/supporthmb for more. this morning we have more details about a monday night shooting in oakland that happened at a gas station on macarthur boulevard at seminary avenue. police say about 50 people were gathered during the filming of a music video and that's when the shooting started. five people shot, one victim died. the victim killed was 18 years old. three others were injured in a car crash as they were driving away from the scene as shots were fired. investigators believe this is linked to gang violence.

so far no arrests have been made. and new overnight after a marathon meeting, san jose councilmembers have now filled one of two vacant seats. councilmembers last night voted to appoint domingo candelas. they selected him by way of multiple ranked choice votes. still to be filled is the seat formerly occupied by new mayor matt mahan which is expected to happen tomorrow. 4:38. facing a new lawsuit. still ahead on "today in the bay," the all new accusations made against google this morning. plus, a boost for workers. a company raising its minimum wage to keep employees. st with us. ayyo

good wednesday morning. 4:41 and 41 degrees in san jose. we'll see those temperatures dropping another couple of degrees around sun rise and then a nice clear day as our temperatures slowly warm up. we'll still need the heavier coats and we have a nice warm-up and eventually some rain. we'll talk about that in the forecast. you're looking at 92 but driving 65. at the limit across the water. no problems across the bay for san mateo or dumbarton bridges. all the bridges showing up with a smooth drive. let's check the numbers we have

with silvana. thank you, mike. good morning. i'm silvana henao from cnbc. wall street is set to open lower after a mixed session yesterday with the dow extending its winning streak to three straight days on the back of mostly positive earnings reports. the s&p 500 and nasdaq, though, fell for the first time in three days and tech could be under pressure today after microsoft reported better than expected earnings last night. but expect weaker results this year. in focus today more earnings from the likes of at&t, boeing, ibm and tesla. walmart is raising average hourly wages as it tries to attract and keep employees in a tight labor market. average hourly pay will go up from $17 to $17.50. the minimum wage will rise by as much as $2 to $14 to $19 an hour depending on location. 340,000 workers at roughly 3,000 stores are eligible.

the pay hikes rival amazon, costco and target. walmart is the nation's largest private player with 1.6 million workers. and lyft is cracking down on late riders, charging extra if you make a driver wait more than two minutes after they arrive or five minutes for xl rides. lyft doesn't specify how many per minute. they vary by location. if a driver reaches your location ahead of time the wait fees won't kick in until two minutes after your scheduled pickup. uber has had a similar policy since 2016. i know i run out. i'm keeping track of where my car is and i run out. >> my husband says, can we finish our drink first? well -- >> i had a driver park down the

a very good wednesday morning to you. taking a live look outside overlooking downtown san jose. we've had a nice string of clear days to enjoy and get out there. i guess that's continuing. it does continue and it gets warmer the next couple of days so it looks really good in the near term forecast. eventually we'll throw in rain as we look outside in dublin starting out with a clear morning and, yeah, you do need to turn on the heater again. it is 37 there. 36 in concord. some spots in the mid to upper 30s you may have frost on the windshield as you head out. it is warmer for san francisco. we're starting out about 48 right now and it's 45 degrees in santa rosa. 66 in east san jose.

these numbers are a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday afternoon. 62 in pleasanton and martinez. oakland headed for 64. also low 60s for much of the peninsula. 62 in daly city. san francisco reaching 64. the mission district up to 68. so we're still seeing sunshine and all of the clouds and storms staying well to the west of us, but we'll see a change in the pattern. high pressure is moving away. lows dropping down and they will drag down very cold air. we're going to see a big changeover from rain to snow for the sierra. as we go into sunday as well as monday. and then it looks dry on tuesday but there may be another storm system that could be moving in for the end of next week. it does look like the storm door is opening once again but these are not big atmospheric rivers.

these are cold fronts coming in and they do pack a lot less rainfall. so we're going to see rain for the most part about a quarter inch of rain, maybe up to half of an inch of rain. look at how much colder for palo alto. we're going from temperatures if the mid-60s to upper 40s on monday. and then only some 50s for next week. so, yes, it will be very chilly. fairfield will see a big drop in temperatures, so we he can peck that for a lot of our inland areas. and, mike, you're starting with a car into the water? yes, it sounds dramatic. it's in the south bay, eastbound 237 right around the first street off ramp. no injuries reported. the car went off the roadway and there's fencing but there's also some run-off area. i think that's where the water is. it's a pond, not anything bigger than that, and it sounds like everybody is okay. we'll track that because there is a concern.

over here 680 has the overnight closure northbound through sunol and that will continue until 5:00 a.m. and we'll watch that to make sure everything clears on time. 84 taking some of the early commute and the redirected traffic. and then over in oakland we do have southbound 880 right around marina. it does sound like one lane may be blocked after the earlier crash. southbound heading out of san leandro and in toward hayward. some slowing shows up for highway 13. we'll check on that to see what's going on. back to you. thank you, mike. still no word whether or not a key member of the 49ers will suit up for sunday's nfc championship game. this is after being charged with domestic violence. san jose police yesterday announcing the arrest of defensive lineman on monday afternoon. they say they responded to an incident at his row home involving his girlfriendship she declined medical attention and showed no visible injuries but

did obtain a restraining order. he is now out on bail. a seemingly random assault targeting an elderly man walking with a cane. a warning you may find this video hard to watch. a man in the black hooded sweatshirt is seen crossing this alley and shoving a 78-year-old man to the sidewalk. it happened january 8 at about 7:30 in the morning. the victim did spend time in the hospital. san francisco state senator scott wiener says the city has to get tough on this kind of crime. >> we have seen assaults like this on the streets of san francisco particularly directed towards our seniors. and it is disgusting. we need to have a zero tolerance policy that if you act like this, if you harm someone like this, you are going to get arrested.
