doing after being attacked by a mountain lion. we made it to thursday. want to say good morning to you. i am marcus washington. >> i am laura garcia. just got to make it through now. all right. thanks for starting your die with us. it's another cold morning. let's get you a live look outside in san francisco where we are still all clear as you get ready to get up and out the door. take a look at where we are right now, and it dipped below freezing again in santa rosa. you do need layers, but take a look at where we are headed this afternoon. reaching into the upper 60s for parts of the south bay. won't be as warm for the north bay, but we will see this as the warmest day we will have in quite a while.

we will talk about rain coming up in a few minutes. mike, you are looking at flares lit up in oakland? >> yeah, there's a crash. no major injuries reported but i have seen over the last few minutes in the bushes alongside north 88, flashlights, so people are looking for something. there may have been a crash and folks may have left the scene. there was slowing. it cleared up after the initial arrival and the placement of the flares, so we are looking at a smooth drive but a restricted north 880. light volume of traffic all around the bay. there's a new crash in san josé, and i'll check that out. and then a late night fire on few blocks south of oregon

field. four businesses are damaged. firefighters are still looking into the cause. our emma gosk is there this morning. we will have an update. the hunt is still on for a mountain lion that attacked a 5-year-old boy. >> it was a terrifying encounter between one of the cats and jack. >> jack ran a little bit ahead of the adults and must have, you know, possibly surprised the mountain lion. >> amy wagner says his nephew was with his grandparents and mother who charged at the mountain lion to save his life. >> she was able to scare it as

young lion, jack is staying strong and fighting for a full recovery. >> jack is a little fighter. that mountain lion picked the wrong kid to mess with. now to new developments, pg&e will go to trial for its role in the deadly fire. the judge says there's enough evidence. that fire killed four people and burned more than 50,000 acres in shasta counties in september of 2020. investigators blamed that failure on pg&e's failure to maintain a tree that was leaning towards power lines. this is a new movement to remove open air drug markets in san francisco. >> there was a meeting last night outlining what advocates

good thursday morning. it's 4:41. let's take you to the tri-valley with a live look outside in dublin. it's already a busy start. but it's also cold. our temperature right now just 2 degrees above freezing and will hold steady there for the next few hours. we will see more clouds coming in and eventually rain, and we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. easy drive 880 through fremont. a crash around 101. we are giving you detail on what is called a traffic alert up in oakland for flares up by the coliseum. we will talk about oakland, too, but first let's check in with silvana. >> wall street is set to open higher after a positive session yesterday. the dow erasing more than a 500-point loss to eke out a small gain. the nasdaq ending up about 2%.

the moves coming as the federal reserve hikes interest rates by a quarter point, and inflation is cooling enough for the fed to take notice and pause it's rate campaign soon, though the fed has not given any indication a pause is coming. in focus today, data on jobless claims and factory orders. meta, as revenue growth slowed for three quarters, and then fallout from apple's privacy changes, meta has focused on being more active and cutting projects not performing. the company says it sold 7.1

to you. what a nice live look outside the golden gate bridge this morning. look at the bottom there. tracking your forecast that includes a little rain. kari is tracking this. >> by tomorrow morning we could see rain in parts of the north bay, and most of the bay seeing it later in the morning. it's still cold and still clear. a look at santa rosa right now.

it's 30 degrees. we are below freezing there. we are also going to have another chilly start, you see more clouds moving in today. temperatures headed to the upper 50s in parts of the north bay. if you look up this morning before you head to work, you might see a rare sight in the sky. today is the closest approach of the green comet, and we have not seen this particular one since the stone age. by tomorrow morning all of these clouds will be in, and we can see them off the coast right now. we are seeing the rain approaching first in the north bay. look at the timeline. this is at about 3:00 in the morning. it's moving into lake and north sonoma county and then spreading across the rest of the bay area by 6:00 to 7:00. it starts out with a wave of heavy rain and then gets lighter and more scattered throughout

the day. by the afternoon, some of us are getting a break. there still could be lingering spotty showers. this first round of rain, not really heavy bringing us a quarter to half inch of rain. more rain in the forecast for the end of the weekend. sunday we could see up to an inch of rain and even higher amounts further to the north. for much of the bay area, about half to three quarters of an inch of rain. also a good amount of more sierra snow. another 15 inches of snow, so that's going to be great to see that coming down after we talk about our historic snowpack. we will have a update on that. we will see temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. scattered showers on friday and then more widespread rain on sunday. mike, now you have a traffic alert on the grid? >> i do. chp has it on the grid, and it's
