>> there are cameras, so we have video showing the movement of the car after it left the tunnel and went up the hill and turned off the road and turned to go down the cliff. >> reporter: the judge issued a no harassment order to limit contact with his family, especially his wife. attempted murder cases are hard to prosecute and in this situation legal analysts believes the prosecution only has circumstantial evidence. if patel is convicted he faces life in prison. >> like i said, it will be so interesting to follow this one. thanks for the latest, bob. word this morning of americans killed in the powerful earthquake in turkey and syria, this as the number of confirmed deaths moves past 17,000.

>> i had no idea that they had marathons in antarctica or the north pole. huh-uh. >> this meteorologist is not taking a chance. >> you want to go? >> no. all right. we are talking about how cool it has been, but it's also been dry. we just got an update on the drought monitor this morning. all the heavy rain we had through the first of the year has really improved the drought status significantly. we have not seen a change this morning. we are going to continue to see improvements in the drought and also even as we go into the next few weeks if we don't get anymore rain, most likely this won't change. we are abnormally dry with the yellow that we are seeing there along the central coast into santa cruz as well as around the tahoe region, but for us here in the bay area, still a moderate drought. our temperatures today warming up and headed for the upper 60s. santa rosa reaching 68 degrees. you will see a high of 68 in

fremont and mountain view. look at morgan hill and san martin, the warmer spots today reaching into the 70s. unfortunately it doesn't last because we are going to see a significant cooldown for the weekend. tomorrow a lot of us will stay in the 50s from the peninsula over towards the east bay and parts of the north bay. as we take it hour by hour, here's the reason why we will be cooling off. scattered showers in the forecast late tomorrow evening. it's going to be very hit or miss. i think only parts of the north bay will see the highest chance of rain, but much of that falls apart before it makes it into the rest of the bay area. still lingering showers across the region between friday evening and saturday morning. we may see some spots able to measure a little bit of rain before it moves out on saturday afternoon. the rest of the weekend is dry. moving ahead, we see that system quickly passing. there's not a whole lot coming into the forecast, even through next week. much of the storm systems that
6:22 am
do approach dissipate and the rain doesn't make it to the bay area so that's where we are expecting to continue. it's going to be cold. there's no significant warm-up here. gilroy today reaching the low 70s. a big cooldown for the weekend. on sunday, a nice little rebound but we are still looking at cool weather all throughout next week and into the weekend. our inland temperatures kind of going up and down, a little bit of a roller coaster here. today will be the warmest day we will see in quite a while. mike, you are tracking a new crash in concord? >> yeah, west highway 4 at an on-ramp, somewhere near san marcos off highway 4 and that's why it's not causing more slowing. we have the build with more traffic coming down 242. more traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights turned on at the normal time. the rest of the bay, a pretty

dry conditions for the central coast up to santa cruz as well as the tahoe region. once again, significant improvements there. it's a hazy sunrise this morning. this will be not only the warmest day of the week but also the day with the worst air quality, unfortunately. we talked about the high pressure yesterday, and it pushes the pollutants and particulate matter back down to the surface. across the bay area air quality will be moderate. we will have something tomorrow that will sweep everything clean once again and maybe even bring in a slight chance of rain. there's a cold front that will be approaching. as it comes in we see clouds and even spotty showers by about 6:00 tomorrow evening, and it's going to be so hit or miss that not all of the bay area will see those rain chances. there will be a slight chance between late friday night and early on saturday, but the north bay seeing the highest chance of the rain before we all dry out
