getting through. here you can see the damage caused by previous russian strikes and the sirens wailing in this city all morning as civilians brace for the worst. this morning, vladimir putin sending a message with the wave of strikes across ukraine. dozens of russian missiles and self destructing drones targeting kyiv and other cities. the attack hours after president biden reversed course and announced he will give 31 abrams tanks to ukraine. >> will enhance ukraine's capacity to defend the territory. the tanks are the most capable thanks in the world. >> reporter: the kremlin says these tanks will burn down just like all the other ones. weighing in at 70 tons and a 120-millimeter cannon, the abrams has long been the iron fist of the military. it is difficult to maintain and

concord, new hampshire hi, gabe good morning >> reporter: good morning, savannah more snow overnight after the winter storm here this week. that snow has turned into rain in the last few hours. as you mentioned, parts of the northeast dealing with the messy morning commute. overnight, powerful wind and rain slammed into new jersey knocking down trees. some 8 million people in new england are under winter weather alerts a travel mess across much of the country yesterday. a tractor-trailer in detroit lost control and crashed on the interstate down south, there was major flooding in alabama with tens of thousands of people in arkansas still without power. the damage is still being assessed after the national weather service confirmed an ef-3 tornado slammed into just outside the houston area packing winds of up to 140 miles an hour there have been at least 158 tornado reports this month alone

superintendent for virginia's newport news district lost his job. less tha three weeks after a teacher was shot by one of the students. >> effective february 1st, 2023, dr. parker will be relieved of his duties as superintendent of new port news public schools. >> reporter: this follows the resignation of the assistant principal. an attorney for abigail zwerner, the teacher who was shot will file a lawsuit the school ignored multiple warnings that the 6-year-old had a gun. >> what did administrators do? did administrators call the police no did administrators lock down the school no did the administrators evacuate the building no did they confront the student? no >> reporter: her attorney laying out a timeline of the day. after 11:00 a.m., zwerner herself told an administrator the first grader threatened to beat up another student. >> the school administration

failed to act. >> reporter: at 12:30, another teacher reported she searched the boy's book bag looking for a gun. and believed he may have put it in his pocket and taken it outside to recess. >> the administrator downplayed the report from the teacher and poerpt of a gun saying, and i quote, he has little pockets >> reporter: shortly after 1:00, the teacher reported a student said the 6-year-old showed him the gun and threatened to use it finally, a fourth employee was asked to search the boy, but told to wait for the day to end. zwerner was shot about an hour later. seriously wounded in her hand and chest, but managed to escort 20 students to safety out of the class. earlier this month, the school superintendent acknowledged one administrator was notified of a possible weapon. a source close to the investigation tells nbc news before she was shot, she texted a loved one that day and quote showed frustration over the

department of transportation investigation looking into whether southwest engaged in what the d.o.t. says might have been unrealistic scheduling of flights. promising it was scheduling flights it could no fly. southwest blames the december meltdown on the computer system which went down. that forced the airline to go manual and the delays and cancellations snowballed other airlines had no problems southwest says it had already taken steps to assure there is no repeat of the december debacle. here's what it's done. it hired a consulting firm to do a third-party review and report back with concrete steps it is working to improve the scheduling software that failed. it created an operations review committee and handed out rewards points to 2 million passengers affected, about a $300 value per person

kaylee hartung is here with more good morning >> he is recovering from more than 30 broken bones and the snow cat crushed him now an incident report released by the sheriff reveals tha renner jumped into action to save a family member >> reporter: the details of the accident that nearly killed renner near his remote lake tahoe home. in the report, investigators say the actor was trying to stop the massive pistol bully snowplow from hitting his nephew when rener was completely crushed audio of the 911 call captures the moments after the accident. >> someone has been run over by a snow cat hurry. >> reporter: the star used his seven-ton snow cat to tow a truck operated by his adult nephew out of the snow after he disconnected the tow chain, the plow began sliding causing renner to exit without

setting the brake. renner said he realized it began to roll downhill and toward his nephew he decided to attempt to stop or divert the giant machine he jumped on the moving track to get back inside the cab. but was immediately pulled under the left side. >> the ribs look crushed and head wound >> reporter: the report said renner was found 50 feet uphill from the snow cat which rolled into the pickup truck and caused extensive damage renner's family rendered aid while awaiting for help. >> there's a lot of blood. you have to get somebody here immediately. >> reporter: he was air lifted to the nevada hospital where he stayed more than two weeks. he went through two surgeries. just last week, renner revealed on social media he broke more than 30 bones. the movie star who does his own stunts is no stranger to injury. as he told howard stern in 2017.
