i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. before we get a check of the forecast, a live look at state farm stadium in glendale, arizona, the site of the super bowl. it's all happening this sunday. we're going to show you what fans can expect as everybody gears up for the big game. first, let's talk about the forecast. the weekend forecast, can we have some outside watch parties? >> i think so. it's going to be cool for the first part of the weekend, but warming up by sunday. we have to go to work first. we take a live look outside in dublin and we are feeling temperatures in the upper 30s. it is a cold start, but as we go into the afternoon, a nice warm-up. but it won't be as warm as yesterday, in some spots the temperatures will be at least 5 to 7 degrees cooler, so some parts of the east bay, as well as the north bay, only reach into the upper 50s. we'll talk about that slight warm-up for sunday coming up. mike, you've been watching the roads and so far it seems pretty smooth. >> it is pretty smooth. there was one issue over here in

the tri-valley, getting away from 680, around ruby hill, we still see slowing. chp says the big rig has cleared. we should see speeds recover just a tad bit. we still have road work, paving work, and this morning it will clear about 5:00, but then it will be back in place tonight and be there all weekend as you travel through this area. the rest of the area, alameda county, contra costa county moving great, little blips typical through the area, just as 24 approaches 13. crews typically in the area but no closures and we're looking at a smooth drive through the south bay, peninsula. throughout the north bay, you see some changes. i'll check that out and bring you the latest coming up. new developments about the owner of a popular oakland bakery. jen angel has passed away. she was on life support after being violently robbed on monday

in the parking lot of a wells fargo bank. she tried chasing after the thieves but was dragged alongside their car for 50 feet or more. she was the owner of angel cakes bakery. the bakery will remain open t. family asks anyone who wants to support the small business to buy gift certificates and continue going there. loved ones say she was a social justice activist and community leader. they want police to search for the suspects responsible. they added if the oakland police department does make an arrest in this case, the family is committed to pursuing all available alternatives, such as restorative justice. all of angel's organs will be donated. the half moon bay farmworker accused of killing seven coworkers will be in court. he is scheduled to appear in a redwood city courtroom this morning. this is video from his last court appearance as he was trying to hide his face. prosecutors say zhao went on a shooting rampage after a

workplace dispute. there's a lot of concern in pleasanton after a beating was caught on camera. >> the fight was between two middle school students while other students recorded and cheered on. "today in the bay's" stephanie magallon reports the parents are commanding action and transparency. >> reporter: a violent beating and a crowd of cheering students near pleasanton middle school. parents say the viral video is just one example of why their children are afraid to go to school. >> my daughter, she cries. >> reporter: sarah campbell says her daughter is just months away from entering pleasanton middle school and she's terrified. her eldest children made it through but they never used the restrooms on campus and believe the violence is intensifying. >> the parents just kind of dove into their childrens' social media, if school officials dove into social media, they'll see instagram accounts of the

bathrooms and the conditions of them, they can see fights. >> reporter: she and others made themselves loud during the unified school district meeting demanding action. the district's superintendent acknowledged their concerns. >> i don't intend to go into further detail tonight, please know that the district team is working with the site administration to address your concerns and to ensure a safe, inclusive and academically rich environment that is accessible for all of our students every day. >> reporter: the fight took place right outside of this public library, which is off campus. however, school administrators did say it's their responsibility to make sure that students are walking to and from school safely, which is why they've decided to increase the number of supervisors walking around campus and at destinations around the school, like the library. >> admins are also visiting each class, every day this week, to talk to students about safe and responsible behavior, as well as

consequences. >> reporter: the district confirmed they held two community meetings with parents right after the incident and will be having a joint meeting with city council where they will determine if it's possible to increase the number of school resource officers. stephanie magallon for "today in the bay." 4:36 right now. the latest on the devastating earthquake in turkey and syria. aftershocks, another one hitting turkey overnight. a magnitude 4.6. help from california is now on the ground. the governor's office tweeted these pictures of search and rescue teams. miraculously, rescues are not over. four days after the devastating quakes, crews pulling this young girl to safety. while stories of these rescues briefly lift spirits, the grim reality of hardship facing tens of thousands of people who survived, casts a dark reality. 21,000 people were killed in the

earthquakes. we want to give you a live look at turkey where thousands of people are scrambling for aid. many are indeed in need of food, clothing and other supplies. now, back here in the bay area, university students at cal, they're now coming together to help those in turkey. the turkish student association as uc berkeley has been collecting resources and handing out flyers for donations every day on campus. the group teamed up with turkish airlines to ship warm blankets, clothing and other necessities as temperatures there in turkey continue to drop. >> we are packing it in bags to make them rain-proof and cold-proof and then we're sending them with a plane there and an ngo is meeting them and sending it to the region. >> and if you would like to help, we've made it easy for you to find ways of how you can contribute. we posted a link with information on charities raising money and sending supplies overseas. head to nbcbayarea.com and click on the link in our trending bar. in san francisco, several

people waking up without a home following a deadly explosion. we first brought you this as breaking news yesterday morning. a blast went off at about 9:20 and shortly after the explosion, we saw a home catch on fire. it happened on 22nd street and maraga in the sunset district. multiple agencies were on scene, including federal partners that brought in dogs to help locate a person who died. neighbors described the scene as chaotic. >> i heard the explosion and i thought there was a bomb. so then my window shattered. >> this morning five homes remain evacuated. other people who live nearby were able to return, as long as no cars came in and out. they also had to shelter in place. looming billion dollar revenue loss. ahead on "today in the bay," the sneaker company facing profit warnings and the measures it might soon have to take. >> plus, a plant-based option.

showers in parts of the bay area. we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. looks like a nice, easy drive across highway 92. no problems on either side of the san mateo bridge. let's check out how the business world is starting out this friday. let's check in with pippa. good morning. i'm pippa stevens from cnbc. wall street is set for a lower open after stocks fell yesterday. the dow jones was down 50 points while the s&p 500 and nasdaq lost about 1%. all three are in track to end the week in the red with the nasdaq leading the losses down almost 2%. in focus, comments from two top federal reserve officials and data on consumer sentiment. meanwhile, adidas warns it could lose more than $1 billion in revenue this year if it can't sell its remaining stock of yeezy shoes. they decided to ditch the highly

profitable yeezy brand that had been operating with kanye west. in the worst case scenario, adidas says it will have to write off all the remaining inventory. chick-fil-a is testing it's first plant-based entree, a breaded caller sandwich, it will be available in colorado, south carolina and north carolina. it has seasoned breading, two pickle slices and a bun. the cauliflower is marinaded in a buffalo sauce. it's not fully vegan because the breading contains milk and eggs. chick-fil-a will determine whether to roll it out nationwide based on customer feedback. seems like i would have to take a trip to one of those markets. >> we will meet you in denver, pippa. >> i'm down for this. >> perfect. to your health. >> thanks. 4:43 this morning, and beer

so ready to grab the cold one? sf beer week starts today. not right now. >> the event is way more than just a san francisco thing. for the next ten days from beer festivals to tap takeovers, enthusiasts will be celebrating craft beer. bay area bars and restaurants will celebrate hundreds of events. it gives enthusiasts a chance to soak it in in all sorts of ways. >> these events are all about food pairings, collaborations, about vertical tastings, special releases like barrel aged beers and sour beers. it's so much more than just a pint night. it's really about the community of beer, the craftsmanship of beer and people coming together to enjoy beer, especially in settings with food. >> it's come so far. you can head to sfbeerweek.org for event and ticketing information. remember when it was a silver bullet?

>> just coincidently, beer week is super bowl weekend. >> definitely goes hand in hand. >> when in rome. we have slight rain chances. we'll have to work between now and tomorrow, but we're starting out cool and clear. we're just 1 degree above freezing right now in santa rosa and it's 47 in san rafael, 37 in dublin. you can see these temperatures are still kind of all over the place to start out this morning. but we won't see a significant warm-up. yesterday it was so nice, in the upper 60s, a few spots hit 70 degrees. we're going to be in some spots about 10 degrees cooler, especially for the south bay. and then look at the north bay, only reaching 59 in napa, as well as santa rosa and 59 in hayward, and even cooler tomorrow, behind a cold front that's making its way into the state. we're seeing a long line of

clouds and this is with that system that's going to bring in a light chance of rain. the north bay will have the highest chance of rain and it's going to be starting out light, moving through fairly quickly. some of that fizzling as it moves out of the north bay into san francisco. just keep the umbrella handy, because here we are at 6:00 tomorrow morning and there may be some brief downpours hitting the roof before you head out for your saturday. but then it looks like it clears out for saturday afternoon. so how much rain could we see? a few hundredths of an inch of rain. this is looking more beefy than what some of the previous computer models showed. so maybe one-tenth of an inch for half moon bay, but lighter amounts elsewhere. once that passes, sunday is clear, it's starting to warm up. there will be more cold temperatures dipping in with spotty rain early next week. but overall, we see a series of storm systems that seem to evade

the bay area for the most part. but it's also reinforcing the cold air. and next week it's definitely going to feel like winter is hanging on. highs in livermore only in the low to mid-50s and we'll see the chilly weather continue through much of next week, with only slight rain chances. mike, you were looking at the camera in fremont. >> we were looking for any incidents going on northbound 880, right around dakota, so past auto mall park, there was reports of a disabled rig there. it looks like everything cleared up from the chp report, but we still had stragglers. it looks like they've just cleared up approaching the dumbarton bridge crossover. a smooth drive through the rest of the east bay. we still have the slower drive for the pavement work going on northbound 680 through sunol. the crew is still there and you'll have to take the alternate for a few more minutes. coming into the area, highway 4,

no delays. walnut creek, 680, 24, toward the maze, a smooth flow of traffic, as well as the south bay. south county at speed. back to you. an unusual hunger strike is drawing a lot of attention in the south bay. a home developer stopped eating one week ago. the reason why is he says the city of sunnyvale is halting his work on a construction project involving the building of 18 town homes on fair oak avenue. the city says his company forgot to get county approval on using a particular plastic designed to limit health risks and will not allow the work to go on until the approval has happened. he believes that the red tape is getting in the way of honest work. >> it's extremely frustrating, painful, downright devastating, and, yeah, so i had no choice after my team is trying to work with the sunnyvale county, it
